Do You Go to Work when You're Sick?

I think I am having a flu right now (because yesterday I was stuck in some hot places and then cold air-con places). But I am sitting at work. To be honest, I can't really concentrate on what I am doing to thinking because I kind of feel like I have a dizzy head. But I do feel bad if I don't come into the office (even though I am not all that important *laughs*). What about you? Would you rather stay home and rest or would you still go to work when you feel sick?

Hello wondericequeen,
Aha, this is an interesting question for me to answer. I don't like to fall sick but I love to stay at home. (If you happened to read about how I wish to be a full time housewife ...somewhere here... he he he) Whenever I feel sick, I will call the office to tell them that I am taking my medical leave. Unfortunately, I seldom get sick! Even if I get sick, I don't like to see the doctor and for that reason, I always call up my doctor friend to get a sick leave from her clinic (as I can go there anytime that I wish..he he he ..don't spread the news ok!) Well, I know what you are going to say..I am bad..really! *laughs*
I hope my 'wish' will come true next year!

Of course you are a good employee. Prioritize your family before work is nothing bad! Indeed, it's your life and you should prioritize whatever the way you like. Work is really not important to me, I work, I am responsible and I work diligently but I don't really care that much because I don't think life should just be work work work all the time. I would rather do something (if money permits). I definitely prioritize my other aspects in life before work!

Oh no I don't think you are bad! When I was studying, I always skipped school (pretended to be sick) and went to somewhere fun. Anyway, I don't get sick often but if I do, I always struggle if I should really go to work. I made the wrong decision this morning, I should have stayed home.

Hello wondericequeen,
I am just an ordinary employee and unfortunately, not a workaholic at all. But it doesn't mean I don't concentrate on my job. Sometimes, I think that I am not a good worker where I always put my family first rather than my job. I only think of completing my tasks as soon as possible and of course doing it efficiently *smiles* I guess I am a bit less motivated with my present job as I don't really get much benefits after working here for almost 10 years and started to feel that the working environment doesn't suit me any more *laughs*

it really depends on how sick I am. If I am vomiting I will stay home otherwise i go to work and if i am too sick the boss will tell me to go home. I am sorry that you are sick and I hope you feel better soon.

Your boss is nice, but my boss won't tell me to go home (DAH!). Oh, if I vomit, I won't go to work too, it's too embarrassing. But now I am starting to get a headache, which is not good.

Well, I must say that i have never ever missed a working day due to any illness. But I wouldn't stay at home unless the sickness or injury didn't let me do my job properly, or was too serious, or something like that. If it's just something not that serious, i would try to go to work.

Oh, sorry to hear that you are not feeling well too! I still have half day to go (basically 7 hours more) and I think I will get some medicine during lunch and hopefully I would gradually feel better.

I have to come because nobody can't take my job beside my junior but when it comes to dateline she already had lot of something to be done.

Right, deadline + being sick = suck big time! I don't know, today, my wisdom tooth starts to hurt! So I guess I am on double sickness here.

Oh I can relate on you. I know the feeling of having flu. It's really hard especially when you are working. I knew that because I used to come to office even I had flu. I just cant leave the office so I can still make it even if I am sick I make it a point to still come and work. It is harder when you are absent for a day because when you come back there are tons and tons of work to do. Just drink plenty of water. It will help you feel better.

sometimes when i need to complete some urgent assignment and requires my presence i go to office with sickness. But i make sure to return home at the earliest after completing my job work so that i can make myself better and attend with good health for tommorrow.
Liek you say its very uneasy to work when we are in cold and have to sit in office with full air conditioned. My collegues are so good that they swich off the ac when they find me shivering or sneezing in cold.Never i take my office work to home and do.

If I am not very sick, then I have to still go to work. I can't have a day off easily. Of course I like staying at home so that I may get well soon, but it is not easy. So usually if I really don't feel well and I can't get well by eating medicine, then I will go to see a doctor in early morning. After that, I will rush to go to work.

Actually this morning, I wasn't feeling this sick! And I wasn't sure if I noticed that I was sick this morning. Things get worse when I arrive at work - weird.

hey wondricequeen,
hope you're feeling better.
if it was me.. i would go to the doctors, and get myself on medical leave. i love my job (not necessarily the company :-}), and i am a committed member of the department... which i think is why i need to be in good (physical + mental) health when i am work.
it would be worse if you stayed on while you're sick, and cant concentrate... and start making mistakes which you wont normally do. people remember mistakes better + longer than the good deeds you've done!....
so, if i am not well enough to work... i'll stay at home.

Right. Lucky today is not a busy day for me at work *laughs*. Otherwise, I think I would have made a tons of mistakes.

Sorry to hear you are not feeling well. It is probably better to stay home because you need to get well, and because if you are sick then you probably cannot do your best work anyway, and also because you do not want to give illness to your coworkers. However, I have worked at some jobs, where it was not possible to take a day off for one reason or another. So sometimes we have to make the best of a bad situation.

And yes! Because this month end is my last day around here and I feel bad about getting additional "holiday". I am alright, but I keep snizzing, which is quite amazing! I just hope to get home real soon and go to bed after dinner. As I don't work in a big company, so having one more sick worker is better than having one less staff.

i have been there before for a few times but i was still siting at work as long as i can concentrate and my sickness didn't really disturb me.. I will just stay at home if i couldn't even get up from my bed and have a really bad fever. but usually it takes only 2 days absence.

I go to work if the feeling becomes so better, will fax a leave notice to my boss if it becomes worse, for such arrangement can make him plan the next work.

Oh right! It would be bad if you pass "something" to other people! I guess it's the working mode we are in here! Everyone usually goes to work when they are sick (not too sick of course). I wish I could lay on the bed right now!

Depends on how bad I feel. If I am not feeling well then I would choose to stay home rather than suffer the consequences of a fever at work.. If it is just a cough or a flu then I would most probably still go to work. I also feel bad when I skip work, just like when I skip school, I am not used to being absent, I worry a lot on what is happening in the workplace.

I think that I have cought a flu two days ago somewhere, just one day, it was afternoon, i was at home and i started to feel something in my throught - now i am at work, i feel really bad, like my head will explode, i have a really good manager lady - but i don't want to leave a bad impresiion - and i haven't worked for a long time here like an administrator - it was a real luck that i got this job, so i am really worried that one day i could loose it somehow....

It depents how much the sick will impact my job. If my current job is to maintain a mission critical system, I will ask for a leave as a very simple mistake I made may make the system down. But if I know the simple mistake I made can be correctly at no cost, I will still go to the office to work.

I always go to work when I am sick, but it's just because all I have to do after I am done is clean up all my equipment. I am a DJ on radio for a living, and I can't really miss too much work, you know? But yeah, going to work sick is nothing new for me or any of my co-workers, in fact, I think its every other week someone is sick. So it happens alot.
We just learn to deal with it.
