Does anybody have dreams every night, or do you not remember them at all?

I remember when I was younger I could wake up and remember what my dream was about. In my teenage years it had been this one dream that I had for about 3 nights the same one. It was more like a nightmare. Has anyone's dreams ever repeated themselves? Now in my 20s I can't remember the last time I had a dream or at least when I could remember one. Maybe it's because I don't get as much sleep to have time to dream or some other reason. Does anybody know why this happens or has this ever happened to anyone?

Hi, well no, i somehow can never remember my dreams, no part of it either. I wish i could or maybe just a little part of it, but somehow i have never remembered them. My sister on the contrary, remembers each scene, and when she gets up she describes it scene to scene, almost like its a real movie going on. I have asked her as to how she manages to remember such minute details, and maybe shes not slept at all and was just thinking about this scene, but i have seen her snore and in deep sleep, and get up and descirbe things to me shes seen in her dream, amazing, i would say. Maybe those who can remeber their dreams, have always done so right from child birth and have this insight.

I guess remembering your dreams is some kind of psychological thing that you just do and don't have to think about. The only time I dream is when I have a nightmare or when i daydream and I don't even think that counts. thanks for your response. sorry it took so long to respond back.

I love dreams. I just don't remember them most of the time when I wake up now days. I think that it has something to do with aging and stress levels, but I don't remember nearly half of the amount of dreams that I use to remember when I was younger.
Now that I'm 21 (as of today actually!) I'm finding it more and more beneficial to write dreams down right after I wake up in the morning.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, happy belated birthday. 21 is a great year. I see what you mean about not being able to remember your dreams, but I don't know how I could write first thing in the morning when I don't remember them to begin with.

I remember my dreams almost always, and they're in color too :)
I have 2 or 3 that tend to repeat themselves over and over. Some times every night, something with months intervals.
I do dream every night even when I'm very tired and I do remember them when I wake up, so I'm not sure if the reason why you don't remember your dreams - because I'm sure you do dream each night - is because you're tired.

I never thought about whether or not I dream in color or black and white, I guess I just get a feel for what the dream is about. I guess it would be in color since I see in color. Thanks for your response.

Why do your dreams bother you, do you have nightmares? or do you just hate to remember your dream? Sometimes I wish I could remember mine more than just about once every couple years it seems like lately. thanks for your response.

Well I use to remember dreams. Nowadays I only remember them if they were incredibly vivid (you might not believe it, but they really felt real and very possible).
If you are getting recurring nightmares and dreams ranitam it might be your subconscious telling you something, usually the dreams are interpretations of things you've consciously encountered and your subconscious will either change things or attempt to solve a problem you maybe having. That, or its trying warn you about something that you may have experienced before but may have forgotten.

You are so right, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I searched for a dream dictionary on the internet after I actually had a nightmare and remembered it a couple nights ago. I was running in this one too and being chased. I can't think of what the dream book said it meant, I think something about I'm fearing something. I'm not sure, but thanks for your response.

I usually remember my dreams, even now that I'm in my 20's.
Maybe you're not remembering because you're busy, or something has changed about your sleep cycle - I think I read somewhere that teenagers sleep differently than adults, they need more sleep or something.

I remember some of my dreams but not all of them. I usually fall asleep with music or the TV on, so every now and then I'll hear what I'm hearing as part of my dream, whether it's the same song in the background at a dance, or that I am a reporter on the news story playing on MSNBC or the BBC.

Sometimes I dream a lot..and some of them have been prophetic premonitions. Other times I wake up and draw a complete blank without remembering anything.
From my understanding about dream psychology dreams that are vivid and repetative are the subconscious mind trying to draw attention through symbolic dream states about something that needs to be addressed in daily life. The mind works in pictures...so dreams and nighmares are some kind of an outworking.
My hubby does not remember his dreams..especially if she shorts himself on sleep. Maybe you have your answer. There are different phases of sleep..if you are not getting enough your body may not be going into the phase where dreams take place.
Hope you get some healthy, deep ZZZZZZ's...we all need that to stay healthy and strong.

thank you for your response, you are totally right. Sometimes it seems as though there is just not enough time in the day. but lately I have slowed down to take time to breathe and relax. It's really helped my attitude and feelings.

i dont dream a lot but when i do, i thin i could remember most parts of it. i dream most when i woke up and then sleep again. the setails are very clear at that moment. i dont know why we have these dreams but i think it is what on our subconscious. some sy that it tells us something on our personality or what we wanted to do but never discovering it. i know that dreams are mysteries.

That is true they say that dreams have an inner meaning and connect with what you are feeling in your real life. I should look and find a dream book to explain certain dreams.

We dream whenever we are asleep, but much of the time we don't remember our dreams. If you want to remember your dreams, place a pen and paper near your bed, so that you can see it before you go to sleep. Think about remembering your dreams and no matter when you wake, if you remember anything from your dream write it down at once. It may take a few nights before you start remembering, but if you continue you can train your mind to remember all of your dreams. Good luck.

I do get dreams most of the time. But they have a short span. I dont remember them once i wake up. I just get a faint memory of it as soon as i wake up. But once totally fresh, the dreams are washed off my mind. I have a daughter whom I have seen smiling and crying in her deep sleep. She is 5-yr-old and sometimes she does dictate the whole dream sequence to me once she wakes up in the morning.

Most people dream each night. If you think you're not getting proper sleep I'd recommend, if possible getting a sleep study done - not sleep enough can effect your memory and thinking processes and even your immune system.
On a lighter note, I know I dream each night but can't remember much anymore. I need to go back to an old practice of writing my dreams down. I went form remember a little here and there to remembering all of my dreams every night - more then one - in great and vivid detail. I was even able to lucid dream more readily as well.
Good luck, ranitam!

Thank you for your response. I have been getting a more relaxed sleep, but haven't really thought about my dreams. I will try your method for awhile. thanks.

I'd usually hit the sack by midnight and that's even too late here. Even if I wanted to do more online but my eyelids would get too heavy by then, I'd succumb to sleep. Sometimes I'm down by 11:00 p.m. but on the average, it's around 12:00 p.m. My time is 11 pm.So I am not a night owl. When I was a child I went to bed more earlier 8 pm.As I grow up,the bed time is late step by step.I went to bed at 1 am when I was in college. But now I can not stay up late because I have to work in the day.

Dreams sometimes tell about a persons working of the mind during sleep. Sometimes it manifests deeper psychological happenings into a persons life. If you're stressed or something is bothering you deeply, it can manifest to dreams especially recurring nightmares. But you said that you don't dream as often now as you get old, maybe your issues were already solve and you are more at peace with yourself.

I only dream when I've just passed a hard day and I really feel tired but after I wake up, I always forget what I dream about. Suddenly I can remember but after few days later. I think it's normal
