Do you ever get these? How do you relieve them? Do you know what causes them?
I get them all the time when I sleep. Recently I started getting them in the front of my legs between the knee and foot. Usually with the leg cramps in the back of my legs, if I stand on my leg it'll work itself out and go away. I haven't found a way to get rid of the ones in the front of my legs. Someone told me once they were caused from too much walking or from your legs getting too cold.

My husband used to get them, mostly when he would sleep. A doctor, had recommended him buying some Vitamin E and taking it. Within two weeks he was cramp free. Maybe it would help.

I do get leg cramps on occasion and I would say that its the blood not flowing through your veins as smoothly as it should be..Perhaps taking a baby aspirin a day and thinning out your blood will heal you?

hello twoey68,
its really sad that you have to face such pain.but i think as you age your body calcium decreases and that leads to such pains.i would like to give you some suggestions on this issue.if you feel like then you can follow them.i hope you will get over it soon.
1.allergen foods can trigger joint pain so identify these foods and eliminate them from your diet.
2.be sure to go low on tea, sugar, yoghurt, chocolate, tempting and spicy foods.
3.for such cramps antioxidant is the key.they ensure that the cartilage remains fairly intact.so go for fruits and vegetables as they are rich in antioxidants.
you can have vegetable juices especially a mixture of carrot, beet and cucumber.green salad with lemon, cooked vegetables like pumpkin, spices like ginger, coriander, asafoetida and turmeric all contribute to the well being of joints.
4.fruits like apples, oranges, grapes and papaya should be taken liberally.
5.vitamin E is helpful not only in preventing breakdown of cartilage but also generating the components necessary for the manufacture of cartilage.even vitamin c works.
6.a low protein diet,no milk or milk products,no polyunsaturated oils,an increase in omega3 fatty acids, walnuts, flaxseeds will go a long way in affording relief.you can take 2-3 walnuts on an empty stomach.
a radical change in your lifestyle can do wonders for cramps.
besides for instant relief you can massage mustard or sesame oil on the areas of concern.ginger oil will also work.
i hope these things will help you to some extent.

I've heard of lack of potassium being the cause of leg cramps. Try eating a banana, they have a lot of potassium in them. Can't say that I have leg cramps in the front, they are usually in the back of the leg.

I received the worst leg cramp of my life yesterday, and it lasted for about an hour. I thought that if it was going to last any longer I was going to have to call my grandmother and have her help me get to the hospital. I finally got rid of it by twisting my foot. Now, I know it sounds gross, but it worked for me. Twisting my foot took the pressure off of it.

Hi Twoey! I found a way to help my s/o. She would be woken up with leg cramps or even get them in the daytime. I mentioned to her to drink a lot more water because it was mostly coffee that she drank. She hasn't had bad leg cramps for a long time now, but i remind her now and then about drinking water to stay hydrated! Take care.

I get them in my toes and calves and below my calf and shins. They are dreadful...specially when I'm asleep and I make it go away only to have it keep returning when I try to lie down and go back to sleep. I got one the other day round my ankle on the outside. It felt like someone had shoved a broom handle up into my foot and were slowly turning it back and forth. The pain was really intense and I was so shocked and couldn't move then I got the foot caught in between my chair and the couch and I was really scared. I just have to think about it to feel it again. Horrid.
I can only get rid of mine when I stand on them and apply a bit of pressure. If it's a toe, I bend it back towards me.

i have them too especially now that i am pregnant. here are a few tips i found, hope they are helpful =)
drink 6 to 8 glasses of water daily
stretch calves regularly throughout day and night
do aquatic exercises regularly
wear proper foot gear
keep blankets loose at the foot of the bed to prevent your toes and feet from pointing downward while you sleep

Hello twoey68, Yes sometimes I do get leg cramps when I am playing basketball. Usually it happens when I forgot to do some warm ups and stretching before a game.
I thinks its advisable that we do stretching before we do strainous work or exercise so we won't get cramps. :-)

I used to get them all the time. Now when I stretch my legs and I feel one coming on, I stand up and stomp my feet. Believe it or not it stops the cramps in my legs. But if that doesn't help, before I stomped my feet, I would lie down with my legs stretched out until the cramping stopped.Or if I couldn't lie down, I would put a pain reliever rub on it like Aspercreme.

I have to stetch them out and hope that the it goes away. Sometimes it does right away and other times its there for a while.
