Do you own a microwave oven? What do you cook most in it?

I think I would be lost without my microwave oven. My old one took 3 minutes to heat the water for a cup of tea so my son bought me a new one for my birthday and it's fantastic! I couldn't be happier with it! The old one was much to big for me since I live alone. The new one is perfect for me.
I basically heat up water for tea or just reheat my coffee in the morning. Sometimes I buy microwaveable meals for myself and I love the pancakes and french toast stix that the stores sell. I've never cooked meat in one though and don't think I ever will. I think their great for defrosting things too.
What do you like to make in your microwave? Do you have special foods or meals that you use it for? Would you miss your microwave oven if you didn't have one?

I don't know what I would do without my microwave oven LOL Well I do know but things would take much more time, which I don't have.
I usually don't have much time and I like to make all my meals from scratch so the microwave helps me a lot there. I use it to defrost food, to warm up leftovers, to cook somethings to add to the food I"m cooking in the stove etc. I don't usually cook a complete meal in the microwave but rather use it to help me put everything together.
Sometimes when things are busier I cook several meals and freeze them so when we're in a hurry we can just take them from the freezer, microwave and it's ready.

That is one of the best parts of it! I also make meals ahead of time for myself and just "nuke" them for my dinner. It saves so much time and not so many dishes and pans in the sink.

I have a microwave but I dont really use it all that much, just for thawing out or heating up a weight watchers type dinner, I still have some doubts on the health issues of microwaves to be using them a lot.

The only thing I really cook in my microwave, ctry, is stuff like pasta dishes. I don't think I would ever cook meat in one either. Basically, I use mine for the same purpose as you-tea and coffee, and the occasional microwave dinner. I would probably miss the convenience of having mine, but I've never really trusted them because I have heard a lot of negative things about them. I think mine has gotten too old, so I'll either throw it out or buy a new one.

My previous one was definitely old. It took 3 min. to heat up a cup of tea! It didn't even have the LED read out. Very old huh?

I have heard of making cakes in a microwave but have never tried it. I also "bake" my potatoes in it because they cook so fast.

I have had the same microwave for about 10 years and it still works great. It is a small one but really that is all I need. I usually heat up my coffee or tea in it mainly. But I also use it to heat up veggies and unthaw things. I also do popcorn in it but that is only because I find it hard to find regular popcorn for the pan anymore. Most are microwavable. I have heatened up soup in it too. Melted chocolate and more. What I like about it is that it doesn't heat up the house or add too much moisture in the air like my stove. In a small house like mine without a/c and the windows face the opposite direction then the wind, it gets real hot here and the stove just bakes the house. I am probably complaining cause it has been 30 C in the shade for the last 5 days and I am not used to so much heat. I am trying to use the stove as little as possible and I don't have a BBQ. LOL Vicki

I'm in the same situation as you are. I live in a tiny 3 room apartment and if the oven is on for any length of time it gets unbearable in here. There isn't any place I could barbecue if I had one either.

Well I always warm a cup of water in the mornings for my coffee since I drink instant. I also cook my eggs and bacon in there for breakfast. I warm my veggis in there for dinner and all of our left overs we warm in the microwaves as well.

I do own a microwave and as of lately I don't use it often. I don't really like heating stuff up via the microwave. I don't like much leftovers. I think my microwave these days are used most often for fresh popped popcorn, because boy do I love that...and as a timer for my food in the oven because I just don't like the oven timer!

I use my microwave mainly for defrosting , reheating things almost daily. At times , the things requiring quick cooking, are put into my micro. I also feel rather lost without it. I have also tried cakes, though they dont brown from the top, and it isnt very pleasing to the eyes, unlike the normal ovens, which will brown things perfectly well. But yes, whatever needs to be cooked in a jiffy, microwave is the right choice, and am glad you got a new latest one, which cooks up things faster.

I don't know how "unhealthy" the noodles are. Lots of us eat them because they are fast and filling.

I have no microwave oven, it is not useful for me. I don't cook for myself, so I often have dinner in some reastaurants. But now I try my hard to learn how to cook, because it is too dirty to eat outside.

I have a microwave oven in my home for six years now, but I seldom use it. For our cooking, we do stirfry very often, so we use the wok instead of doing baking in the oven. Once a while, we will use this to heat up food, or we use the conventional setting to bake some cakes or pies. So I would say my microwave oven is kinda underutilised. But it is still useful to have around when I need one.

The microwave..best invention ever. My father gave me one for xmas back in 1985 and I thought that I would never find a use for it. It is perfect for heating up leftovers. When my girls were teens, I would prepare meals before going to work on 2nd shift and leave them plates to be heated up for dinner. It is also great for coffee. I make a pot in the morning and then shut it off so it doesnt get over-cooked. I just pour and zap in the microwave and it saves on coffee.

I think the microwave has been a life and time saver for a lot of moms who work. At least you know the kids will get a hot meal while your at work.

For me, i personally can live without microwave. My parents bought one in Philippines and we hardly even use it.
But my husband can't. So a microwave is a must have here at home. He likes his first coffee in the morning with warm milk, using the microwave. We usually use it in reheating leftovers, thawing meat. Sometimes my husband cooks potato in it when he fancy one.
Cooking meat? We did tried few times. When we ran out of gas in the oven, so my husband tried , well, it call it "experimented" cooking the whole chicken in it, he even did with the roast pork. It was okay. But i do admit the taste and result is not like the one if you cook it in the oven. I still prefer my meal fresh and tasty.
:D

I think the secret to cooking meat in it is to put it in the conventional oven at the end. That way it browns and gets juicy.
