beep. im not talking about temptations of the flesh. LOL i just wanna talk about personal temptations like eating food that is bad for you or just eating too much, buying too much than your wallet can or buying things that you dont really need, seeing huge money on the streets dropped by someone.. personal temptations like that... when im faced with those kind of situations i always summon 100% of my will power to do the right thing. ^__^ and i also imagine what could be the outcome if i give in to those kind of temptations. of course the outcome will always be bad even if we get some sort of pleasure or joy from it. it will always boil down into something negative so i do my best to control myself and just do the right thing. how about you?

Me, I am used to fight my temptation with ice cream before. When i was in highschool, every time before going home i used to eat ice cream. I love ice cream very much. But when i experience to lost in a singing contest,i have big regret and i put the blame on ice cream. So now,i learned my lesson, i dont have to temp to eat ice cream coz i eat ice cream in a occasion and not everyday.

Hi!secretbear! It really is hard to avoid temptations. I have a difficult time in budgeting my money most especially if I want something from the mall. What I do is I ask myself first If I really need that object at the moment what will happen if I bought it now? Those are the questions that I ask myself before buying so I wont be tempted.

I always ask myself that too when I'm tempted to buy something out of whim. ^__^ if its too expensive and I think it wouldn't be much of a use to me, I don't buy it. but if its very cheap, like it wont hurt my pocket that much, I would buy it. LOL

Unfortunately, I'm not that much into spending because I don't usually carry money in the first place!LoL I only buy what I can, because I prefer to spend my money on something more worth and useful. As for food, I am good to what is served infront of me and what I can afford to buy. For me, I always think of others before thinking of myself. I wouldn't consider a money that I didn't worked hard for, I may look like a goon but I still have conscience when dealing with things that are not mine!;)LoL As the saying goes, "honesty is the best policy." =)

a goon with lots of self-control. that's raijin for you! i do something like that drannhh. when shopping, i would only bring money enough for what i have to buy. so that i wouldn't have any extra for any un-"wanted" stuffs.

Not carrying money is a good way not to spend it! Sometimes when I go shopping I leave my wallet locked in the truck of the car. That way I have to look carefully at what I want to buy and ask myself if it is worth the trouble of going all the way out to the car to get the money and then buy it. Sometimes it is and sometimes it isn't!

Hi Being honest, I am totally useless at avoiding temptations but then I find I have much better results when I buy on impulse. For instance if I need to get an outfit I can shop for days without finding ANYTHING i LIKE YET, IF i SEE SOMETHING i LOVE AND BUY IT i THEN ALREADY HAVE THE OUTFIT i NEED IN MY WARDROBE. tHE WAY i DO THINGS IS i TRY NOT TO OVERDO ANYTHING. i THINK THE KEY TO LIFE IS BALANCE - IT IS EASY AND SIMPLE PHILOSOPHY. Too much of anything is bad for you and too little is obviously not enough so, if you balance things out you will usually be ok in the long run. Denise

hi denise! i agree when you said that too much of anything is bad for everybody. we need to have balance in our life. i am also guilty of impulse buying at times but then, after i have bought that, all the reason i have to not buy again in the near future.

hi subha! maybe you can use drannhh's way of dealing with temptations. just look above and read her response. it is really interesting. you'd draw a big T and in each side you put the disadvantage and disadvantage of the thing you want to do. and you're gonna weigh which side would be more important. that way you would clearly see what you should do.

I can resist everything ..................... except temptation - LOL I do try to resist but sometimes now I am on a losing streak and give in eventually

Normally I don't put that stuff in my house that I know is bad for me and I shouldn't eat. That way I don't get tempted hahaha! Sometimes though, it doesn't hurt to indulge a little. So you won't want it so badly.

hi mamasan! indeed, prevention is better than cure. if that's the right saying for it. its better to avoid tempting oneself than to stop myself from giving into temptations.

