When your alone in your house or apartment do you lock your doors? Even if its day time? I must say I do because Ive only lived here 3 or 4 monthes and Im not sure. It seems very safe but I dont want to take any chances. Not with all the crazyness going on.I think its better to be safe then sorry dont you?

I do now because the Door is at the other side of the Flat so it would be to late for me to hear that someone is in the Flat
But when it is really warm I have the Door open and Gissi lies there
But otherwise it is locked at all times as I feel safer that way

We lock our doors at night and when we are away from home. We also have alert a neighbor when we are going away so they may keep a watch on the place.

Yes I always lock my door even if it is early in the morning. I just keep the window open so that people outside can easily call me inside if they will be needing something. I guess there is nothing wrong by being very careful, with the kind of environment we have now. I cant just leave my children's life into chances...chances that something bad will not happen. As much as possible I want to ensure their safety. So I guess you are not wrong in taking extra care.

I know when we were kids we never locked our doors and we would sleep with our windows wide open in summer today, I lock my doors all the time, and I always have my windows open but only the the windows with security grills, I have been robbed twice and it has put me in a state that I automatically lock the security doors without even knowing I am doing it, even when I am home, it i sad you have to do this but as happened to a neighbour who was weeding her garden in the front yard a neighbours teenage boy climbed over her back fence and robbed her house it is a sad sad world today...

Yes, I do. Unless for some reason I was rushed coming in and then forgot to lock the doors. I usually notice it though about an hour after I'm home. I grew up in a very tough neighborhood. My dad is a pastor and that is where he went to preach. Drive by shootings down the street are hard to forget. So even though I'm a long way from that place, old habits, especially good habits, die hard.

Maybe I watch too many crime shows, but I don't trust the world today. I have always locked my doors whether or not I am home. And now that I have an infant son, I am almost fanatical about it. I don't have worries about germs, or animals, or forces of natures, but I will protect my home and everything the term "home" embodies (safety, love, comfort, etc.) as securely as I can.

Hi TerryZ,
At night I always lock my door, but not so much during the day. The only time I lock my door during the day is when I go and have a shower. We have lived in this area for quite a while so I'm not worried about someone just waltzing in. Take Care Hun!

I got into the habit of locking my doors regardless after there was a spate of break-ins in the neighbourhood. Now it has become a habit and although I sometimes think I might be a little over-cautious it does no harm to be secure

I have a main door and a grill door. I lock the grill door so that I can have ventilation and also safety.

I lock my doors day and night. It is a force of habit. I lock the deadbolt, as the regular lock is junk. For that matter, so is the door knob. I know the door is SHUT when the door is locked.

I don't live in the best of neighborhoods. It isn't the worst, it's just not the best. Like you, I say, why take chances?

Yes. Definitely I lock my door. In fact, after I open the door and step inside the house.. the first thing that I think of doing is to lock the door. It is already a practice in our family that no matter what happens, we should not forget to lock the doors. It's just important. Especially to those living in an apartment, etc.. just like my family. It is to protect our belongings from robbers who are just lurking around and waiting for their chance to strike and barge in to our houses..
That is why, locking the door is important and should really be done.

The only doors I usually have open are the conservatory doors, (In the nice weather) but lately I have been locking them if I am in doors on my open especially if I am upstairs doing housework or in the bath or shower. There is this old lady over the road to me and she was in the back garden weeding and someone came in to her house and had her valuables away! It made me think twice.
