Who is the proper authority to notify? If this girl's child should even live, do you think that she should be able to keep it? Or do you think the child should have a chance to be with parents that are capable and drug-free? I am having trouble with having this info given to me. My first instincts are to call the girl's doctor or the welfare department. What do you think?

I think that you should first try your hardest to verify that she is, indeed, smoking pot. If you can, then you need to report her. If she has already had a child taken away, for the same thing, counseling will not help. Counseling only helps those who desire help. Her actions show that she does not. And if she can be placed in protective custody, it would greatly increase the child's odds. The mother has given up her life for a few hours of happiness, it's time to focus on the baby, which hasn't even had the chance to make a decision.

i believe you should do whatever it is in your power to ensure this unborn childs health. you can't determine what will happen in the long run but you can determine your level of involvement.
i would be inclined to report her smoking behavior and then let the rest play out as it will.

I'd inform child services or the parents, but it seems much more complicated than that. Still, this is a disgusting thing going on and something should be done about it. Yes, call the girl's doctor as well. Call social services if she has connections to that as well.

This girl does not learn from her mistakes.

I would inform her of the dangers she is causing to her unborn child and if she at least cares about the wellfare of her child hopefully she will stop. I am not sure if informing anyone will do any good or not unless they catch her doing it. That is really sad to me.

Jo, my first instinct would be to call the sherrif's department. I would ask their advice. Calling the girl's doctor would be of no good due to the *privacy acts* that they have out now. Some mothers have no right being mothers. They act out on the concern of themselves and not the child that they are carrying or raising. As Mike said, she needs some *slap therapy*. But... I doubt that this would do any good.

I thought that due to ethics being involved with doctors, they would have to act on this. What ever I decide to do, though, I am going to do it tomorrow, Monday. I think she needs more than slapped--she needs to be held under water--to know what her baby feels like, not getting enough oxygen!

I think that she shouldn't be able to keep this child if she did it before and lost a child because of it and now she is doing it again, she is showing she doesn't really care what happens the the babies she is making. Just wait to she what she will do to it once it is out of her body and the real work of parenting begins. Maybe once she starts showing that she wants to be a parent then she should be able to care for her children. Very sad situation.
