What is Peace?

Peace is more than the absence of war, it must be a way of life of all the people of the world! Peace is something we could not give away, it is something we got to build for ourselves. Peace demands actions, responsibility and facing the consequences of those actions. Sad to say, humanity failed to draw the lessons of the past. And it is said, that once lessons of history are not learned, then it is bound to happen again and again. Indeed, humanity failed to grasp the vitality of building genuine peace for all people. Or should we say, we got no ability within ourselves to find this ever elusive peace. Maybe, we need a much higher authority on finding this peace. Whoever could this higher authority, that is still also subject to debate. There has been no formula for peace that we could always just follow. Maybe we should begin by finding peace within ourselves, our own families and our own communities.

Most people are having the desire for inner peace. Can we have these without dealing with stress? The problem comes along with stress. We can attain this if we knew how to handle the difficulties. It seems too difficult to do it, but we just need to take one step forward.

Perhaps nobody knows what is peace! Just one war to another to look for peace in the world. That's it... Ultimately, nothing brings peace. Because the path is wrong...

Of course the sole fact there is no war doesn't mean we are in peace. I'm from the country that was in so called peace for almost 50 years after world war II thanks to "our brothers from red army" of USRR. And I know people were scared of saying what they truely thinked. They didn't feel safe walking through the streets nor they hadn't have any security. And that is not what I call peace.

Without even raising subject of military actions and armed forces, how peaceful is the world that we see each day? In the hustle and bustle of daily life, does the pressure of getting things done in a certain time frame make us become impatient and short tempered? The whole concept of road rage - where does that come from ? In Families, that are being torn apart by conflict - children choosing to leave home - what is that all about? I like to reflect on the words of the Dalai Lama, a wise and compelling spokesperson for the cause of peace, and truly a citizen of the world. He speaks of the need for compassion - "We can never obtain peace in the world if we neglect the inner world and don't make peace with ourselves." We just don't get it - do we?

Peace must start within. Once you find your higher power (mine is the Lord) you can lay your problems at his feet and know that no matter what happens, He will give you the peace of knowing that the world cannot break you. The world no longer has a hold on you and is insignificant in the future of your inner joy.

I agree. Peace is something more than tranquility. It's a state of living in a mutual co-existence with your fellows and your environment. Peace has a price tag, it is something that is worked out. It is not acheived by apathy to other's needs, nor is gained by one's silence over an injustice. Peace is when there is justice and restoration. Peace is achieved when there are ways for us to meet halfway.
