My daughter used to whine when she was about two to three years old. She was an only child until she was four and was very spoiled. I did the worst thing and gave into her because the whining was so brutal. But I eventually started to ignore her. It got worse because she knew I would give in. But after holding my ground (Hiding in my room almost in tears) a couple times, she stopped it. It wasn't getting her what she wanted so it wasn't worth going through all that.

He is 4 and will be 5 in NOvember but he just won't stop and now he has started the thing where when he gets mad he throws things around...toys, shoes, my books...he makes me so upset when he does this.

I don't know how old your son is, and you may not be comfortable using this method, but it was something that I heard a psychologist mention on TV. When your child whines, or makes loud noises, stop what you're doing. Lay next to where he is, and then whine constantly, or make excessive noise until he quits. Kick your legs when you're on the floor, the whole bit. Odds are, the more you do this, the sooner he'll give that up permanently.

Taylorblue, I can relate. My daughter is almost two years old and she drives me bananas. Sometimes, putting them in another room does it. I put my daughter in her room, so that I can cool off. It is their way of communication because they can't use words. But, it drives us crazy because we prefer a child that could talk to us than the one that just cries about everything and you can't tell for sure what is wrong with them.

"and then makes this primal dinosaur noise "
LOL omg that made me giggle!
How old is he? have you recently had any major changes in life like have you moved or has there been something that has upset his routine maybe or something like that?
That aside though, I would just put my foot down with him and tell him that his behaviour is UNACCEPTABLE and if he wants to get anywhere with you or anyone else he needs to knock off the nonsense..Until then he can spend time in his room...when he's ready to speak to ppl properly THEN he can come out and try again....

I try to put him in the room and then he just comes out. My husband really let him get away with murder and I am paying the price!
