This past weekend, it got a little cool in Shreveport, so his wife tried to use the heater for the first time. It didn't work! She called the company that installed it and they sent out the weekend repair guy. He couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work! Now they will probably have to send out an electrician to see if something was wired wrong, or installed wrong or whatever. Doesn't that just take the cake!

What kind of a place installs things like heaters and then doesn't test them to make sure they work?
Even if it was the middle of a hot summer they should have been able to do that.
I hope this company is going to take care of the expenses for this.

My daughter-inlaw Sharon is pretty outspoken. If they don't do this for free, since it is the company's mess-up, I'm sure she will have plenty to say about it to them! LOL

That doesn't make a bit of sense because my dad, brother and husband are heating and A/C repair guys and installers and never had one that they installed that didn't work to the point of calling an electrian. Why would they? I mean, they're the installers so THEY should know how to install it correctly or have someone of the same company to look at it, not an electrian. The installers should be able to figure it out and if not them then one of the more experienced installers should or it's the machine itself that's faulty. I may be wrong but it sounds like someone is trying to push off the blame. I wouldn't sit still for it.

Meanwhile I bet they pile on the sweaters, and add a blanket or two to the bed. I would think that whoever installed the new unit would have tested it before leaving, at any rate. That would be logical. I guess they could not do that. There must be some secret, hidden clause that states that all service persons and installers will under no circumstance use common sense and be proactive, testing their work and the installed equipment before leaving for the day. I hope that your son and daughter in law find ways to be warm while the whole process gets done over.

All this could have been avoided if they hired an experienced professional electrician to do the job. If you have not taken a course in electricity, you should not install a heater. It could also be that the house did not have enough power to support a new heater. So he may have to put another circuit breaker in the box.

My son didn't do any of the work...it was the company they bought the heater from who did the work. We'll see what happens.

I guess I wasn't clear. It is the central heating unit for the house that they replaced.

Heating and Air units are definitely not cheap, whether to be repaired or to be replaced. At some point I will need to replace my heating unit as well though right now it is still working fine. I am sorry to hear that your son and his wife had problems with their unit. Some of these repair people are just clueless.

At least his didn't work. When we had our gas furnace installed in a moblie home we used to live in, it caught on fire 1st time I turned it on. Thankfully the fire was contained in it's cabinet but we sure had a mess from the chemicals the fire extinglishers made cause the furnace proceeded to spread it thruout the house thru the vents b4 we could shut it off. Had the fire department out there and everything. The cause...too much oil was used to lubercate when they were putting it together in the factory, therefore, it caught on fire. Melted the manual switch that was mounted to it beyond use.

You mean the people who installed it didn't even take it for a test run to make sure it was going to work properly.
I am in need of a new furnace, but I can't afford it. I had to heat with space heaters last winter and it looks like that is what I am going to have to do again this year, and I live in Indiana. It got pretty cold last winter in the house. I try just to heat the rooms that have water lines and the rooms that I use.

Hi estherlou! Gosh, that is a real disappointment. Having to shell out $2500 for something that does not work? But probably, it was just not correctly installed. I hope it will be resolved soon because winter is fast approaching. Take care and have a nice day.
