Today I was able to take a shot of another huge cross spider, but this one is darker than the one that I took a few weeks ago in my garden. I shot many but this is the only one that I kept as the rest wasn't sharp enough. What do you think - good enough for a competition?

whoa!!! this time a better picture compare to your previous cross spider. More colorful on its leg; yellow, orange, red and black. And a clear picture of web in the making, look a real natural or candid.
For competition, need some edit job. Setting the contract and picture 'hue' level', make it more real looking and the name of that particular spider for its fond and scientific name, date, time, location, and don't forget the name of the photographer.....Definitely in a row of 1 to 3.!!!!

Thanks for your suggestions Micheal ;) I havent ever entered any competition and was wondering what it would take as I have so many photos taken. I am not good at tweaking photos with PhotoShop, never done it, nor do I have the time to learn it really. Thanks a lot for your help

Hi Elic, you shouldnt be afraid really as these type of spiders are more afraid of us than we are of them ;) and they do not jump on humans

What an incredible picture! Bravo! Of course you should enter it in a competition! It is a very cool picture. Thanks for sharing it. Just how big is this spider? I hope this was a really close up picture!

Thank you Estherlou :) The spider's body is around 1 inch without the legs, and it's pretty big really. Due to the soft winter last year the spiders are a lot this year, and I guess not only here but everywhere?

I had to look at this because even though I am quite scared of spiders, I am faxcinated by their webs.
This is a great shot, very close. I would say it is definitely good enough to enter in competiotions.
Is this spider called a Cross Spider? I have not heard of them.
I rated your photo & wrote a comment.

Thanks Jenny for your nice words, and for your comment and the rating of the photo ;) Yes, cross spider is the name, and I've seen a lot here in Europe, although they could be from light beige up to black colored and with diffrent sizes too. Check the URL link that I have in the answer of the 1st responce and you could see the photo in much bigger size.

Don't pay attention to that one posters comment..yikes..probably just a wise-a$$...I think the photo is great! I happen to love spiders and have no fear of them...in fact, a saying my great-grandmother used to say was that it was bad luck to kill a spider...so to this day I don't! LOL...In fact I have a few lurking around in my kitchen...they're small ones--Believe it or not I'll even "rescue" them...If a spider falls accidentally into the sink and is about to drown itself I scoop it up carefully and place it in one of my plants...LOL Am I daft or what??

I saved a few from my sink like you did, so somewhere, something other than The Secret makes us simillar - how nice is this ;)

Hi Ian, do you care to explain why you think so?
You should maybe take a look on the real size photo on Flickr: http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=1415325120&size=o&context=set-72157601982111871
and tell me what is it that is not good enough ;)
Thanks
