Does anyone star gaze ? Have you got a telescope ? How often do you star gaze ? What strange things have you seen ? Whats the best telescope to buy ?
I wouldnt mind having a go at star gazing, I think that it would be quite interesting, I dont own a telescope so I cant see much...

I do not really star gaze, but there was this time when where driving, early dawn, the sky was clear when I caught a glimpse of a meteor shower. The sight was really awesome. There was another time when we heard from the radio that mars is at a time when it is closest to earth and visible without a telescope. It was very interesting to be able to see it. So everytime the sky is clear and I could see the stars I take a moment to stare hoping to catch a glimpse of falling stars or nearby planets....don't forget to make a wish.

Hey there's another falling star bound our way. I remembered Haley's comet comes every 75 years, I knew it passed by year 1986, so it is sure to comeback on year 2061. So let's not miss it...LOL
Hope I would still be able to see clearly at age 90...*smiles*

I love looking at the stars, it gives me a relaxing feeling. When I was younger an would go to parties and stuff I would stay the night and sleep in my swag under the stars. I always wanted a telescope and still do. I would love to go to one of those big telescope places and star gaze for hours. Make all the problems dissapear looking at the big star covered sky, make me feel insignificant.

I love stargazing, stargazing to me means, lying on the grass, or on the rooftop, facing the dark sky and stargaze... I don't have telescope, it's very expensive. :)

I used to love astronomy when i was a kid. I don't know much about constellations and such, but i have read some books on the topic (planets, stars etc) and i love it. Gazing at the stars has an invisible magnetism.

I do not have a telescope..still I gaze at the stars whenever there is a clear sky. You are not analyzing the peculiarities or the nature of a distant star when you are gazing at them. It is a kind of hobby that you can pursue. You should have some sort of aesthetic sense to view the stars in its glittering charm and beauty. The flicker of the innumerable stars in the sky on a cloudless night is a gorgeous sight to watch.

I love the natural beauty Calais, in whatever form, shape and manifestation it is:-)
Earlier, I had a set of binoculars, which I usually used to look into the skies, the moon and the stars. Now I do it simply with my eyes. I see a lot of things seeing the night sky. I try making and finding interesting shapes in them. I also see some stars changing colors slightly when they shine brightly. Some do it more than others. Some are hard to see being very dim but they don't get away from my eyes, yet I know there are millions of them that I can't see. I have also tried getting direction from the north star and It was quite an interesting thing to do!
Stars are interesting, in every definition that we have. They are simply beautiful and amazing to look at. Some are intelligent than others and some are quite amusing yet others are quite hot, as it seems from the shine and blush they have:-)

I used to do some star gazing when I was younger. I don't have a telescope, too but I have some sky maps to aid me in identifying different stars and constellation.
I really enjoyed star gazing because it's very relaxing and different experience for me. It also made me feel humble and thankful because of the beauty that surrounds me.

The kids are doing assignments on this this term. I havent ever done much stargazing, but it is an interesting topic. In our area, probably about 3/4 hour away, we have a big telescope centre and astronomy centre. I havent been there yet, but would love to take the kids there.
Best wishes to you, calais

I love star gazing. I have been watching the night sky since I was a kid. I remember when I was around 10yrs old a friend and I Laid on the hill in the grass to watch as the stars came out....next thing you know we had both fallen asleep and woke up about 2 hours later....haha as our parents were yelling for us. I have seen a few things I have never been able to identify... lots of satelites...we used to see who could spot the most. I don't have a telescope but often wish I did. The sky where I lived in Wa. was quite good. Where I live now in Ma. there is just too much light to see satelites unless I go to another part of the state or near the ocean.

Hello Calais.........
Stargazing is a great pastime/hobby and a decent telescope is not that expensive. And yes, binoculars also work well if you can hold them steady by bracing them against something. I've been looking at the night sky ever since I realized it was there. I have several sizes of binoculars and two types of telescopes, the largest is a 10 inch Dobsonian and the other is a 127mm (5") Maksutov-Cassegrain, much more portable and renders a look at all the planets out to Saturn that will take your breath away. On really clear nights I can see some cloud detail on Jupiter, spot it's four largest moons, the Cassini Division in Saturn's rings is strikingly dark and several of it's many moons are visible.
To get you a look a telescopes and binoculars to see what's available try this site. You'll want to find a more local dealer if you decide to buy, shipping from California to Australia will not be inexpensive.

Keep looking up......
