Do You Tan Easily, Or Do You Have Freckles?

I am blonde, although these days, you would call me more platinum blonde, as the silver is starting to outweight the gold. lol. Having been naturally blonde all my life, I also have quite fair skin.
I normally sit out in the garden a lot, from May onwards but this year has been so wet and cold... up until just recently... that I haven't spent much time out there yet. I like to lie on my lounger and read my book, with the parasol protecting me from direct, midday sun. For over a week, it has been hot and sunny and I've avoided going in the garden so far, for fear I might burn, and I'm ever aware of skin cancer, but I thought today, as the temperature is due to drop a few degrees, I might take the plunge. I've been out walking all weekend and have acquired a bit of a tan, but that only brings out the freckles... on my arms, my legs and my nose!:) I don't really mind them... I think they can be quite attractive both on myself and others, but I was wondering how many other people suffer freckles, and if so, how do you feel about them? Who tans easily, and what do you do to protect your skin from both aging and skin cancer?
Just curious... I use coconut oil to keep my skin as moist as possible. It's especially for use in the sun, and I find it stops the "burn" as well.
Sometimes I mix a little lavender oil in, and I use essential oils in my bath. How do you all treat your skin to stand up to wind and sun?

I seem to have quite a few freckles on my arms this year... moreso than usual. I don't know why that is, but perhaps because of the late summer, and the position of the sun just now.
I do have a bit of colour and don't need foundation on my face at the moment... I go bare! lolol
Brightest Blessings, my friend. xx

Careful, Darkwing too much sun will give you Skin Cancer. Hey Balasri, you are like me, we don't need one.

The same as Marcia, then. It must be quite nice never having to worry about getting burned by the Sun, or perhaps you do, I don't know. I go to a light golden tan, with freckles, but I don't mind that too much. Just sometimes, I'd like not to have to be so careful in limiting my time in the Sun. I like the Sun, but it does NOT like me too much! :)
Brightest Blessings... great to see you!

Lol at the comment about the rust, Weemam. Where do you think all these funnies up from?
The wind can tan as well, as you probably know. You've possibly been outside with your arms uncovered and got the tan without realising.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input. xx

As you know, I was born in England and have what is here called a typical English complexion, although I've always thought it more Scottish. Everyone here says how white I am, but when I go to England they say how tanned I am!
I was a redhead - very much a redhead - with the typical redhead skin and yes, freckles, but very few and far between and only on my arms. When we first came here to Australia, I lived in the sun. I would have sunburn on top of sunburn and blisters on top of blisters - especially my arms and legs. Nothing was ever mentioned about skin cancers or melanomas in those days and sun-protection was unheard of - by me anyway.
For the last forty years I am almost never in the sun. I avoid the sun. However, nearly twenty years ago I had a melanoma cut out of my leg. They cut out a piece 13cm in diameter and 4cm deep. In those days they (thankfully) didn't have chemotherapy so they made sure they got rid of it all.
I use Oil of Ulan on my face but I don't use any body oils or creams, and only on very rare occasions do I use a hand cream.

PS Isn't it odd the way we wrongly picture people? I had always thought of you as a brunette with short, slightly wavy hair.

Oh boy, that was a big cut into your leg. I use Oil of Olay on my face too, when I'm putting make-up on, but if I'm going out into the sun, I put the coconut oil on my face too. I'm surprised how I've caught the sun the past couple of days and not felt any burning.
You're very lucky if you don't have to use anything on the rest of your body to keep your skin moist... then I suppose if you avoid the sun, you wouldn't necessarily need it. I can't imagine how you coped with all that sunburn and blisters when you first went to Australia... ouch!
Brightest Blessings my friend.

Oh yes, the time is getting near now, isn't it? You're "conditioning" your skin for your trip, so to speak. I don't use sunbeds but I guess yours is more for prevention purposes, but do be careful. They can be just as harmful as the Sun's rays.
Brightest Blessings, love and hugs. xx

Ha ha ha... yes, I see what you mean, Marcia. You have a great tan, and so does your sister. Some of us aren't so lucky, lol. I'm pink with freckles! he he.
No, seriously, I do tan lightly but never very much... just enough for it not to look silly with my blonde hair. My freckles seem to fade into any tan I get too. They're not bad. I was just wondering how other people were.
Have a great day! x

I get a few freckles but they're not really dark and blend in with the tan when I get it. I don't mind them at all... in fact, I'm quite attached to my freckles, or they're attached to me! lol.
I used Dove lotion sometimes, because it's nice and rich, and sometimes, I'll mix a little lavender oil with it, which as you know is my favourite, and Dove being odourless, it goes together fine. The lavender keeps insects at bay too. Coconut oil is always applied before going outside on a sunny day, because it seems to stop the elements drying out your skin on hot days.

