...You're cooking and you need to go to the toilet... What do you do?

I was cooking dinner earlier, and suddenly I realised that I was busting to go to the toilet.
Fortunately I was only chopping ingredients, so there was no risk of things burning or anything.
But it made me wonder what I would have done if I were home alone with something on the stove - could I leave it there, cooking and un-stirred while I rushed to the toilet, or would I have to take it off the stove until I get back, or just hold it in until I had finished cooking?
Have you been in this situation? What did you do?
What do you think you'd do if this happened?
=D

Its never happened to me. Even then I'd usually take care of such business beforehand. If it did happen, its usually #1 and I can take care of that fast. If its during prep time then its all good. If its during hands on cooking I'd just cut the heat a bit, take care of what needs to be done and then resume.

I usually get it all out of the way beforehand too, but at the moment I think my body and brain aren't quite connecting, it's only when I'm busting that it occurs to me to go to the toilet =P
I think everyone must think I need a few minutes to pee - they're all like "it only takes a few seconds". Correct, but this house is large and the distance between the kitchen and toilet is somewhat long and windy, with such obstacles as walls, doors, bookshelves and the like. Not ideal for a quick dash to the loo.
lol.
How've you been, anyway?
It's always a pleasure to 'see' you. =D

Hi, Malyck!
I have an electric stove too, but turning it off for just a minute or two while we pee won't really turn it cold, will it? Once I had to pee while making some pancake...so I turned the burner mark's setting to VERY low and I ran to the toilet and peed as fast as I could hi hi hi hi...gladly it went fine. However, if the pancake was almost done already, I'd have turned it off completely and take the pan off the stove. ;-D

Ah...yeah, it sucks when you have to wait a while before it boils again. I understand. Esp. when you're busy and you have lots of other things to do he he...

this is a very interesting discussion... i usually just leave it on the stove and set the burner at the lowest while i go and pee quickly... but if i have to go for a longer time, i will turn off the stove completely and turn it on again when i come back... i rather be safe than sorry... :-0

I'm paranoid - I turn it all off. Or appoint someone the official stirrer while I'm gone.

Personally I would turn the stove off so as not to add additional pressure to the scenario! I've been in this situation more than once and it's way more relaxing to void without the worry of burning the house down.
I'd like to share a kitchen/toilet story with you that your discussion retrieved from my memory. When my daughter was a toddler she always took a dump during the middle of dinner. She was too young at the time to properly wipe herself and I'd eat as fast as I could while she was on the pot. Without fail I'd hear her shout "Mommy, help me give me some toilet paper!" And without fail, dinner was over for me.

Sounds like the sensible thing to do when something's already cooking.
It was much easier when I had a gas stove, because the heat would be back again instantly.
Now I am on electric, and it is such a pain to wait for the hot plate to heat back up, so I'd be more likely to hold it in =P

Turning off the burner and keeping the cooking for hold is the wisest option but I have seen my mom keeping the burner on and managing somehow. when I ask why she doesn't turn it off, she would retort that she knows how long both will take. lol..

I get this thing often ...and specially when I am cooking!! huh! lol
My mother says working with fire mostly gets you to got to pee. May be its a myth..but I always get it whenever I am cooking. May be my mother's words are comming true!!
whenever I get this kind of situation I mostly get someone else to look after the food....for some time..so that to watch it from getting burned!! If possible I trun the stove to low flame or the last option is I turn it off..!!
NO other options..!!

I think in this kind of situation, I will have to but switch off the burner and will have to resume cooking after my return from toilet. Because, I cannot anticipate how much exact time would be spent in the toilet, so I would not like to take chance with my vegetables or dish being getting spoilt due to excessive heating.

well, i'll turn off the stove before i will go to the toilet. But that will still depends om what i'm cooking and on what state i am now with the cooking... if i think it's safe to leave it for awhile then i will not turn the stove off otherwise if it is risky, then i'll turn it off. it's just a matter of assessing the situation..

this has happened to me numerous times... and its simple just depending on the dish... can i afford to chance to leave it simmering? if so then i do after all i just gotta pee how long can that take??? lol
usually if i odnt want to take that chance... ill either turn down the heat to a low simmer or ill just shut off the burner until i return... other wise if its something thats no biggie if i leva it cooking while im peeing for longer then 5 seconds hten i will just leave it...
