I have tried the following, because I use a lot of milk: I don't use milk anymore in mashed potatoes. I whip them and add a bit of butter. I drink a cup of water before I drink any milk if I am thirsty. We've been having yoghurt, bought on sale or with coupons more often. We have toast with jam for breakfast instead of cereal. This morning we had fruit crisp.

I eat cereal alot and so this has really hit me. I don't know why it all of a sudden went to high but I bought one gallon ($4.65--2%) and when thats gone I won't buy anymore till next month. I've also noticed that produce has went way up too. I don't know of any ways to stretch it except like one person said you might try buying whole and then splitting it half and half with water. AT PEACE WITHIN

Adding water seems to be the most popular suggestion.

I only really drink milk in tea so a normal litre bottle lasts me all week. Its probably different if you have young children who need the extra milk, but otherwise just use less of it. I know during the war people used to thin milk down with water, but I suppose it all depends on what you use it for.

I cook with the powder milk. It is a lot cheaper than fresh milk, although a glass of the stuff tastes God awful. You can get a very large box for about $20. If you MUST drink a glass of powdered milk, or feed it to kids, add some chocolate. That should make it go down a little easier. * I use Mochamix in my coffee. A half gallon costs $2.80, but it lasts the full month. * I get extra calcium from Tums tablets if I don't get milk.

I have started using some powder milk for my coffee the last few months. Anything to really help stretch the budget.

Your welcome! One more, premix powder milk into the coffee. You have to use a fair bit, but you can't tell it isn't creamer.

Hi. If you dont mind drinking trim milk, you could always water it down... At least that will make the full cream milk stretch... At $5.00 a gallon I would probably buy cream and add water to that... Just a suggestion... Good luck n Have a great day...

I buy powdered milk and use that in gravies and cooking. It tastes terrible as a regular milk substitute, but it's OK for scrambled eggs and such. Because it's dried, it makes a lot of milk. We add a little to what we are cooking at a time, so a box lasts a long time. Often I only use a tspoon or tablespoon in a recipe with a little water. I had a small box last 2 months. Then you can keep the fresh milk for drinking or in cereal. You may be able to buy smaller containers of fresh milk because you're using the dried for cooking.

I still but regular milk but the store I work at has it for 3.39 and everywhere else it's over 5. Try going to a convience store. It may be cheaper.

WOW! Where do you live that milk is almost $5.00 a gallon. It is a little over $3.00 here a gallon. Try this helpfull websight: www.hillbillyhousewife.com I know that it is a funny name, But she really does have some very good money saving frugal ideas.
