I make sure that i memorize my moms phone number..not minding other contacts...thats for me to contact my mom in case of emergency and i dont have my phone with me. Its become a rule in the family when all these cellphones started.
There was one time when im out and my cellphone ran out of battery, and there emergency that i need to contact home, but dont know how because my cellphone doesnt turns on anymore, that i have to ask someone in the public to have my sim card inserted in their cellphone..but with all the crimes going on around, there are people that dont just trust those acts right away and some will think that its more on hoax..from then on, i make sure to memorize my moms phone number and make sure also to leave home with phone fully charged....
what about you??? do memorize numbers in your mobile phones...

I was able to memorize the cell number of my husband since it's almost the same number as mine except for the last digit. hehehehe.
But as for other people's number.. na-ah... I know if I worked on it I would be able to memorize even one of the numbers but I know that I'll forget it again coz it wouldn't be used too much since I can just input the name of my friend and I can contact them without actuallly touching on the numbers... or something to that effect...

yeah, more often then not, we tend to search for names and not the numbers on our cellphone and dial it, when sending msg on the other hand, we also send it to names listed and not through numbers..thats the reason even we send them text msg everyday, we still cant memorize their numbers.

From your story I know that how essential to memorize certain important contact numbers which are to be used during the emergency. To me these essential contact numbers are quite meaningful and so they could be remembered without any difficulties.

I know my fiance's cell phone number and our home phone number, and the phone number for one other friend (though she lives 2,000 miles away from me). Other than that, though, I never bother to learn phone numbers anymore. I just put them into my cell phone and leave them there.

i guess a lot of us dont mind memorizing other people phone number as long as it is stored in our mobile phone..what we only memorize by heart is people important to us..

I do remember the number for my mum, brothers and sisters, and a brother-in-law. I used to memorize these numbers even before cellphones were commonplace. I must admit though I can't remember the rest of the numbers in my cellphone, but then I keep some of these in my PC too, so I have a backup.

I memorize my sister's celphone number, just in case I lost my celphone, or something of an emergency arrives, at least I have someone from my family to inform to. Its not my habit of listing down all the numbers in my phonebook...chances are, I would only lost the list hehehe

Hi Daryljane. Well, basically I able to remember all my family members' phone and also some of my close friend's. However, the main problem that faced by me will be - I failed to remember my phone number. ;p

I grew up in the days before cell phones. I memorize all important numbers. I have many phone numbers memorized. I would have a hard time if I had to rely on cell phones. It makes your brain work better to do things like memorizing.

There are only a handful of numbers that I know off by heart and those include my husband's mobile, my home number, my parents home number (as they never actually switch on their mobile except for outgoing calls) and my brother's mobile number. There are a few more of my friend's numbers that I do know by memory but not sure whose numbers they are so I wouldn't ring them in case I call someone I don't need to speak with. Before I had a mobile phone, I had this knack of remembering people's home, office and mobile numbers. Now I can count on one hand how many numbers I have memorised. Technology dulls the brain LOL!
On a more serious note, I make sure my phone is charged pretty much every night, many people say it's not good for the battery life but I tend to change my phone every year or so usually but this particular one I've had for nearly 2 years and there is no indication that the battery life is getting shorter :)

Dear daryljane, before cell phone coming into market I used to memorise more than 22 numbers; this includes family members phone and important office numbers. When I started using mobile phone, I have to remember only 3 important numbers i.e. my house landline number, my wife and daughter's cell phone number though they are recorded in my cell phone. I have more than 100 numbers in my cell phone. I do not remember not a single number. That is advantage of cell phone.
