Would you still lie if you were put into a lie detector test?

Well we lie every now and then thinking that a little white lie once in a while isn't as evil.
But then if you had been strapped into a lie detecting machine, and asked a very sensitive question (this depends on you, on what is your deepest and darkest secret), that you would swear to not tell a single soul about, would you still lie knowing that the machine would definitely detect it as a lie? Do you think you would find it that difficult to tell the truth that you would still lie despite the fact and certainty that you will be caught lying?
Or would you simply just tell the truth, anyways one way or another there is no way out?
In a case as such, I think I would just tell the truth no matter how embarassing or sensitive the topic for me is, even if it was my deep dark secret, I'd rather be telling the truth and condemned for whatever I have been hiding, than be condemned for both the act and lying..

I wouldn't tell the truth. First off, I think I could beat it. If you convince yourself that your lie is true than you can pass the lie detector. Secondly, for correct answers I would question them in my head. Am I really 31 or 31 and 2 months so that it looks like answers that are correct are wrong. I would mess with it so much that it will not be accurate. Thirdly if it came back that I was lying I would say the test was wrong and I was nervous. They aren't allowed in court because they aren't exact from what I heard.
Why would I do this... Because some things are private and I have a right not to tell them if I don't want to. Also if you don't want to take my word for something anyways your not going to believe whether I take the test or not. Vicki

Yes I get what you mean that if you try to confuse yourself in your thoughts then you can maybe somehow manipulate the result and end up looking like you were lying when you were indeed telling the truth.
But let us say/imagine that the lie detecting machine is very accurate, as in universal, and cannot be altered, which one would you do?

I would probably still lie cause I wouldn't like being questioned and not believed.

I would probably tell the truth so that they couldn't say later that the lie detector test caught me. I could say I admitted it so what's the big deal?

As for myself .. I certainly would not lie , for why must I be so when I did nothing wrong as to be implicated ?
