Is It Really So Weird? Sparing/Liking An Insect...

This discussion occurred to me after helping a moth out. It was stuck somewhere in my office around the cords, poor thing. Even though it was scared I was able to successfully get it out of the cords and outside into the night.
Now here's my question. Is that really so weird? I do have a sort of sweet spot for some insects and some arachnids. I usually find myself sparing them, leaving them be, watching them and on occasion talking to them.

Well, talking to spiders does have an advantage. They won't twist or distort what you say.

Here's one for you. One of my coworkers, who happens to be an orthotist, was on his knees fitting a client with a brace. A huge spider was crawling on the floor. He opened the door and used his hand to divert the spider outside. He was talking to the spider as he moved it along. There was a person passing by the shop who stopped for a moment, shook his head and laughed before proceeding on his way.

you helped a moth?? ^__^;; i didn't imagine you'd be so helpful with insects! LOL
but i dont think its weird. every people has their own quirks. ^__^;; it just so happen that its insects with you. a not so ordinary animals to be fond of. ^__^;; me, i leave them be and spare their lives because im afraid of them. LOL but just recently i've some of them. ants. ^__^;;
talking with insects becomes weird because insects are not ordinary animals that people talk with. we are used with people talking with their dogs or cats and birds but not insects. because insects are not usually pets. and people talk with their pets. maybe you should add to the population of people who makes insects their pets. so in the future it wouldn't be so odd. ^__^;;

I'm not crazy about bugs, but I don't see the point in killing them if they're not hurting anything. I probably wouldn't have killed it either. I've learned to be more tolerant of certain insects since I'm a preschool teacher and I'm brought bugs to look at on a daily basis. :P

I don't think it's weird, programer. I think we're all here on earth for different reasons. Some feel the calling to help the poor, some feel the calling to help save the environment...some feel the calling to help insects. ;-D I think it's GREAT to have soft spots for some things in life! ;-D

It sort of depends on what the insect is. Spiders can be poisonous, and it's hard to tell which ones are or aren't, so if I see them, they generally bite the dust. Stinging insects like wasps have also gotten into my apartment. They too were doomed, since I want neither myself or my pets to be stung. Moths and crickets fair well with me. I try to spare their little lives, because I know they bear me no ill will. And I believe the old Chinese saying that it's bad luck to kill a cricket.

No, this is not weird. My Father used to "save" the daddylongs spider that lived near the telephone in my child hopod home.
My late husband would rescue lizards & release them into a wildlife park.
We removed the dogs when four baby birds were trying to learn to fly.
I know these ae not insects, but its a similar "feeling".

There is nothing strange about it. God created everything on the earth and basically, all life is precious. I get a pang of guilt when I have to kill a spider, ant, etc. But I don't like being bit by them and it all comes down to survival of the fittest; it's them or me and I choose me.

I think its perfectly fine. I do it too. Except to cockroaches because they are yucky and move fast. Bleh. If its an ant I will step around it. It its a bug in my house I will either leave it alone or take it outside if I have time. When I used to help my boyfriend walk his dog I would pick up all the snails off the sidewalk and put them on the grass so they wouldnt be stepped on.
