Weight Loss and Miracle Pills

I'm overweight, I'll admit that freely and I'll even go a step further to say that I currently weight 265lbs. Very unhealthy I know and I'm doing my best of what I can to lose it, the safe way. Why is it, that so many women are willing to plop down 50 dollars on a bottle that could/can potentially harm you? Quite frankly, I look at it as this - if you want to harm yourself in losing weight, then you might as well stick your finger down your throw ten times a day for free. I decided to do a search on one particular miracle pill called alli, the side effects to me aren't worth the money nor the extra hard work it would take to safely lose weight. http://www.thewvsr.com/alli.htm Is it because it takes a long time to safely remove unwanted weight? Is that the only reason? The closest I get to using miracle "weight-loss" crap is Slim-fast but I don't even like the price of that stuff. Share your thoughts.

I used to take Metabolife, and that was before they took out the ephedra (or whatever the heck that stuff was). I took it according to the directions. 1-2 30 minutes before every meal. Occasionally, if I needed an energy boost I took one, but that was it. I knew some people who ate them like candy. My little sister took so many that she went 3 days without eating (because it suppressed her appetite). I did lose about 20 lbs during the 8 weeks that I was taking them, without exercising or changing what I ate. I also didn't pay $50 a bottle for them. My sister worked at a Metabolife kiosk in the mall and whenever people returned the "unused portion" for a refund, they were supposed to dump the pills in the trash and return the bottle to the company. She dumped the pills in a baggie and brought them home. So we never paid for them. That said, neither of us ever had any odd reaction to them. A good friend of mine and her husband were curious about Metabolife. I gave each of them 1. 30 minutes later, they were both freaking out. Metabolife was clearly not the pill for them. While I'm not entirely against the idea of using something like that to help get yourself started, I don't think that it should be used as a replacement for eating right and exercise. You just need to read the packaging thoroughly, and use them right. You're right though, some of the side effects to some of those pills are SO not worth it.

It would help if I finished my thought, no? I meant to add that using 1 bottle to help yourself along and then not buying anymore isn't entirely a bad idea. They generally help suppress the appetite, so a person gets used to eating smaller meals. Of course, it's just as easy to buy a multivitamin that has added metabolism booster and add more vegetables to your meals. That alone would be a huge help, and you're at least getting nutrients from a multivitamin. Personally, I'm going the good eating and exercise route. Well, I was. I'm kinda off that for a little while -- but just watching what I ate and taking a 20 minute walk a few days a week lost me about 15lbs in 2 months. Not too shabby, eh?

I just wish you the very best of luck. I know it can be hard to lose weight. But just keep up your positive outlook and you will be fine. And I totally agree that pills are not the answer, but instead, healthy eating habits.

I had a friend who started taking diet pills. She ended up in the hospital a month later, and I honestly think the diet pills contributed to the situation. I don't think it is worth it - there are healthy ways to lose weight, even if they do take a long time, and if you just cannot lose weight, then taking diet pills are not a good way to get healthy anyway.

"The closest I get to using miracle "weight-loss" crap is Slim-fast but I don't even like the price of that stuff. " Walmart makes the exact same shakes in their Equate name and I drink those and I have to say not only is the price right but y taste a hell of alot better too IMO....As for diet pills etc..The first time I ever used them was after having my youngest and I was using Diet Fuel....It worked wonders for me BUT I also watched my eating and of course exercised as well...HOWEVER that was when they were still ephedra pills...Recently I started using Lipo6 and they are working well for me as well..but again I try to eat properly and I workout at least 3-4 times a week..Plus I dont take the max daily dose nor do i take them every day but on days when I have a lot to do or am getting in a workout they are a great help... I really dont htink diet pills etc are dangerous (not all of them though I'm sure there are some that are)...I think the bigger problem is ppl MISusing them

The real problem is that there is no magic wand, no secret to losing weight. People want to lose weight, but they also keep picking up McDonalds because they don't feel like cooking. I admit that I'm as guilty of this as anybody else. You have to eat better foods- stay away from highly processed foods and eat more vegetables- and you have to get out and excercise. There is no real alternative, just a lot of gimmicks.

I stopped getting on the scale at 200#. I want to lose weight, but am getting to the point where "everything hurts." I don't know if I have some medical problem or what. If so, it's probably a result of my weight. I'm thinking of trying Systrim, which is part of the ACT energy drink family of products (www.m2cglobal.com/reactivate). It is a combination of pills and powdered drinks. I need to see some results FAST just to get started. After that it should be easier to exercise. I'm thinking about joining a gym or taking dance lessons. I will probably post my "before, during, and after" pics in my profile. It definitely is harder to get weight of after 30!

I'm also overweight but I have never consider drinking pills. The first thing you should know about losing weight safely is that there is no shortcut. You need to love yourself first and acknowledge the problem. Ditch the sodas, the chips and the extra meals and eat more healthy food and water and you'll lose those extra pounds in no time. If you don't like excercising then walk.
