Alternatives to Tampons and Pads

I've been using both for some time now, and while pads are the easiest to wear, I find tampons more flexible, especially when I don't want my period to show.
However, wearing a tampon gives me fears of Toxic Shock Syndrome and a pad can be rather uncomfortable. So, I'm asking everyone; are there alternatives to Tampons and Pads? Preferably reusable ones. I've heard of some washables and one called the Mooncup. Can someone point me in the direction of reliable medical advice regarding these alternatives?
For those who aren't so inclined: why pads or tampons?

I am really not sure of the name right now. But in my country, in Cape Town there is a company by the name of Organics Onliine and they sell them. Go to their website, www.organicsonline.co.za and there you will find the name of them and then maybe you can do a search and see if they are sold in your country as well. I believe that this is the best way to go as everything is organic and they are not bleached and things like that that could cause damage and harm to a woman's body. Good Luck... let me know if you come right.

I am not aware if there is still anything aside from those two that can be used for menstrual period. As for me, I have never used a tampon and will not use one in the near future I guess.
I have been using pads eversince, and though sometimes they can be uncomfortable, I have never stumbled upon a time when I gave up on using it and wanted to switch to tampons. So as of the moment, and for time to come, I'll be using pads still.
