The Luxury Of A Lie In

How often do you get the luxury of being able to lie in to whenever you want, without having to worry about getting up, setting the alarm clock or worrying about having to be somewhere? And when you do promise yourself a lie in, how often do you get disturbed either by neighbours, noise, your housemates, distant music, traffic or animals? Are you lucky enough to get undisturbed lie ins? Do you enjoy a good lie in? Do you feel guilty if you lie in for too long?

Oh we have one every weekend - usually two - Saturday and Sunday!!! I never feel guilty about it. I get up at 5.30am every weekday for work, and both my "better half" and I work damned hard in stressful jobs. So as far as we are both concerned - the lie in is sacred! Of course the cats sometimes demand feeding early in the morning, but I am quite capable of going dowstairs, chopping up their food, and then going back to bed again! Nothing gets between me and my favourite hobby of doing nothing!!

Those kind of days don't happen near enough for me. The last few weekends have been hectic with getting up early. Usually if I do get to sleep in, the phone will ring and wake me up. Can't ever go back to sleep after that either. Or, I wake up at regular work time...6 am and totally refreshed. It sucks! I don't feel guilty at all because I figure I deserve a good rest every now and then. I get up at 6 am during the week for work and I'm usually dragging by the time Friday evening comes back around. We need longer weekends!!

I hate to say it but NEVER :( With work 5 days a week and busy weekends with sports for the kids and church on Sundays we never get a chance to sleep as long as we want, maybe when we have holidays but even then it is rare.

Aren't lie ins wonderful - why would you ever feel guilty? lol Even if nothing to do the kids usually put an end to any lie-ins unfortunately and if they didn't then my Gran would as she comes over most mornings! Wantg the good news? Next week the kids are going to my sisters for a week and since my other half is on back shift my Gran won't come over til afternoon so I can have a long lie every day! Yippppeeeee Hugs to you my darling brother! xxx

I work in shifts so I usually do not start until 2.30 in the afternoon wich means I can more or less lie in all the time but I dont since there are so many other things that needs to be taken care of. I do feel guilty for sleeping at times, since the time could be used to something more useful, but sometimes I just ignore the guilt and sleep - coz actually I feel alot better and get alot more done when I am rested

I think that's one of the few things I miss since becoming a dad. I never was one for lying-in anyway, once I'm awake I have to get up. I used to really enjoy doing exactly as you describe though, just being able to sleep until I wake naturally. I think I've done it once or maybe twice in the last 9 months, when the wife's decided to 'treat' me.

I sleep in on the weekends in the summer as often as I can- Often times my daughter will beat me up and wake me up- She is good at that- Sleeping in to me is 8 am- I'm up by 5:30 ish on the weekdays for work- I don't feel guilty at all when I sleep in- I love sleeping in- When I was a kid I slept in until 10-11 am many days! I planned my college courses later in the day so I could sleep in.

I mainly look at Sunday as my sleeping late morning. I just never really sleep very late anyway...If I sleep 8 hours , I am usualy fine and full of energy. The only time that isnt true is when I am sick....

I try to have a lie in every weekend, that's usually because I am so tired after the preceeding week that I just want to catch up on sleep, recharge my batteries and at least reduce the bags under my eyes. But having said that, wanting a lie in and actually getting one are two very different things. It's so annoying when you are shattered during the week and in need of a lie in then it comes to Saturday and you wake up at the normal time, unable to sleep in, yet as soon as Monday comes around again you don't want to get up early!! Still I made up for it this morning as I didn't wake up until 10am!!

I normally have a lie in on Sundays, as thats the only day my husband doesn't have to get up for work, so unless the cats are inside (not so much these days as the weather is hot) and are wanting their breakfast at 4.30am, I don't have to get up to a time.

My time is pretty much my own, wolfie, so I can sleep however long I wish. My problem is that I'm an insomniac, and it can become bothersome at times. I especially hate it when the phone wakes me up out of a sound sleep. I figure everyone knows I keep odd hours, so they should leave me alone during the morning when I'm most likely to be sleeping. I never feel guilty about staying in bed. I feel that I'm old enough to have earned it, LOL.

The summer time when the kids are out of school is when I can sleep in. :) But for some reason...they still bother me. ha ha They have to come to me asking what they can have for breakfast. Hmmm...if Mommy is not out of bed...the only safe thing you can have is cereal or Pop Tarts. And then if we are out of milk...I guess I don't have an option and have to get up and make pancakes and eggs.

Its great being able to sleep in. I only get the chance to do that when I am on holidays. When your at work you have to wake up early which is awful especially in winter. When you take the occassional day off sick its also good to be able to sleep in but you cant really enjoy it because your ill.

I wish. I haven't been able to lie in for a long long long time. Even when I go to visit my boyfriend and when we should be able to sleep in we are always getting up for something. Sometimes I just really want to go to a hotel room by myself and do nothing but sleep and read and take a big bath and sleep and read and watch TV although I don't really watch much tv lol.... It sounds like HEAVEN

Unfortunately, because of my 3 children, a lie in does not happen often for me. I'm lucky if I can get one every 2 weeks. My husband leaves for work at 8am, so I need to be up to make sure the kids don't destroy the house. He only has Fridays off, so that doesn't' leave us with a lot of time to do all the errands. We usually have to get up early in the morning to be sure we're able to get everything we need to get done, then do something fun as a family. If we're not especially busy on a Friday, my husband will let me sleep in. He knows I LOVE to sleep, so he does what he can to let me. LOL. :o)
