When I was a kid, my best friend and I used to play "Charlies Angel". I also used to pretend to be Wonder Woman. Yep. I AM a nerd! lol I know it! Oh well. Some of the funnest things can be nerdy. My daugther has on her myspace a quote... It says "Embrace your inner dork" lol She makes a mom proud! Please share some of your nerd moments with me. Thanks

My dad watched Star Trek when I was little so I would imitate Lavar Burton's character and walk around with a headband over my eyes. lol.

I think it is safe to say I did bang into things. I bang into stuff all the time now, 20 years later, without a headband on!

I remember once when my two sisters and I were waiting for my aunt to come to take us to Disneyland with our mom, for the first time, it took her so long to get there that we started counting the number of cars that went by before she got there. We said, 1 car before she came, 2 cars before she came, and on and on. I don't know how far we counted before she got there, but we had a great time at Disneyland that day.

lol Kids do funny things when they are trying to keep themselves amused. When we were on car trips we used to play a game called "punch buggy". It's odd I hadn't heard that game for years. Then the volkswagon bug came back out and my kids started playing the same game. They then added some vehicles and invented their own version of the game.

one I hated was Four eyes for people that wore glasses . and I think the word nerd might have came from that for when I think of a nerd I picture a boy or girl with thick horn rimmed glasses.

I'm not sure when people started using those words to describe people. Honestly, I bet the world was probably a nicer place before they did. Maybe they used other words instead. I remember learning the word "nerd" by watching the show "Happy Days" when I was younger. The word "geek" I piced up in highschool. I'm not sure when the word dork became a part of my vocabulary. Of those three words "dork" is the one my daughter uses most.

Well besides pretending to be Wonder Woman I also took piano lessons and music classes in school. So in a way that is the nerdy side of me.

I didn't read the other posts... My friend and I used to set up church. She would be the southern baptist preacher, preaching of fire and brimstone. She had the most awesome southern drawl, and put the fear of God in her voice. I was a sister. She'd say praise the lord sister, Jodi. We would sing from the hymn books. Oh it was a hoot, and so much fun. We made a tape of it one time, but I don't know what ever happened to it. It gave us a sure case of the giggles. We were around 10 or 12 years old. My mom didn't know what to do with us!

Oh, I forgot. After we came home from church on Sunday, I would leave my hose on, and put on my shortest shorts with my heels and run around trying to be like Daisy Duke! My folks KNEW I was nuts!

One word guys. Science! I think I win the discussion. But yes science was it. An experiment here and there or reading some science books at times. I guess the act could be expanded to academics in general. The only other thing I can think of is watch anime but I watched it because most programing from the 90s wasn't all that great and anime really is entertaining.

What type of experiments? Is your work now, science related?

Just various experiments and observations, nothing too major. Chemical mixtures, metallic and mineral observations, and lots of stuff. Nah, my career isn't science based. I keep science as more of a hobby.

I was the biggest geek ever as a kid. In high school when all the other kids my age where discovering girls and partying I signed up for the computer club which met at the school on Friday nights...I then tired to grow a moustache that looked like a balding caterpillar on my upper lip...nothing has really changed from then to now

Sorry I can't help you. I was a tomboy, loved horses, except for the time when I was the princess captured by evil pirates or wild Indians. Then the Pirate leader or the Indian chief would fall in love with me and I would reform him. And he would shower me with jewels, and I would find out that the pirate chief was a Prince who had been raised by pirates or Indians and we would go back to live in his castle.

Lol...I still have nerd moments...almost all day...:} I wasn't the average girl when I was little, I didn't play with dolls and stuff, I was the one playing basketball or softball or swimming. I had a playground not far from my house so that is where I usually spent my time.

I was a bit of a tomboy (or is it tomgirl) when I was a kid. I didn't want to conform by doing "girl things" all the time. I tried to keep up with the boys. Unfortunately, I wasn't as althetic as I wanted to be. I had fun playing stuff like street football with a few kids in the neighborhood and dodgeball in school, but I never did well with organized sports. In fact I never tried out for any of the teams in school. I couldn't throw a softball straight and I hated running long distances in PE class. I did enjoy volleyball as well.

We would save our popsicle sticks and decorate them and name them, like they were speedboats. Then, we would line them up along the edge of the road along the curb and then set the waterhose right behind it so the bunch of sticks would take off toward the "finish line" at the next driveway. We had this portable tape player and we would do play by play of the big race. Also, my sister and I used to love gymnastics. We would line up all our dolls and stuffed animals and flip them up in the air like they were gymnasts and then rate them on how well they did. Some of our dolls were pretty aerodynamic, and some would land on their feet (before they toppled over!). We would do this for hours....

lol cute stories! Thank you for sharing! Not sure how this is related, but you reminded me. I actually used to PAINT ROCKS for entertainment at times. I guess I thought I was making the world a more beautiful place. I don't think this is something I did often. Just once probably. I used food coloring. the funny thin is that my daughter ended up doing the same thing one day. She used regular paint though. I had bought her a Little Tykes easel and I kept it out on the back porch. She decided to take things a step further, I guess.

I also used to play "charlies angels". I would be the Farrah character "Jill". I had 2 other girls that I hung with that made up the other 2. Then there were the guys we ran around with who were either Starsky and Hutch, The Six Million Dollar man or the bad guys. It was alot of fun. We had a big field with dirt piles, we made different areas our detective agency, and other areas the town. We were very creative. Had lots of fun. That was my nerdy moment...

When I was younger me and my friend had this obsession with the show DragonBall Z...one day we were in the field and she was like "You know how in DBZ they kinda fly at eachother then smash into eachother? Lets do that!" So we each ran to opposite ends of the field then ran at eachother and collided. Which was pretty geeky... Now, my geekyness is most expressed in a multitude of inside jokes that I have with my friends.

I dont know if I can cal myself a nerd? If being unheard and unpopular is then may be I am... During my early school age I usually play a mutant hero, choosing from a wide range of marvel heroes that I collected. But you know what I think everybody does the same thing. I mean my classmates would talk about who there are and what are the powers their character can do. I think there is always nerdiness within us, we will just have to explore it...

Two things come to my mind that were just dorky. One was I used to push my Aunt's little chawowa (I have no ideal how to spell it) dog around in a baby stroller down my grandma's street. (Don't ask me why) The stroller swallowed the dog. I mean those kinds of dogs are little bitty. The other thing, I would put on a play for the neighbors kids who lived by my grandma. Their parents would not let them leave their back yard. So I would stand in my Grandma's back yard and I would put on a play for them. I felt sorry for them so we would play that way.

When I was in 4th grade, at recess, I would stand up on the swing and sing, "Smokey the Bear" as loud as I could. Yes, I know, that is quite embarrassing.

I'm a nerd because I used to be super into my school work and all that and I would never go out and have fun. I kind of still do that, but I always get told I'm a nerd because I don't want to go out and party and I stay in on Friday and Saturday nights doing homework and reading books. I guess at 21 I'm supposed to be out partying it up or something...
