Tomorrow's my birthday, and I'm broke. =P

I usually get kind of excited over my birthday. I know, I know, that's kind of childish. But I didn't have much to get excited about when I was a child, so I'm making up for it.
Anyone, usually I get excited about my birthday, but this year I'm broke. So I don't think I'll really be doing anything for my birthday. I really doubt my friends will buy me presents (they are all broke too, and we haven't been seeing each other much lately) so I'm likely only going to get something from my husband, and well... we're broke. =P
So I'm just kind of bummed about it. I'm sure there's got to be something fun I could do anyway, but I'll likely be home with baby all day like normal, so it just seems like it will just be another day for me. Am I selfish to wish I could have a party, or something? I mean, I'm only turning 27, it's not like it's one of the big "0"s or something. =P
So, what do you do on your birthday if you're broke?

hi, Lecanis..Dun be too sad and upset. The life is still on if we can't recover from the sadness.
Wat i will do if i am broke on my borthday??? I will phone to my close friends come out to have a drink and have a dinner wiht them. Thus we can share our problems and opinion on it too.
Or i can cook some dishes for my parents and my little baby. Gathering with family also is a nice thing also.
If u really feel donot wan to go out, then u can stay at home and watch televisyen along...

It's not a question of whether I want to go out, but just that I can't leave my son. There isn't really anyone to watch him, and I wouldn't leave him with anyone right now anyways because he's been having health problems. I would love to go out and do something fun with friends, but it's just not an option!
I could just spend time with my son though. My husband will likely be sleeping at least some of the day because he works nights, and he doesn't have that day off. I can't exactly expect him to not sleep just because it's my birthday!
Thanks for your response! You're very kind! =)

Relax and enjoy the day. Make it all about you Lecan! I've done something similar to this before a few past birthdays. Maybe enjoy past birthday gifts for the day as well so you bring up some memories. And think about what you could get yourself for a make up birthday present. Its okay to spoil yourself later on when its available.
Have a happy birthday Lecan.

Thanks for your response, progamer, and for your suggestions. I really like what you said about past gifts and memories. =)
Ooooo I'll have to think about what I want for my gift later... I'm sure there are lots of fun things I could think of! Probably some manga or anime knowing me. =P

Hmmm...buy something very cheap, like ice-cream or popcorn or make myself a cake (it can't be too expensive, right?) and just enjoy my time with my husband at home. Or we can take lots of pics together, funny pics or something to celebrate it. Or ask my hubby to give me a full-body massage as a present and followed with a bubble bath or something like that. ;-D Or I can write down gift ideas in small pieces of paper and get my husband to pick two of them and then he has to do whatever it is that is written on the paper. *grin*

Well, we've been broke for a while now. I still get presents from my family, but my husband and I usually just do small things. We bake each other a cake, and we get a new book or something.

Happy Birthday, lecanis :) I do understand how you feel. My birthday was last week and, because I took a month off work this summer to deal with some issues with one of my daughters, I am watching the bank balance like a hawk! I told my husband I didn't want any gifts (although he did still buy me a nice aromatherapy lotion and some bath salts). I told the family that all I wanted was an ice cream cake from Dairy Queen :) Since I've been following the South Beach Diet, I thought that would be a wonderful treat. So, I DID get that :)
Also, each year because my niece's birthday and mine are 5 days apart, we plan a family outing (just my family and my sister's, since we're all we have left now) and we go to an apple orchard. We spend a nice day out in the fresh air, take a hay ride, pet the animals, pick some apples and usually buy one loaf of fresh-baked bread. OH! and we take LOTS of pictures :) Then, we go back to my sister's and dig in to a huge crockpot full of turkey chili. It's a really inexpensive day for us but we have SUCH a good time. It's not about the money -- just about having a bit of fun together :)
I hope for you that you can find something to do (taking the baby for a walk in a favorite place, having a picnic or a stop for a popsicle or an ice cream cone, playing "tourist in your own town" for the afternoon, etc.) that will get you out of the house and enjoying life :) I mean, celebrating life is really what birthdays are about, right? All good wishes to you for the coming year!

