I find it to be so annoying when I am around people and they sit and type text messages into their cell phones. Ugh! Especially if I am trying to hold a conversation with them and they sit there and type in a respond or comment to some one via their cell phones. I see people at work doing it all the time.
My questions are for those of you that do this is what is purpose of it? Isn't it easier to just call the person and talk to them?
I feel it's a big waste of time to try and type a message into a keyboard that is barely there to begin with!
Does it cost extra money to text someone?
What could possibly be so important that can n9ot wait until one has a free moment to call instead of text?
Please do try to shed some light on this technology for me. Thanks!

Text messageing is a great way to get your point across. It is also a great way to be short and sweet about something to someone. Everyone these days is talking on a cell phone.I will admit it with no problem I much rather text someone then call someone.

Text messages are more important because when ever sender as well as reciever want to read it again for rechecking then it is possible.
It is said that what ever is written could be read again for varification!
Well talk is important but some time talking moments have laps and few things are just become part of that so you missed all such...
So still the text messages are the best for convinience too!

It depends to the situation. For me texting is important I use it in dealing w/ people I do some business if I will call all the time I will spend a lot of money so texting is very cheap and their is no problem in communicating at the moment all I can say is its important to me

here in my country, it's just normal for us to text than call. even in public transportation people tend to text a lot. but it's really cheaper here to text than to call. there is some unlimited text here for a day for only $0.50. it's really unlimited but only to those using the same cellphone carrier as the person textixt. calls are really expensive here. we could not afford it. more people here are in prepaid. only 5% of those using cellphone are in postpaid plan.

Personally I use texting only when someone has sent me a text message. It does get annoying even when I limit it to that though. Especially when driving, and I recieve a text. I agree it is much more productive to just call when there is something that needs to be said, yet sometimes it is a waste of money if all that has to be said is a quick sentence. Idk, what will they come out with next?

I use this alot, however NEVER while I am in a conversation with someone else. Here in sweden i belive that the textinghappens more than the calling. Sometimes I use it when I know that the person will not be able to pick up the phone, or when it is late/earlie and I dont know if the person is up. use ot to send some love to friends when I know that they do not wanna talk but still appreciate a text. it is also very cheap here to text - however calling is not more expensive - aboout the same i would guess!

I can't believe people at work do it all of the time, but come to think of it...I've done it a time or two...answered a text message while at work. Hmmm....anyway...text messages cost less than a cell phone call.

Hi, how are you? I do not text all day long like the young people do but there are advantages to texting, being in a meeting, church, noisy bus or train when you can't take a call or even hear the caller, then it's great to send a message. If your in a confined area and don't want others to hear your conversation then it's ideal to type out a message. You are right though, no one should text or talk while they are in the middle of a conversation with you, they should excuse themselves if it urgent.

Hi sjohnson!!!
I agree with you in some o your statements.
I too think it is annoying when people one is talking to is sitting and text messages. I think it is very rude. I us text messageing myself, becuase in my country it is cheaper to message than it is to call. Secondly i use it becuse if it is importent then the person i message can keep the message and maybe not forget what was importent.
But i make sure that i do not annoy anybody when i message.

Text message cost less than calling. And of course if it's important texting is a right choice. But sometimes when talking to people and he txt it's really annoying but you can tell to your friend to stop it for a while while you where talking he can text after you finished talking with him. But if it's very important try to understand your friend.happy mylotting my friend.

I also hate it when people I talk to would non-stoply texting infront of me. It seems that they have their world revolving in the virtual world. :)

hello there sjohnson628, well I don't think that text messaging is really that annoying. In fact i usually use text messaging instead of calling that person straight from his/her cellphone. In my country I could say that most people prefer text messaging rather than to call that person since text messaging is cheaper than call. But if you really need to say something important to someone I think it would be best to just call him so that he could answer you back right away. And in this way you could save time from texting.

Its just another way to alienate yourself. People dont like dealing with people its too much work. Its easier to just send a message. Me I dont text message heck I just got a cell phone last week. Im living in the old ages I guess.

I feel the very same!!
Its more common among youngsters..!!
They usually like texting and all that messaging!!
Well I must admit it does cost low. There are many schemes saying 1000 messages free in some connections, so for some people its almost free messaging to people..!!
So these people kind of spend all of there chatting thing through SMS only..!!
And that irritates me a lot!!!
I have one friend who is always busy in text messaging in college, in home and every where!!
Man can she be parted with her mobile for couple of seconds..???
Or else if not messaging she gives all of us other girls "miss calls" I mean what a freak on earth she is.
She really get on my nerves!!
A not basically her every other person whoes life is drowned in this text messaging thing irritates me !!
Get out of it and see the world. C'mon

hi! I'm from the Philippines and as one of the responses here said, in the Philippines, we do a lot of texting than calling. We were even tagged as the "texting" capital of the world! But there's is nothing to be annoyed about. It's more on understand Philippines and it's current situation. You see, we text not because we just want to but it's because it's much much cheaper to text than to call. We may want to call but our "load" (pre-paid account) would not be enough to call or we just want to text so we can save more. So you see, it's really economic reasons. That's texting in Philippine setting. In fact telecoms have this services which will make texters happy! We have unlitext for Globe subcribers. You send 20 pesos and you text the whole day(24 hours) unlimited!
Text here cost 1.00 or for some 0.75 cents if you are in the same network. and call would mean 6.00 to 10.00. so, we'd rather text!
Aside from that, we only call if it's really urgent. and if we on an UNLI mode, we can text even anything to anyone we want to =)
See, you I hope you understand.
But of course, it would be different in your country. And maybe in your country, you have all the reasons to get annoyed if someone makes text message.
Thank you for reading.

Hi Sjohnson.
Well, I don't really text that much but my friends do. Similarly, when I speak with them, their are looking at me but at the same time they fingers are pressing on the keypad. Haha.
Actually, it's just a type of preferred communication "style" by them. Such as, sometimes bf wants to hear from gf. However, phone bills might be a problem, so text message will able to make them keep in touch and might not be costly.
Anyway, they preferred text just like we prefer phone call. That's it. Haha.
