Do you Screen your Phone Calls?

Hi everyone, I am so tired of being in the middle of something which requires concentration...only to have to run upstairs and get the phone! Most of the time it is just somebody trying to sell me something. I have now got to the point that I just let my answering machine pick it up and if it is an important call I will call back. However, this has limitations as well, as sometimes people do not leave a message and then I sit there and wonder who it was. Do you screen your phone calls? Or do you always have to pick up a ringing phone???

I am lucky because I have caller id. But this doesn't always display every number. If it doesn't display then it is usually a telemarketer or a bill collector. I also have a service through my cable company that displays the callers name and number right on my tv screen. If I don't know who it is, I don't answer the phone.

I have no reason whatsoever to screen my phone calls. hink people who do screen their fonecalls are either seriously paranoid or are they have some serious trust issue with someone in the house or someone who calls them. As long as no one got kidnapped or what I dont see the reason for screening calls.

I screen all my calls, it seems my home phone number is listed in the local telephone book as a car dealership so I get alot of phone calls that are not for my family.

I have screened my calls for years, and everyone who knows me knows it. In fact, my answering machine message says, "If you want to talk to me, you will have to talk to the machine. If we are here we will pick up, if not we will call you back." We get a lot of hangups, probably telemarketers, but anyone who knows me knows that I won't answer until I know who it is.

Some people don't like the idea of talking to a machine, but at least they know that they are going to have to do it if they want to talk to me.

We always screen our calls. We have an answering machine but we don't have caller id. You wouldn't believe how many people assume we have caller id. It's crazy. But, we get lots of calls we don't want to answer too. I also get mad when someone says why didn't you call me back, didn't you get my number from your caller id box.

It is pretty annoying when your in the middle of something and the phone begins to ring, so you drop what your doing to answer it. Only to discover its someone trying to sell you something. I used to get at least 8 of these types of calls a day. I rang my telephone service provider and got them to block any caller that tried to hide their phone number and that did cut down on the number of calls but not all of them. I now have caller display and do not answer the phone at all if i don't recognise the number. I know my parents have the same problem but have discover that telemarketers and survey companies tend to only let it ring on average 7-10 times before hanging up as they assume no-ones in.

I sure do sometimes I just don't want to be bothered. I have ran to the phone in the past to hear this is your credit card company we have a great offer. Who wants to hear that, the answering machine picking up the calls is fine with me.

If I can't see my caller ID then I also let it ring but if the caller does not leave a message then I just *69 and it tell me the last caller and at what time the call came in.

We do not have an answering machine, but we do have a caller ID. We get so many junk phonecalls that we get tired of picking up the phone and finding out they're just trying to sell us something. So, we always check the caller ID before we answer the phone. If it's one of those junk phone calls, we don't answer or we just hang up. And, if it's someone we know that we just don't want to talk to, we don't answer it either. It's just easier that way instead of trying to tell everyone that someone isn't home or what not.

I have a phone on my desk where I work on my computer, so I don't need to screen my calls. But, there are times when I do not feel like being bothered and I will turn off the ringer on my phone. I figure if it is important enough then they will leave a messege, if not, then it is not that important. My family members tend to expect me to be here to answer my phone and when I am not, they get an attitude, so when I am not in the mood, I turn it off.

Yes, I screen my calls. We have caller id now. So I just look at the phone before I answer it. But before we had caller Id I would let the answering machine pick it up. If it were a friend they new I screened my calls so they would leave a message. Matter of fact, I said on my answering machine message, I am either not at home or screening my calls, leave a message so I can either pick up the phone or call you back. LOL

Hello golfproo, I always screen my calls and very very seldom to pick up call from a stranger. At my office, we have one general line where all the calls related to our department, will be transfered from the receptionist counter. I have my own direct line but will only give the number to certain people only *smiles* It is hard sometimes but I still survive .... *laughs*

I have caller id plus so I can see who is calling even when I am on another call. I also have voice mail. So if I don't know who is calling I let it go to voice mail. If it is important you can leave me a message. Most of the time if I don't know the number it is some company trying to sell me something or a charity which could be a scam. Lately we get the you've won a trip prerecorded message which is a company trying to sell us something but it is pretty funny when you hear it on the answering machine. They were too lazy to actually get a real person to call and I was too lazy to answer. Machine talking to machine. LOL Vicki

Screen phone calls? I think we all do it but not purposely. Just by having caller I.D. we are screening them when it rings because we always look and see who's calling.

We have caller ID on our landline (and on our cellphones). Normally, the calls on our landline are telemarketers, so we just don't answer the phone at all. The only reason we have a landline was because it was part of a package deal with internet and cable. On our cellphones, we will usually answer it, because we know who is calling. I will occasionally ignore some calls, particularly if I don't recognize the number, but I usually answer my phone.

I have caller ID. I have 3 kids, and when the phone rings they all stand around it looking to see who it is -- my husband too. It is actually funny to watch. Of course, if it is not for them they leave the huddle. Or if it is for one of them, they will usually pick it up or leave instructions for how to hand the call. Caller ID = People afraid to answer their phones - LOL.