Hi lecanis..
Ahh.. Come on Cheer up... rejoice.. my friend. Why u feel so sad and upset.... Why do feel that your not with your friends.. Look we are all here.. look at how many wishes are pouring to you..
But perhaps, there must be some dumb feeling in you, which you cant express..i mean, you.. yourself cant find what caused you to this upset.
It is quite natural.. perhaps i often feel like that.. and get cheered up, through some of my friends..
My Sincere prayers are to you, and God must give strength and fitness to overcome the physical ailments and Peace in your life..
Enjoy the time with your family members.. Happy Birth day again..
Happy birthday to lecanis.. Happy Birthday to lecanis...

Happy Birthday! I used to hate my birthdays because I would think of how many more years until I die. I know depressing but I used to think like that. But now I love my birthdays. I look at it as a day to just have fun. This year I took all the kids out of school and drove the hour and a half away to see the last Priates movie. We had fun and that's what its all about. Sorry to hear you got no money to do anything expensive but try to find something you can do that doesn't cost nothing to just enjoy yourself. Even if it is a pampering day in the tub. Hope you enjoy your day! Vicki

That's a good point, I have something to be very happy about! My son hasn't had any more seizures, though he's been a bit lethargic from his medicine. Still I'm hoping he's feeling up to the whole family going out to play for a bit tomorrow, me and him and my hubby. =)
Thanks so much!

Thanks for your response! Yup, lately all our money goes to the baby first and health stuff as well, and since I haven't worked in a few months because of illness, it's getting really tight.
You're right though, celebrating with loved ones is awesome no matter what you do! Thanks!

It's your birthday and it's not selfish to wish something special for it. Don't be sad cause you have a lot of things you can do at home, like cooking a good meal for you and your family then watch a nice movie, or just reading a simple card and present would b nice too. You don't need a big party just to celebrate a birthday and be happy. YOu can celebrate it anyway you want it. the simple the better. What count most is the thought of having your friends and family with you on your special day. Have a wonderful birthday lecanis. :)

No you are not selfish to want something a little special for your birthday, money wise it is sad that you are are brok but in other ways you are very rich, you could have something a little special at home with your family after all that is the best thing you could ever have...Have a very happy birthday, if you lived in Melbourne Australia I would take you to McDonalds....:)

VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Sugar at my age I know longer even like to see the date on the calendar. In fact I have been thinking about writing my congress man, and insisting that there should be legislation to remove that date all together. The date is evil and should be abolished!
If I were you, I would tell my husband and friends that as soon as the financial restraints have eased up, you are going to celebrate your birth in a grand manner. Make it a goal. I have often had to push one of my boys birthday celebrations to a different time because of money. I know its not the date of your birthday but it is still worth doing something special.

"looking around for Nana"s fly swatter" LMAO
Lecanis, take a real good look at Dustin today, because tomorrow he will be 13. Then next week he will be graduating. Rest assured my sweet Friend you will be this old and sooner then you know it. Then you will be yelling at me when I am feeble and arthritic asking me why I did not talk to that congressman after all. Why I did not fight harder for that legislation to remove evil days!
Very Very happy Birthday. I hope your day is filled with love and blessings. Heck I would call ya myself if I had your phone number! Much love and kisses to you this very special of all days!

Thank you!!! You're so sweet!
It did turn out much better than I thought it would. My husband bought me a cake and a few small presents that I was really happy about, and I got lots of hugs from my little boy, and even shared my cake with him. =P
And one of my really good friends called me too, so I was happy. =)

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you happy birthday dear lecanis, happy birthday to you. I will give you a party.
Do you have the ingredientes to make a cake? Do you have any thing in your kitcher to cook somthing special? Your husband can also do somthing special for your like take Dustin for you for a few hours so you can take a walk, take a uninterupeted bath. Something special like that. LOL
Just because you are broke does not mean you cannot have a party it means you cannot get gifts.
My twin and I use to get shitt for gifts but our older sister always got what ever she wanted for her birthday. We never liked our b-days either. I know where you are comming from when you say did had nothing to look forward to. We where lucky we did not get a kick in the pants that day.
Oh well we are out of that. Our Birthday is coming up in two months so I will let you know if we are broke by then.
Happy bday again.

I have never been big on parties. Last year I worked on my birthday. Im too shy. I think if you had money it would be cool but if I were you I would just rent a movie and have your husband make some yummy food for you. In my family you get to pick whatever you want for dinner.

Haha, now I kind of wish this discussion hadn't gotten bumped up, since my birthday is waaay over now. *giggles*
I've never really had birthday celebrations, even as a kid, which I think is why every year I think about it. Never do wind up doing it. =p
