Growing up my favorite sandwich was always a fried bologna. But some of my friends would look at me like I was down right crazy. They would turn thier nose up at it. I never understood why and still don't. A fried bologna sandwich is not much different than having a grilled hotdog. They are both made out of very similar things. They are just shaped differently. I have even stated this to some people yet they still think it's gross. Why??? So have you ever had one? What do you think about them? I would even like to hear from those that have never had them. Why not?? Do you think they are gross? Please share your thoughts!

I would be interested to see where the people who like fried bologne lived. I never heard of it UNTIL I met my husband who is from New Jersey and that seems to be a big stable in there diet up there lol. I do like the taste of it! Maybe it is a regional thing? I grew up mostly in the midwest or southern states.

I don't think it is regional thing or northern thing. Both my family and I are from the south and we all grew up on these sandwiches.

They are ok, but nothing I want to eat very often. We have a restaurant in a neighboring town that is known for their fried bologna. People travel for miles to eat there. Not me. I don't think it is that great.

Fried Bologna Sandwiches!!!! We just had some for supper tonight!! We love them!!! We also slice hotdogs and fry them too. I was raised on fried bolgana. The blacker the better. My older granddaughter is 11 and she loves fried bologna. I buy bologna from Kroger when it is on sale for 10 packages for $10 and put it in the freezer. Then I do like I did today and take it out in the morning and let it thaw and it is read to make a small slit in the edge in three places so it won't bubble up in the middle and then YUMMY!!! fry away! We just love it. I am so glad to hear of others that love it too. I put mustard on my sandwich. Just thought I'd add that too. Have a blessed day.

Yes, I have had these before when I was growing up. Sorta reminds me of Spam. I don't like Spam. And not a big fan of hot dogs either. So, though I did eat them, they would be the last choice for me to eat.

Yes, I can see how fried bologna would remind you of spam. They are a little a like. Now I don't eat hotdogs all that much. But I do like spam. I slice it up and cook it in the oven, then put cheddar cheese on top of them. So, fried bologna would be your last choice, please share with us what is your favorite sandwich?

Well, keeping it in the similar category, such as hot sandwiches. I like fried egg sandwhiches, with cheese and a little mayo.

They are very yummy! If your grocery stores sell bologna then you can easily make a fried bologna sandwich. Just make sure you make little slits in the bologna or it will curl up when you fry it on the stove. After that you just add whatever else you might want on the sandwich and your done. For me I normally put mayo, american or cheddar cheese, and mustard.

When I was a kid and took this sandwich to school if I remember right it was considered poor people food. I would take deviled ham in my lunches too and was made fun of as being to poor to take things like fried chicken, but what the heck I liked deviled ham. It came in n such neat cans. I don't like it now because it is so salty. I also liked fried bologna sandwiches.

Never heard of fried bologna being called poor people food. Where were you raised, if you don't mind me asking? Of course I never took mine to school. This was always something my mom made fresh for us, because I like to eat them while they are still hot and the cheese is melted all over the sandwich.

I have never put chips on my fried bologna sandwiches, but I do put chips on other regular sandwiches that I make. I don't think it sounds gross. In fact I might just try it myself tomorrow.

I used to eat bologna sandwiches. I don't think it's gross, I just prefer ham. My husband hates bologna though and he says it's nasty. But I tell him that just because he thinks so doesn't make it true lol.

I practically grew upon fried baloney sandwiches and love them to this day. You're right about them being the same as a hot dog. I actually also love baloney sandwiches with cheese and mayo...yummy...

Your very welcome. That is how I came up with the topic. I was hungry and craving a fried bologna sandwich. So while I was frying it, it made me think about how all my friends when I was younger thought it was gross. So I was wondering who else ate them and if it was just me who had friends that thought they were gross.

Hi Speedy,
Ive only fried the balogna with the red strip around it that you have to peel off....althought Ive seen some people eat it....lol.
Your right, its just like a hotdog, if not with the same ingredients it sure does taste the same. I like mine with some toast and mustard, maybe some cheese if Im in the mood for it. Its not something that I do regularly but I have eaten them before.

Interesting combo for a sandwich! I am not big on lettuce but my son would probably eat it like crazy. I call him my little rabbit because he loves lettuce especially salads and he is only 5.

most of my friends think i am nut but my favorite sandwich is peanut butter mayo and bananas the mayo sounds like it does not fit but it actually goes quite nicely and helps keep the peanut butter from getting stuck to the roof of my mouth lol

LOL! OMG! Peanut butter and mayo is soooo good! Believe it or not I have had these too when I was a kid. I never had the banana on it because I don't like banana's. I am glad I am not the only wierd one who like peanut butter and mayo sandwiches. The first time I made one of these around my stepson, I swear he looked like he was going to puke. One just doesn't know what they are missing unless they try it. YUM YUM!!!

Fried bologna sandwiches are awesome. I love ketchup on my fried bologna sandwiches. Sometimes I even put onion on them. I only use white bread for my fried bologna sandwiches. I have been eating fried bologna sanchwiches since I was a child. They make a great lunch

My Dad used to make fried bologna sandwiches for us kids. We all loved them. We occasionally make them. My daughter refuses to eat them even though she eats hot dogs and cold bologna. I like mine with american cheese on it.

Isn't that funny how your daughter will eat hotdogs and cold bologna, yet won't eat fried bologna? Kids do make me wonder sometimes. They can be so funny and picky about what they eat. I too like american cheese on mine, and sometimes I will put the kraft cheddar slices on it as well.

My mom made these for me and my siblings growing up. She always put ketchup on them which I thought was disgusting. I like to eat mine with mustard only. I hate soggy bread, and ketchup always made the bread soggy. Yuck.

hi speedy,
And I thought I had a weird sandwich!! As a kid, I liked a fried egg and a slice of fried bologna with lots of mayonnaise put between two slices of bread. OOOHH YUUUMMMY.
When I met my husband I found out he also like fried bologna sandwiches. Talk about keeping it in the family. My children grew up on fried bologna sandwiches. They made a great after school snack..
Happy posting..

Yum! Fried egg and fried bologna. I have never had that combo, but it does sound good. I will have to try that next time I am craving a fried egg sandwich. My kids also love fried bologna sandwiches. My stepson at first wasn't too sure about it. He thought it was gross. But I told him like my grandfather told me "Don't knock it until you have tried it". So just to prove he wouldn't like it, he tried it. Well needless to say he fell in love with it.