I write down the advantages and disadvantages of each temptation on paper. First I draw a big T on a sheet of paper: T On top I write what is is I want to do. For example, I wanted to take a week-long trip to nearby Oak Creek Canyon this fall to see the autumn leaves and take a scenic train ride. So above my "T" I wrote "Trip to Canyon" and below on the left side, I listed all the reasons I wanted to go: --ride train --see Fall Colors --eat nice restaurants --art galleries nearby --a change of pace On the other side of my "T" I wrote all of the reasons it might not be a good idea to go: --mosquitoes? --just got back from other vacation --friends planning to visit us at home --lots of work to plan another trip --colder in the canyon (would have to buy/pack clothes) Then I drew a circle around the scariest thing on the right-hand list: Mosquitoes! Where we live there are no mosquitoes but we read in the newspaper that in some of the more isolated areas they were becoming a problem. I asked myself if another fun trip was worth taking the chance of getting bitten by diseased mosquitoes, and decided to at least postpone this trip. Writing it all out helped me make the decision objectively and next fall, I can make another T and another decision. By then, maybe they will have the mosquitoes under control.

that's a really creative and interesting way in dealing with temptations drannhh. that way, you'd clearly see the advantages and disadvantages and weigh them to see which would be most beneficial and most proper. really interesting way. i might do this as well, but only in my mind.

I honestly don't think I have that many temptations and if I do like, for eating food...it's so few and far between that it's not like it's really bad. Not to mention I don't really eat anything or have temptations for anything bad. I guess my biggest temptation is DVD's. I kinda buy them a lot. But I'm an impulse shopper...so if the impuls doesn't hit me I don't have to buy stuff, I usually only buy stuff I really really want or sales will tempt me. and again it's not really so bad that i'm broke because of it. Nor is it a daily or even weekly temptation. So it's not a problem for me.

hi raychill! i guess you're lucky that you don't get any problems with tempting food. dvds also tempt me. but most of the time i get to control myself because it can really empty my wallet.

Hi secretbear, I'm afraid I usually give in to the temptation. I love chocolate, for example, and if it's in the house, I'm munching. I also eat too much most of the time. Guess I'll have to work on that. Blessings.

Its a lot of discipline and effort. Truthfully my negative side handles all of these things. I like how strict that voice can be. Won't let me cheat on nutrition or physical regiments or work. Its quite nice.

oh... temptation, like being in the net the first thing in the morning when you wake and being tempted to stay there forever? LOL... I was supposed to say run... but yes, I guess that is a good way to do, run away from temptations. Run away from food you are not supposed to eat, run away from the malls and market place where you see all the fine things you want to buy... lol... I think I should run away from my computer, What do you think?

run away from computer? that's like running away from earning money! LOL well, if you have a main job and myLot is like your sideline and it messes with your main job, then I guess you better run away from your pc. ^__^ and also if you don't do anything except myLot and myLot forever, I am telling you to run away from your computer once in a while to take a bath and do your household chores! LOL I guess myLot is not just a temptation anymore from you, its an addiction! and we both better go to rehab! LOL

it is difficult for me to avoid temptations that you said. i had never saved money before, and i had extra money for something which i like. but now i quit my job,and i can't earn enough money online, then i have to save money for my living. it is a hard time for me, but i have to pass it. i dont' often go shopping as usual. i spend too much time online everyday, then i have no free time to go shopping, so there are few temptations in front of me. and i think it is a good way to avoid temptations, if you can't control yourself. To make you busy, then there is no free time to go shopping.

why did you quit your job? its hard to find job these days. I know what you mean. staying at home is a good way to avoid temptations. you can't see anything at home aside from the tv, your family, the computer...but when you're in a mall, there are lots of temptations there. it would be really hard to avoid them. ^__^

It is really not easy to avoid temptations of many things, especially junk food temptation that we like. Sometimes I can avoid it when I have a sore throat, but once the sore throat is gone, I would go back eating some junk food that is so tasty to me though I know that it is bad. I am not a good controller at all. lol

LOL sometimes I can't avoid junk foods too! especially those tasty and crunchy chips! ^__^;; and there are times when I feel like eating salty foods and I would resort to junk foods. i'll just tell myself that i'd drink lots of water so I can easily excrete the unwanted substances. LOL

I am not good with it. I like to shop. And I know I need to stop but there is the perfect pair of jeans or perfect handbag or whatever and my willpower goes out the window. Food, oddly enough, I have no trouble with. I know what I can and can't eat and I know what portions I should have and rarely screw up. But buying stuff? Yikes. I am trying hard but, if I see something that I like, it's a long internal struggle not to get it. I sometimes win and don't get it and often lose and do. I need to stay away from the temptation and have been trying to. Otherwise, I am doing OK with temptations. Just the dang shopping one is the one getting me in trouble.

LOL sometimes I can't turn my back too on a very cute shirt. ^__^;; I also have a good discipline over food. I mean, those food that I'm allergic to. I can avoid them easily because I know ho hard it will be if I had an attack. but to chocolates and junk foods? its hard to turn them down. LOL