I'd love to be able to get a nice tan but I am so fair-skinned that just 5 minutes out in the sun causes me to burn (even when I have sunblock on). I've developed a bit of a base (finally) having lived in Georgia for the past 3 years but it took a good few burnings to achieve that.

I have very light skin and freckles. I burn easily, and never turn tan. I just get more freckles, and go from red to white again without ever hitting tan. Poor me. =p
These days I use really good sunblock so that I won't burn at all, and it's pretty rare that I wind up with a sunburn. It's just a matter of remembering to put it on even when you're not going to be out for very long, or even when it doesn't look sunny. That's part of the problem most people have, they don't realize you can get burnt even if it looks overcast.
If I do get burnt, I usually use aloe-based products to help take the sting out. =)

Lavender essential oil and yoghourt, believe it or not, are very soothing on sunburn, but please use only plain yoghourt or you'll be surrounded by bees and things! ha ha ha
I like freckles, Lecanis, but mine are quite light and I do get a bit of a tan with which they blend.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input.

Hi Darkwing, I'm quite fair skinned but don't get into the sun much. I used to go red all the time, but after a holiday in America I when I went really brown my skin doesn't go red anymore (how weird is that and that was 4 years ago!) I have a few freckles but only the odd few here and there. I prefer the fake tan nowadays, so much better for your skin - apart from you can end up looking like an umpa loompa! Hope you're well - sorry haven't been around much got a busy time at the moment!

Hi Bizzie... good to see you but good that you're keeping busy. I think that once your skin is exposed to the elements, the burning does reduce. I don't burn much now and if I do, it doesn't last more than a couple of days. I tend to tan quite easily these days, but not too deeply, from light to golden colour. My freckles are light too and don't bother me. I quite like them in fact.
Ha ha ha.. what does an umpa loompa look like?
Yes, I'm perfectly well, and don't worry about not having been around much. For one, it's summer time and the weather's good so people tend to go out more, and for another if business is good, we don't knock it!!!
Brightest Blessings my friend and thank you for your input.

Even though I'm a born n bred Londoner, I'm of Indian origin so have brown skin... I guess I would not consider myself dark or fair but a medium shade of brown and I have to admit that I avoid too much exposure to the sun. I do tan but I tend to burn easily, which is generally why I avoid the sun as well as not being a sun-worshipper. I don't freckle (for obvious reasons LOL) and my hair does not change colour - just the passing of time is giving me grey hairs in place of some of the black ones. I am pretty wary of getting skin cancer and I do feel worried for people who walk around the streets half naked as soon as they see a bit of sun to get some colour but I don't have the nerve to go up to them and ask if they are wearing sub block or if they have put sun block on their kids who are walking around with just shorts on...

When I was little I had blond hair but as I got older it turned to a medium color brown but since my normal color doesn't suit me , I have been dying it blond for years now . I tan incredibly easy and if I go out at all I become tanned within a couple of days . I rarely have to worry about burning and never did have much to worry about in that department as even though my skin is light colored for most of the year , as soon as summer hits , I get really dark .
I don't have any freckles but my children who are very fair get more and more freckles every year . They don't have a lot but when they are out in the sun they get more and more on thier face every year . Thier face is the only place they have any freckles and neither my husband or I have any , it makes me wonder how each of them get them every year . I usually make sure they wear a hat when outdoors and always have sun screen on them for protection but for myself I don't do much . I use any hand and body cream I have for when I get out of the shower and only wear sunscreen on days that I am worried about the UV rays because they are high .

