Electricity Bill - How much do you have to spend on it every month?

I have posted this discussion just to get an idea of how cheap or costly the energy is in different parts of the world.
We all know that the world's energy sources are depleting at an alarming rate and there has to be focussed efforts from each one of us to
1. Reduce the consumption of energy.
2. Using alternate sources of energy.
3. Finding other sources from which energy can be generated.
I spend around Indian Rupees 600 (US$ 40.00) every month on my electricity bill.
How much do you spend?
Do you think the power is cheap/costly in your country?

$40??? Wow, I wish ours was that low. Here in Houston Texas we have some of the highest electric rates in the state. We have a lot of different electric providers thanks to deregulation but the Houston area is still one of the highest. During the summer we have paid $300-$400+ per month. Other cities like San Antonio and Austin have rates lower than ours. There is always a lot of discussion as to why ours is so high.

We have Reliant which we have used since we moved to Houston. We are on one of their lower priced rates but next year I may change to another one since Reliant and TXU seem to be the highest priced ones.

I am paying about SGD100 per month. That's for water, electricty and gas. I do not have air-conditioner at home, and we seldom cook except weekends. To me, the cost is rather expensive. The main culprits are the fridge, TV, 2 fans and of course my computer.

Our electric bill is about $80 USD per month. Before we retired it was more like $140, but now we "summer" in a cool part of the country and "winter" where it is warmer. As a result, we hardly ever have to run the heater or air conditioner and we have maximum natural light. Because we are retired there are not nearly as many clothes or dishes to wash, so we save a little there, too. Power rates here are lower than they used to be, so at present they are a pretty good value.
The other good thing about saving electricity by going to the desert every winter is that the money we save on power is sufficient to pay for gasoline to fuel the car as well as for a few nights in nice hotels along the way. We would go anyway, but I like to think this way.

Our home is ran completely on electricity. We have no gas in our home at all except the gas that comes from us. lol
We are on the budget at our house, so our bill is the same every month no matter how much we use, then after 12 months, we have a tiny bill or no bill at all. We pay $156 a month, for 11 months. Which isn't to bad in the US.
My parents bill is $85 in the summer and $115 in the winter, but they also have gas and in the summer, it runs about $100.00 then in the winter they get $200+ bills.

I just moved to a 2 bedroom house and my first bill was for $98.00 so I don't know how expensive it will get in the summer as I am using air conditioning during the day time due to the very hot weather we are having. I live in Southern California, USA.

I live in the United States in a small one bedroom apartment and our electric bill is anywhere from $90-120 a month. I used to live in a bigger two-bedroom apartment and our bill was never more than $30. I don't know why it is more expensive here, but I hate it.

Last month, my electric bill was 165.00. This month, it was 233.00 due to the electric increase in my area. I'm not sure if it was the entire US, or just my location but there was just a serious issue regarding electric pricing, and everybody's prices went up about 50% here! It's insane. Between electric and the cost of gasoline, you almost need a job just to pay for that!

Our bill is usually around $100 per month.
We live in an apartment in an area that gets pretty hot so our electricity bill goes up in the summer. During the Spring and fall our bill is the least and has gotten down to $60.

I live in Kolkata which is covered by CESC. For quite some years now, CESC is recovering arrears from its customers, I don’t know for what. We are having to pay Rs. 1000 to Rs. 1200 every month. We have 4 rooms (2 bedrooms, 1 sitting room, I kitchen&dining area), 2 TVs, 1 fridge. Most days, the fans in only one bedroom are switched on because we don’t stay at home and my in-laws sleep in their bedroom with my son. Its also seldom that we use two TVs simultaneously. Only from the evening till say 12 at night, all the lights and fans are kept on. The fridge of course is kept switched on 24hrs. we don’t know when this will stop, or what the rates are in other metros, but we feels its too steep.

My average cost per month for electricity in Nebraska, USA, was $41.71 last year. Our gas bill was $66.06 per month on top of that. So our total energy bill per month was $107.77. The total was $91.00 average the year before, and $82.00 the year before that. So the cost is definitely going up.

In the state of Connecticut, USA, our electric rates are sky rocketing all the time. WE just had a 50% increase and the (2) companies are asking for another increase. Depending on the season I pay between $100.00-$200.00 per month. I try every cost cutting product and use as little power as I can.

On average I spend around $100/month. You must understand that the United States has a lot higher utility bills than others, or so I've found out.

When you get your bill is there a reading code on it? Like a=actual reading, e=estimated reading, etc.? We were getting clobbered, too. It was the estimated reading that was too low, so the actual one really messed us up because it was part of whatever they underestimated from a previous month and the month we were in. So now I'm c=customer reading. The months when they don't send a meter reader out, I read it and call it in. That way I don't have any surprises. Our bill has to do with reality. Take care
