I take a psych. med that is very important for my mental health. I've been taking it for about 3 years and I know it's something I can't do without. Lately it has been making me sick to my stomach even though I now make sure I eat something and drink milk when I take it. I tried lowering the dosage I take...on my own... and it's still making me fill sick. I mentioned it to my psychiatrist and he seemed to just wave it off. I told my therapist about it and she said to ask him to give me something another med like this one which I'm going to do on my next visit. My luck he is on vacation right now. I'm trying to be very careful with my life since I know this makes a huge difference for me but I would rather take the meds because I never know how I'm going to feel and don't like this feeling of "walking on eggs"...lol... Would you completely stop taking a med that you need if it made you sick?

Are you taking your medication on an empty stomach? I would insist with the Psychiatrist and request a different medication. Many times Psychiatrists will assume it is in your head and probably an unconscious desire to quit the meds.

Stop taking it ofcourse. Meds suppose to heal or improve your illness not make it worse or give you another illness. Just wait for your doctor and ask him about it.. It can be really serious..maybe some sort of ulcer inducing contraindication to you.

I've thought the same thing....maybe it's causing an ulcer. I'm going to demand he change my meds.

This is a hard question for me to answer...I was reading further down and how you replied that you just started work and all. What kind of psych med are you taking anyway? I'm not big on meds myself...I ditched my therapist cause number one, I just didn't think he was helping me..I only started seeing him, cause at the time, last year, my still living mom and I were involved in a court case and our lawyer said it would look "good" for our case if I was seeing someone, when actually it was my mom more who needed heavy duty psych help--also, the only reason I started seeing this particular therapist was that the clinic was nearby and the only one that took Medicaid. But the guy annoyed me no end...yes, I've been a person with panic disorder with agoraphobia, --at one time I was completely housebound...I no longer have panic attacks, it's more like generalized anxiety, but this therapist kept pushing the idea of my taking meds and I didn't want to, since the number one med for it is Xanax...I know several people who have related horror stories with it, so no thanks. And years and years ago, my regular doc gave me an anti-depressant --I took it for about three days and threw it away..It made me feel worse! And how dare your therapist just wave off that you mentioned you were sick from the med...a$$hole! Probably thinks you're exaggerating--Are you taking any other meds, or just this one...cause sometimes it could be a combo that can make one feel lousy too--If you don't mind my asking what is your condition anyway? You can PM me if you want to tell me that way

No, i would definitely not stop taking it. The way i see it is that is better to take something that makes you sick. Where as not to take something and have health problems. If something was improving my life but making me sick i would definitely still keep taking it. But i would talk to my doctor and see if there was anything else that would help me. Good luck, i hope you get it all worked out.

I don't take meds. But I'd probably stop taking it and/or find something else to take. When meds tell you 10 things that you could suffer from, my grandmother will get about 8 of the 10. it's horrible. So I pretty much don't think I want to deal with that. unless it's absolutely necessary. I tell doctors I'm allergic to stuff that I know makes me sick (any form of Codeine makes me horribly ill) so they won't give it to me.

That is a tough call. My sister is on head-meds and absolutely needs them. They do make her sick and stuff but there is nothing she can do even when she has tried to lower the dose, eat, sleep, milk, water, etc. For myself I had a bad reaction to two different types of medications and had to stop taking them. They were serious allergic reactions and had to go to the hospital. So no I wouldn't take them again. My son is allergic to ASA and can't take it at all NEVER! I think what your saying is closer to my sisters reactions as they medication is still doing more good than bad. SO I think I would still take them yet keep bringing it up to the doctor to see if there are any other ways or types of meds to try that aren't having as many side effects. Since my bad experiences with meds I tend to avoid them as much as possible, but right now I am on antibotics (broncitis)for the first time in 15 years. I waited way too long to see a doctor and it got real bad. Best bet is to see a doctor and keep nagging til they help ya. GOOD LUCK! VICKI

Gods, tough call. It would all depend on circumstances I think, but you really need to talk to doctors on this one. There's too much at stake... However, if you start getting extremly ill, like violently ill, then by all means do not take it.

It depends. My daughter was presrcibed a couple of months back, & they made her very sicvk, so I stopped them. They weren't essential anyway. I think your psych definitely needs to recommend a change, either that, or change psych if you can. That is irresponsible of him to tell you to wave it off. I would be reluctant if I were you to stop this medication suddenly. Another alternative is to take a medicine that will counbteract the sick feeling in your stomach. Stematil is one that comes to mind. In the absence of your psych, can you get a Doctor to presribe something?

Absolutely not. Your stomach problem could be caused by something else entirely. Maybe it's something you're eating when you take your meds. Regardless, don't stop taking them, just get something over the counter and ask the pharmacist if it will work with your medicine. You might want to also ask your medical doctor if there's anything wrong with your stomach. It could be an ulcer or just a problem with acid indegestion and can be treated with a coating agent.

I will not claim to be qualified to give medical advice, ctry, but I will not continue a medication if I am having any ill effects from it. I have discontinued taking a medication a couple of times against my doctor's advice because feel that I know my body even better than he does. It seems like a callous attitude for your doctor to just wave off your concerns. I would just ask him to change my medication-and if he refuses it might be a good time to get a second opinion.

Who is the one you get the medication from? Your doctor I guess. I would let him or her know that the medicine is making me sick and maybe he or she could prescribe a different medicine, which would not make you sick

I'd get it changed. If it is really messing up your body then you should stop taking it and get something else. And remember nausea is not just an occurrence. Its the body telling you that something is wrong and its the body's way of getting rid of something it deems very poisonous to the system. Make sure to research other possible medications so you know what you are getting into.

Hello friend, you better stop taking such med because your body seemed to be fed up, for 3 years such chemical is present in your blood stream... It's awful! Try food supplement to balance your mental health. Surf our www.ganoexcel.com and discover that ganoderma lucidum extract is good for mental health.

It can be so frustrating when you finally feel like you've got something to make you better, only to find that a nasty little side effect comes along. It sounds like this particular medication is important for your mental being and I think that it would be a mistake to stop taking it abruptly. When your doctor returns from vacation, I would talk to him about it and maybe consider an alternative, I wish you luck.

That's a difficult question to answer. Is the sickness from the meds worse than the sickness of being without the meds or vice versa? Many times, when a Dr. is on vacation, another Dr. is on call in his/her place. When my teeth got smashed in an accident, my Dr. was on vacation, so I called and found out who the oncall was. If not, maybe the therapist knows someone who can prescribe something similar. It seems like if your Doctor had listened to you the first time, you wouldn't be having this predicament. I find if I play relaxing music before I take my meds, that works better. If I'm upset, no amount of food or milk will help. But if you're not upset. I had a Dr. one time tell me to wait because the pain meds I was on weren't working, He said it builds up in your system. Well, the meds were supposed to be for 24 hours. No other paid meds can be taken in the 24 hours if that one doesn't work or you can have liver damage. The first day, it worked for 10 hours, so I was in pain for 14. The second day, it worked for 8. The third day, it worked for 6. I called him and told him, it doesn't build up for me, it goes down. So finally he had me come back in and he prescribed something else. Hope something I wrote helps.

Hi ctrymuziklvr, it's difficult to give you an advice in this case because you need the midication, and is maybe not that good to stop it. On the other side if you dont you might get an ulcer if you dont have it already. I am taking omeprazol for my ulcer and it is a very good medicine, and you might try it to gether with one your are taking and making you ill. Hope this will help you :) TheFortunes
