Why? And have you switched allegiance and why?

I don't think anyone should vote straight party lines. I think you should only vote for candidates you actually believe in. Party politics is destroying our government. Why can't ppeople take the time to make up their own minds, and not let political parties decide who is better for them.

I hate Fox news, they are the MOST biased editorialists ever!

Oh, they are aren't they? I cannot even stomach Bill O'Reilly anymore. And speaking of biased, not to mention distasteful and arrogant to the extreme, what about Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity? They, too, make my skin crawl!

People don't take the time because people don't think for themselves on much anymore. They watch Fox or CNN and have ready-made opinions spewed at them, and they simply agree. Neither one of those news channels offers unbiased reporting, and I think it's criminal.

I'm going to vote for whoever I feel the best candidate is. Regardless of political party.

I think that is a great answer! It is the way I usually vote, too. But I'm also curious to know how many people have sworn off one party or the other since G.B. went into office. The polarity between the two parties is the widest I've ever seen it, bar none, ever. I think the republicans have made so many disastrous and unethical mistakes since G.B. took office that it will be a long time before I trust another republican in office again.

U usually vote republican, and will be doing so this election, because they are usually more intune with my ideals on the issues that are most imporant for me. I do not agree with the republican party stances in abortion or gay marriage because it should be a nonissue the govement has no buisness there. However, those are not my priorities.

May I ask what are your priorities? I am very curious to know just how far apart Republican and Democrat priorities are right now. I for one would simply like to do away with both parties, and try to work together as an entire country, instead of of being completely divided as I see us now. It is a shame. And I agree with you on abortion and gay marriage. They should not even be a blip on the government's radar, unless we'd like to convert to communism, which I believe Bush would like for us to become by all the totalitarian decisions he's made while in office.

My priorities are less govement especially less centeralized goverment in everything but defense and immigration (something else I disagree with bush in paticular about but most republicans I do agree with). Less welfare, lower taxes, and a market system. Social Security is in need of a major overhaul as well.I also don't think we need to get rid of the republican or democratic parties ( I don't feel there is a great divide at all) but I wish the republicans would go back to there true conservative values before the party was taken over by the religous right in the 80's.

I try to vote for the best candidate regardless of party affiliation. What's comical is that most people think of me as a raving liberal, but when it comes to voting, I end up voting more Republican, primarly due to my financial concerns. However, these days I have such issues with both parties' platforms on various issues that it is quite the struggle to figure out how to vote. But I still vote.

I used to always vote Republican but in this presidential administration, Republicans and Democrats alike are horrible models for example to this nation. In my local elections I voted Independent for Governor and republican for most other posts, after researching each of those lower offices, there isn't as much sneakiness so I was able to pick between them a bit easier.

It is awful isn't, that our choices are so few? I know we keep saying it over and over again all over this site, but something must be done to save our system. It is dysfunctional at best. I keep predicting that Barak Obama and John McCain will be the presidential nominees, and I'd love it if they'd drop their party designations and just got at it in very deep and meaningful public debates. And I would support either of them, though McCain has the most experience, but is also very mired in politics as usual.
