This is really true. We got the power to choose what we want to embrace when something happens in our lives. We can choose how we respond to inevitable uncontrolled circumstances.:)
==================================
Imagine this story ...
During your first weeks of school, you are sitting in mathematics class gazing out the window when the teacher asks you, "What's the answer?"
"What's the answer?" You don't even know the question! You are speechless. Your face turns red. Panic and tears! At that moment you tell yourself, "I hate mathematics!"
That night your mother asks: "How was school?"
You say: "I couldn't answer the maths question."
And Mother says: "Relax - no one in our family can do mathematics!"
Suddenly you breathe a huge sigh of relief ... "Of course I hate multiplication! It's in my genes!"
Soon you are telling your friends, "I hate mathematics. My entire family is bad with numbers!" You figure, "Why make an effort? I'll never conquer it."
But what REALLY happened here? You got a bad start and fell behind.
Maybe this mathematics story didn't happen to you. But most of us have our own story - about singing, hitting a ball, drawing a picture, public speaking ...
We got a bad start and fell behind. No one came along to encourage us. After one embarrassing experience we gradually convinced ourselves, "I can't do it!"

Have a great weekend everyone!
I have a retreat to attend to. :)

Great story thanks for sharing it with us. I agree it has the power to change what happens to our life if we have that I-can-do-it attitude. Everything depends on the outcome of what we do so we must be always thinking positive in every situations that we faced. Just like in the story, I think some people just tend to give up when face with a challenge from the start without even giving it a try, so negative. Hope we all can embrace that "I-Can-Do-It" attitude. God bless you too! :-)

Hi eprado! The problem, sometimes, roots also with the people around us, who CAN encourage or disappoint us in the endeavor that we want to pusue. Hence, if we want to spread the "I-Can-Do-It" attitude, we must also encourage other people around us. It's just like the movie, "Pay It Forward". (",) When one person does good to you, you never have to repay that person. Pay it by doing good to another person. :)

Again, a more than decent post. "I Can do it." is a timeless mantra--now if only I knew what I could/am supposed to do to make a living...

No. I am unemployed. I developed a health problem last year near the end, and am unable to continue that kind of work, and now I can't find employment anywhere.

You are so right the power of positive thinking does so much to one development. When I get that negative defeatist feeling I quickly turn it around to positive thinking and it is such a major picker upper.

Hi venshida! :) I am glad you're good at staying positive. At times, I know that we are tempted to keep on the negative side, especially when things are really beyond your control. It's a great way to know that there are lots of people who are able to cope up and focus on the positive side of every situation.

I always try to have a positive attitude about everything. Right now I'm struggling with typing trying to learn to type the normal way. I kept telling myself that I would never learn because I am so uncordinated. I got that from my parents who told me that daily when I was growing up. Well, I learned to eat with a fork and I learned to walk so why can't I learn to type by touch w/o looking at the keyboard. By the way I typed this without looking, took me longer than my old way but it's a start. Next comes dancing lol

Hi mssnow! *woooohoooooo!!!* Way to go! :) I'm so glad that you're able to post the comment above by learning that "YOU-CAN-DO-IT!" without looking at the keyboard. It's a matter of practice, sweetie. And surely, soon, you'll be able to become a master in typing. (",) The best of luck on your next endeavor (which is dancing). When you believe in yourself that you can make it, YOU CAN! :)

It's surprising how much negativity can infiltrate our minds without us realizing it, and a lot can be traced to the negativity we grow up with as children.
I'm a firm believer in not only the I-Can-Do-It-Attitude but going beyond that with the law of attraction, which in many ways basically is the same thing...As W. Clement Stone once said,in his famous quote..."Whatever the mind of man can conceive and believe, it can achieve.” Everyone has the power to program there own mind and in doing so, one can do anything, be anything, and achieve anything..it's all up to the person themself!

Hi pyewacket! :) You're truly right about this one. When something causes us negatives, we can program ourselves to focus on the positive side. Of course, it's easier said than done. The process is not going to be THAT easy. But, it comes, with practice. (",)

Good post Sr. I find though that only a tenth of the "you can't do it" comes from the inside and the rest of it comes from everyone on the outside naysaying. Just ignore both voices and keep at what you are doing. You increase your chances of success with each failure. You are slowly but surely getting better at the task at hand. Just keep at it and it will come to you. For me it was art and later communication. People said I couldn't do it, I couldn't do it. Well, for the first one I kept at it and got to where I wanted. The naysayers there were beside themselves. In the second example everyone found out I was the victim of a jealous teacher who just sent me to communication classes because I didn't fit her self imposed stereotypes of others (yea, its a good thing if people do beyond their best not a bad thing; stupid public schooling).

Hi theprogamer! :) The people around us got the responsiblity to watch the words that come out from their mouths. But then, what they say can either "MAKE" or "BREAK" us, depending on how we take what they say.
I'm glad you're able to deal with the naysayers in your life.

That is a very good advice, Sr0415. It would help big time if we all have a positive attitude. I think it will make all of us a very happy people instead of grumpy ones at all times.

This reminds me of the story of the little engine that could. I don't remember exactly the name of the child's book but when the engine came to this large hill and at first thought it couldn't climb it and than it started to say to itself "I think I can, I think I can, I think I can and succeeded in going over the hill. You can defeat yourself by telling yourself that you can not do something. If you put your mind to it and tell yourself that you will succeed, you will and than succeed. I am not saying that it will be easy but have the battle is knowing for yourself that you can accomplish what you set your mind to.

Hi sunshinelady! :) I had never read the book, but I read a book that uses it as an example. So, the story was quite familiar to me. *hehehe* Yes, when we embrace that "WE CAN" do something, we can. If we didn't, we can never say we failed. We had just been educated and we've known of WAYS that didn't work out. :) It's a matter of changing your thoughts and welcoming the positive ones. :)

Well, today I am embracing the I can do it attitude with my earnings here on mylot. I wanted to double my earnings this month so as to cover the loss and the failure of minimum payout I expereicned last month. I am embracing it with a big heart so that it can mtoivate me to get that target. I all still have the time as long as I maximize the opportunity that was given to me.

Well, the reason why we cant carry teh "I do" attitude is because we only look at current situations rather than the situation we want to happen...it jsut feels so hopeless for us in this life

This is a great story, and life really does happen this way. It seems that whatever is drilled into our heads that we can't do, we really can't do. But, if you try to break the chain and go in with a positive attitude instead of a negative attitude and truly believe that you can do it, the story changes for the better! Thanks for sharing this, it is good to stop and think about things like this often. I know that there are a few places in my life where I need to change my thinking and go in with a can do attitude!

Hi tdbrower1969! :) Yes, indeed, having the positive attitude that help us how to deal with life differently. Whenever uncontrolled and unplanned circumstances happen to us, surely, they can either "BREAK" or "MAKE" us. So, it's a matter of knowing your perspectives and what choice you will do to respond and deal with what happened. :)
I wish you the best in life!

Hi sr0415! That is so ture. We have the power to choose and embrace the choices we have made. The power of the mind to deceive yourself and the power of the mind to justify whatever choices you have made. I guess, we have to really know how to assess all the decisions and the consequences it brings so we can be better persons. Take care and have a great weekend too!
