Can you believe that 47 % responded that it was okay.....

Shocking, cause we live in the same state. That is just mind blowing to say the least. I find it disturbing to think adults like these sort of vile events. I can't stand to watch boxing so you can imagine how I feel about watching animals with no choice in the matter fighting. Sick

I do not feel that any kind of animal abuse is okay. I think that people who enjoy this sport become desensitized to those around them and to their fellow human beings. It just is not what I want to encourage in society.

OMG I can't believe anyone thinks the horrific act of cockfighting is okay! I do know there are some places in the US - especially in the South - where it is part of the "culture" and deemed okay. To me it is animal cruelty and therefore wrong morally. Do you believe that people really think it is okay or do you think the same people voted multiple time or misunderstood what cockfighting is?

I am not sure what all it involves, but I am against it. I am not alarmed at the response rate of 47% approving of it. I cannot speak for or change others feelings about it. It just goes to show you how bored people are with their lives and how low they have to stoop for entertainment.

I find that pretty alarming, yes. And no, I don't think cockfighting, or any other animal fighting, is okay. I think it's sad how little people care for animals that aren't "cute" and aren't typically pets. I tried really hard and managed to make a whole post about this without engaging the dirty part of my mind. Go me! Except of course by telling you this I'm defeating that, aren't I?

i think it's basic human nature not to care about cruelty unless it's directly affecting you. Yes, there are those good hearted people who see cruelty and pain and feel compassion and NEED to help. But most peopel are too selfishly wrapped up in their own lives to even care, let alone do something. At least caring about cruelty to life is something... but so many people don't even feel that, unless theyre the ones being mistreated.

Yes and no. After all, we are a society with all of those gross shows with people doing dare-devil stunts or eating incredible things or going on survivor shows. Or, watch any number of really violent wrestling shows. So, it seems that watching blood and guts is something we like...after all it's on tv, in the news, in the movies...we're surrounded. Personally? it is reprehensible.

To me raising animals or any type of non human creatures to fight is cruelty that can only be found in mankind. To me it is sick and perhaps these people should not belong to the human race.

Boy that is pretty sad...so when are you moving?? It can be pretty scary when you see polls like this...who are these people...what else do they think it's okay to do??? Run...run fast and go far....lol People are just too crazy these days. It's so disgusting to think that anyone believes it's a good thing to provoke, encourage or even watch any animal fight for fun....

This may sound ridiculous, but I think people are pretty ambivelant about animals that we eat. They'll look at cockfighting and think "it's only a chicken" but those same people will get infuriated over dog fighting because those are household pets....it's all wrong in my book...just my 2 cents

That's terrible! I'd be willing to bet that most of the people they asked were men and I'd be interested to know where they found these people. Try to keep in mind that polls like that are usually done on specific type groups of people. So, don't worry too much because polls can be taken to get the result that the poll taker wants to support some perspective they have. It's just like with statistics. You can easily manipulate statistics to say whatever you want them to say by focusing on a certain group or groups of people. If they took that poll from a group of animal lovers, they'd get an entirely different result. It's likely that they went into bars or gambling arenas to get that perspective so don't let it bother you too much.

Did the news paper do a poll on the nationally of thoes people who voted? I was wondering if a certain race of people thought it was OK to have cockfighting. I know in Mexico Cockfighting is legal just like bull fighting. In Central California we have a big problem with cockfighting along with dog fighting. I feel it is gross and by all rights the people who do it should be prosecuited.

hmmm, somehow, you sound like you came from the same place as i did. hehehe Well anyway, quite alarming yes it is. But the thing is, people think that wrong stuffs are correct when they have been doing it for a long time. Like in this case, cockfighting, for about 50 years in the culture, so people would think that "hey, its not bad after all." when in fact it is. In this case, someone needs to go against the flow to act as notice to them. Maybe a friend how comes to the cockfight every weakends then would suddenly stop attending and would persuade his friends to do the same, might do something. But if this culture is deeply rooted... i think its not going to be easy.

Yeah, I believe it because I bet those people are the ones that enjoy cockfighting a lot more than average people.

I'm not so much alarmed, as disgusted. But sadly not in the least bit surprised. Some people may not like me saying this, but on the whole, I am not a great fan of the human race. Far too many people have no respect for other living creatures or their environment, and seem to think they are superior to averything just because they are "human beings". Some seem to take pleasure out of witnessing the pain and torture of animals and other living creatures, because it shows them they are "powerful" over them, and can decreee whether they live or die. And many others are just too thoughtless and insensitive to think deeply about anything as long as their own family are OK. Personally I have far more respect for animals than I ever have for people.

I think ANY kind of animal fighting is wrong! In our area, dog fighting is the big thing. It sounds like the news station should run a story and show EXACTLY what cockfighting entails and the end result. I find it sad that that many people would think it was ok. Not really surprising, but still sad.

I think poll result of 47 % has no impact or it has nothing to prove that most people like cockfighting. It could be a big question of who were the respondents. It could be ninety percent plus if most respondent were all cockfighting aficionados or what we called in our place "SABUNGEROS". Cockfighting is THE GENTLEMEN's GAME. And if polls be conducted in our country? and the respondent are all millionaires, it could be as high as 47 %. I can say that 2 in every 3 millionaire here in our country are cockfighting crazy. LOL, im not a millionaire but i sometimes participate in derbies.

Wow, that's pretty pathetic. I hate the thought that there are that many cruel, and thoughtless people on the earth. But I guess I'm not that surprised. It's horrible that anyone would think that cruelty is ok, whether it be a person, or a chicken. When something bleeds, it hurts, it would be nice if these people,(if you can call them that), would suddenly grow a heart, but I think, once your cruel, you'll stay that way, so I don't like the thought, that they're on this earth.

I am not here to vote or cast opinion, I just want to know what is it about cockfighting that you don't like? Just curious.
