Are You Good at Math?

Are you good at math? Can you quickly calculate something in your head? Or do you use a calculator every time when you do your calculation?
For me, I am not good at math and indeed it was the worst subject for me when I was back in school. I can calculate simple stuff inside my head (but I am slow *laughs*), but I usually use my calculator whenever I can. My dad is really good at math though and I wonder why I didn't get his gene!

I am not a Math-person either. I only managed to get good score in primary, but not highschool and college. Just felt the math concepts are getting harder and complicated. Thus not scoring well. Same here, I can only calculate simple stuff on head, beyond that? calculator is a must. Just wonder if my math skill is still at highschool level..haha :) I am definitely picking up my mom's gene as her math is also not very good.

*laughs* I was very lucky that I studied a subject in college which require absolutely no math skill and that was the time I felt the happiest time ever in my life.

When I went to school, we didn't use calculators during class. I can remember having these timed tests for math facts when I was in the fourth grade. They were die-cut sheets that you placed over your paper and the teacher held a stop watch. On your mark, get set. GO! We had to complete as many addition, subtraction, multiplication or division facts in one minute. My hand would freeze when she said go. Once I got over that, I did really well. I was lucky to have terrific math teachers. That is so important. If you don't have a teacher that really explains the concepts, you can get lost or overwhelmed very easily.
Usually the "experts" say that if you like the creative arts, you use one side of your brain and if you like math and science, you use the other.

Both of my brain sides seem to die though *laughs*, I love art more but I am definitely not that creative, at least I don't see I am *smiles*.

I'm excellent in math but not performing calculations in my head. However, I knew a woman who could both remember and add up long lists of numbers in her head, while remaining clueless about the theoretical aspects of arithmetic. For instance, she could not wrap her brain around a quadratic equation or a theorem. Go figure.

Wow I am sure your friend is really good! My dad is like that too! But I just don't pick up his gene for some reason!

Hehe, this is really good discussion. You remeber me my school life.I was really bad in math, probably one of the worst in the class.Bt you know what is interresting I can calculate pretty good from my head and fast too.I just guess some stuff in math I cannot understand so fast like other people and I didn't take my time in high school to do it or we just had a bad teacher.

Oh I always blame my bad math teachers in high school for my worse calculation, thanks to him, I totally lost interest in this subject!

During my school days, I was known to be the best in every area of Mathematics - Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, but not so much in Calculus. My favorite is Algebra. In fact, until now I got students whom I tutor Algebra. And I'm very glad I still remember those things, I'm earning money from it now.

I'm pretty bad at math. I don't know all my times tables as well as I should. I know most of them and then I add up or down from the ones that I do know to get the answer I'm looking for.
I'm okay at figuring out word problems. I can help my children figure those out when they have to do it for homework or for myself if I have something to figure out. But, I try to avoid it when I can because I just don't like it.
I'm not sure if it is because I don't have that "math gene" or if its just because I'm somewhat lazy and since it didn't come easy I just don't bother with it, unless it is absolutely necessary.
I know enough to function in ever day life, but I don't get much further than that.

You know what, there isnt really a thing such as good in math... Its just when you love something you get to learn it very well. but when you just hate it everytime, nothing comes into your head. well thats the secret why I am an engineer. loving something is hard, but it pays...

Eversince I am not good in numbers, I hate them and I get totally dumb whenever calculations are the subject. This is the only weakness I see in me, when I was still studying. I can be good on everything but not at subjects that tackles about computations and numbers' solving.
The only branch that I can relate on math is trigonometry, and other than that, I am as stupid as a rat!LoL

hello wondericequeen;)I wouldn't say I'm good at Math cos that would be blowing my own horn but I'd say I'm OK at Maths and I can quickly calculate something in my head.I was actually popular for that in school. But I think it's a lil rusty up there since I've left school ages ago.

I don't think the ability of calculate is not the sign about good or bad at math.

Only a bit. i'm also a bit slow in calculating but I'm better than my other classmates. Some of them praise me saying that I'm so good in mtah, but in myself, I'm ot that good.(My parents are not good in math, why am I?)
