So today I took my sister, my neice and myself all to see Harry Potter. For three tickets it was $25.50. For snacks it was another $30.75 (three medium drinks, large popcorn some candy). Grand total was $56.25! For just three people to go see a movie! Now put that into some insight here. I make $9 an hour. I had to work a little more over six hours just to go see a movie. Of course my sister paid for some of the stuff as well but its just the basic fact that it costs so much to go see a movie now a days!

That's about right in terms of pricing for the tickets but the snacks are a rip-off. Totally. $25 for 3 tickets is fair considering the amount of money that goes into the production and making of the movie as well as the costs of running and operating the cinema complex but $30.75 for snacks is way to much. For that price, I can usually afford to have 2 nights worth of dinner for 3. These days when I go to movies, I bring my own food and sneak them in, because it costs just to much to buy the food there and they aren't too satisfying as well.

I know, it's ridiculous. We don't go out to the movies very often for just that reason. If we do, we go to the drive in. You seen 2 first run movies, and bring your own snacks.

Now we know why it pays to invest in Blockbuster.
I haven't been to a movie theater in years.
I can't hear well and they don't have CC in the theaters
like they do on Tv's so I wait for them to come to Blockbuster and watch them in the comfort of my own recliner with snacks that cost about 1/4 what you pay at the theaters. The cost of entertainment is skyrocketing.

I always try and hit the matinee! We usually don't buy snacks at the theatre either. I try and make sure everyone has eaten beforehand too. I may sound like a cheapskate, but there you have it. I don't like throwing money away!

Oh my gosh! I haven't been to the movies in so long and it's mostly because of the outrageous prices. I was sure it has went up more since then, but geez....do they gotta take an arm and a leg just to let us enjoy a movie?!? That's just ridiculous!

That is why we joined Netflix. We can watch all the movies we want per month and have two out at a time for only $13.99 a month. We usually get about 8 to 10 movies a week depending on the time we have available to watch a movie. Sometimes weekends is the only free time we have with working and coming home exhausted from the summer heat.
If anyone would like a free 2 week trial send me a message and I'll put in a referral for you. I will need your email address and name.
Movie prices are out of hand but it will continue as long as people pay the price. For me, I'd rather watch a movie at home in my jammies and not have to worry about standing in line for a ticket (another idiotic thing to me!)

I agree its costly to see a movie now. We are seeing less movies this year because of the recent increases for a ticket in this area. Our price is $9.50 for a ticket and some are charging more. I hope you all enjoyed the movie.

That is the exact reason that my family doesn't go to the movies much anymore! We do give our teen children the money for an occassional movie, but hubby and I just wait for things to come out on DVD. When we do go, I take my own snacks into the theater in my oversize purse! This snack usually consists of a granola bar or something small. So as to not be hungary during the movie, we eat a large meal before going...so that the popcorn/drinks etc don't look appetizing!

Hi there. Look I believe you, fully. I come from the north Island in NZ, and the cost to go to a movie these days can buy my two children a jacket each or a pair of quality jeans... I dont even bother going to the movies anymore, not only for the fact of the cost, but also for the poor quality of the sound that the theaters dish out these days... Anyway we have everything we need in our home, if we wanted to watch a good movie, and the advantage of it all is letting our children have as much friends and who they want over for the night in a safe and warm enviroment, food on going at no cost and also we get to adjust how the movie sounds right from the comforts of our very own sofa's lol... Theaters cannot beat that...

My parents said, "Why would you watch movie when in fact there's an entertainment room in the house". But as for me, seeing it in a wide screen is really entertaining, aside from the fact that they have a dolby digital surround system, which makes you shiver in the most important scene in the movie. And I fell like I'm one of the characters, too.
My company gave us some gift certificates for our corporate anniversary bunos. I might as well, get one certificate from it to watch Harry Potter's new release movie so I could save.

I know, it's gotten ridiculous. Sometimes I think about going back to college just for the student discount at the movies, lol.
Next time you go to the movies, check your grocery store and see if they offer disount tickets. Mine does, last time I got them it was $8 a ticket. The only restriction was no special engagements (which includes the first 2 weeks of a movies run).

Yup that sounds about right. For my son and it it usually costs around $15 or so for the tickets and then another $16-20 for all the goodies. If we go with his father (when he isn't working) then it could cost us more than $60. It is expensive but so much fun to watch it on a big screen than at home LOL

It sucks that going to the movies costs so much. That's one of the reasons why I don't go so often nowadays. It's much better (at least for my family), and cheaper to either rent or heck, even buy the movie on DVD after it comes out in stores. There are a few DVDs that I own that the kids still like to watch every now and then. These are the same movies that they watched OVER and OVER again in the past when they first came out on video. Could you imagine the cost if I had to take them to the theaters to watch these movies repeatedly? All I can say is YIKES!!!

There's a definite reason why we don't go to the movie theater very often anymore! There are only two of us that would be going, but still, it's too expensive to do on a regular basis for us. We usually try to go to the matinee on Saturday, which is $7 a person, and we eat before we leave so that we don't want to buy snacks and sodas.

I very seldom go to see a movie at the theater. I would rather pay for the DVD so more people could watch it and still have it to watch again if I want. If I do ever go to the movie theater, I catch the $1 shows. Other than that I will just wait to watch it on DVD.
