i am not exactly at my healthy weight but i was wondering if anyone else is concerned about the extreme rise of obesity amopng children today? i try my hardest to make sure that my one year old eats healthy and eats meals not just fast food and french fries which she does love. yes it is so easy to do this but you know i can have dinner made in half an hour and its healthier than fast food. there is already too much emphasis on weight today and i do not want my daughter growing up worried about her weight bc i was too lazy to make her dinner. yes i have worked and know that alot of times it is easier to just pick something up but i have found a way to help eliminate that. when i make big dinners i plate it up and freeze it so when we are very short on time she still has a good home cooked meal. i was just looking for anyones opinion on this to see if i am the onyl worried about raising a couch potato

I think you are taking initiative by researching this problem and by trying to take an active parenting role in helping your child maintain a healthy weight. I'd say for your daughter that you encourage active time outdoors and as she gets older help her discover easy ways to stay healthy. I see so many obese people around my campus here and it disturbs me, not so much that they are overweight but because I see them this way and yet their standing there waiting for the elevator eating fast food, fries and soda! If anything teach your daughter that little steps throughout her life can help her stay healthy, this way you won't be encouraging a stick thin model mentality, rather a way to be healthier and thus happier. The little things make the difference, taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking instead of driving short distance, moving away from the TV, limiting fast food and mixing up one's diet.

Hi, I too have a concern regarding obesity and junk food in children. I always cook meals at home so that my 3 year old can have healthy food. But when you go out its difficullt to avoid junk food specially soft drinks. Kids just love the machine drinks! I try to avoid taking my child where there is machine with soft drinks!

I think you are a responsible mother. But i think you needn't to be too worried about obesity. if you pay attention to your diet and have enough exercises. you will be healthy. if you're healthy weather you are fat or not ,that's ok. I think you needn't to lose weight.Do you agree with me?