You sound as though you're very sensible as far as the Sun is concerned. Your children probably have freckles because early in life, their skin isn't conditioned to the elements and is susceptible to the Sun. If they wear sun block and hats, they should be fine anyway... they'll probably grow out of the freckles.
I didn't... I tan more easily now, but the freckles still come. They're not ever so prominent because they kind of blend in with the tan and are not too dark in colour. I quite like them now... they can sometimes be quite attractive.
Brightest Blessings.

My hair is a light brown with reddish tones and I definitely have a redheads skintone and lots of freckles. I don't go out in the sun much at all if I can help it. I never lay out to tan on purpose because all that happens is my freckles get dark but the rest of my skin just burns.
I make my own self-tanning lotion and use it year round so I don't look so pale. I bleach my hair blond so the tan looks better with the blond hair. If I didn't use the self tanner I would look like a ghost when I'm on stage with my band. Those bright lights can really take all the color out of your face.
I make my own moisturizing lotions and serums. For my lotions I use a base of Rice Bran oil and Jojoba with a little Shea Butter and Cocoa Butter. I like to add a drop or two of Ylang Ylang and Melaluca essential oil to my mixtures. It's great for the skin and I love the scent. I also add Aloe Vera, Allantoin, Collagen, Glycerin and an Algae based skin tightener. It's very healing, holds moisture very well and protects my skin nicely.
I also make (almost) all of my own makeup. All my eye shadows, blushes and foundations have an SPF of about 20-25 so it doesn't let much UV through at all. I can be out all day in the sun and not burn as long as I have my makeup on.

Wow, you're a busy lady making all your own moisturisers and make up, as well as singing with the band. I've watched your videos, by the way, and they're great. Well done!
I thought you were looking quite tanned for somebody who doesn't go out in the sun much. My freckles don't go too dark... they're light in colour, so they blend with the tanning. I do tan a bit, to a sort of golden colour, which I think is quite enough with blonde hair.
You're looking great, my friend. Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input.

I do tan very easily but also have a skattering of freckles on my nose. I usually get so tanned that they don't show.
I don't care one way or the other about my freckles or my tan..it's just how it is and I'm not one to change what God gave me or complain about it.
When I go out I do not do anything to my skin. I just go what I must and don't really worry about it. I have always made sure my children were protected with sun screen.
Hugs

I agree with most of that, but I do moisturise my skin and when the sun is strong, I always put coconut oil on the areas of skin that are exposed.
Other than that, I don't go for false tanning, sunbeds and the like, and I too like my freckles, which like yours, blend in with the tan so they almost become invisible. They are light in colour, so even a light tan seems to cover them to an extent, or at least lose the prominence.
Thank you for your input my friend, and Brightest Blessings. xxx

I too am naturally blonde and Irish therefor extremely pale. I was called an albino as a kid because kids are stupid and don't realize the traits of real albinos. you know. anyhow...I don't tan, I burn. I get sun poisoning and I'm not a big fan of the sun for those reasons. I use baby suntan lotion a lot because it's very highly protective. Lately I've found Aveeno is very good at keeping your skin feeling nice as well as keeping away the burn. I don't do the oil thing or anything.

I used to burn quite a lot but since I exposed my arms, shoulders and legs to the elements a lot more, I haven't had the problem for a while. I get a lightish to golden tan with freckles which are not dark, they blend in with the tan, so they don't bother me too much. I quite like them, in fact.
I do find coconut oil very good for the skin, though, so to avoid it drying out from the summer winds and sun, I always apply coconut oil before venturing out anywhere.
Brightest Blessings.

I am what the call a "heather" - not sure where the name came from but anyway - Dark Auburn hair, green eyes, light skin and freckles. I think I got more freckles from the sun than I originally had when I was little. My 7 year old has some freckles across his nose from the sun but I always put sunblock on him to prevent him getting more freckles than he needs. He also has the auburn hair (lighter than mine) but keeps it cut short. If only my daughter had the lighter auburn hair - it would be beautiful. She has brown and my little guy has brownish blonde with a hint of red highlights. My husband has brown hair but a red facial hair - go figure....

I don't know about you, but I quite like my freckles. I think they give me character and they're quite attractive at times. They're not dark in colour and blend in with any tan I get, so I'm happy with them.
Yes, it's a pity your daughter doesn't have lighter, auburn hair, but perhaps it'll come as she gets older. Sometimes hair colour does change between childhood and adulthood.
Brightest Blessings and thank you for your input.
