How many of you could go on without your televison

Are you addicted to tv? - Is tv becoming an addiction ..Are we becoming a society that prefers to sit in front of tv rather then have friends..

With a tv ..we have a remote and can turn off what we don't like..

I think that most people have a tv..how long could you go with out it. Do you think it's a necessity?I got rid of my tv and find that I am doing more things then I use to. The decision to get rid of this is when I had a friend saying " I have to go ..I have to see my show" ..Almost every time we were in a discussion. I think if television become more important then relationships or talking with family or friends, or if it becomes a babysitter..it's time to go.

tv is something when you start then you will find it difficult to leave it.i stopped watching tv months ago,i still can get information from other channels, such as internet.it really has saved me a lot of time to do things that i'm interested in. sitcoms,shows...are killing our life!

i used to read every night, but now that i have a tv in my room, i turn it on and watch it every night. now i have favorite shows and i find it relaxes me like reading does. i believe we should all turn our tvs off for one week and find something else to do. i have a camp and there is no cable, and everyone is bugging me to get it, if i get it, then the kids will all be inside in front of the tv. like what is this world coming to???????

Fortunately I have realized many years ago, that television can take away too much time from our life if we let it do. I decided that I will not let TV direct any second of my life. The TV will never be more important than anything in my life. When I am sleepy I go to bed, even when I am in the middle of watching something in the TV. I never watch TV alone. So I watch it just because my Bf likes to watch it, and I like to be with him. I watch the news and weather forecast if the TV is on, but TV is not a program for me. And I keep myself to this decision.

The other big problem with the tv is, that it is far far away from the reality, and the people who watch it too many times loose their value judgment, because they can see only what tv shows to them.

I think i could live without it. I don't get to watch T.V. often not because i didn't have time but because i don't really enjoy watching. Many of my friends even used to teased me about it they often call me strange woman 'coz i'd rather sleep or tend my plants.

Well i am a bit strange..I don't really feel attracted to the normal things people feel inclined to want to have;) Tv ..just has become my latest toss away.. Anything that takes the place of something I should be doing needs to go.

I totally agree. I used to never watch TV, instead I was busy with things around the house, my birds, or writing. I did start watching a few TV shows just to spend some time with hubby. You do need a good balance. I have lots of things to keep me busy around the house and I could spend time watching a movie if I wanted to have entertainment. Then again, I can entertain myself online or with writing. I think TV can be addicting to adults and children and I hate to see it being used as a babysitter for young children. There is too much junk on TV these days!

Yeah! TV is truely a waste of time. If we want to do more with our lives then we should leave TV and do other important stuff. Otherwise, it's called TIME WASTING. To much of anything is harmful. Watch TV but not 24 hours.

u know,i have been thinking too...is tv good or bad?...i mean, now when i wanna be lazy,i turn the tv on and sit in my bed..if i didnt have a tv,maybe i would read a book,or call a friend..so it might be right to say that it gets in between us and our friends,or some other things we could do instead.. is it a necesity?..maybe if u think that it can also gather friends toghether,to watch a movie or something..(or their favourite tv show)..to watch the news,or some documentary . i usually turn the tv on,so the house is not so quiet, but i spend the most time at the pc..so if i had to choose,i would choose to have a computer, and not a tv.. not having any of them, would probably do us good also,we would walk more, spend more time out, read books..find hobbies... but the world evolved, and its hard to try to stay behind:)

It really has come between me and a good friend..It so irked me and really turned me off..that we can be chatting and the person says..Oh I gotta go ..see my show..as if that is more important..but people become programmed..at such and such a time they have to sit in front of the tv.. It's a terrible thing

I actually get more done in the house with the TV on. I can't stand the silence. I don't really watch TV that much. I glance up at it from time to time. I don't let it get in the way of doing something else. I use to watch soap operas but I gave it up for that reason. If you missed an episode of that you miss a lot so I couldn't stand being tied down to it. I like TV, expecially because I'm home alone a lot.

TV has to be used/viewed wisely. Too much is not good for you; and that is especially true of certain programmes. All that said, I have to admit with red face that I find it a source of entertainment, joy, peace, comfort; and doing without it for me would be very, very hard...perhaps I ought to and all; but I love my TV. That said, I am a selective viewer, and actually don't spend all that much time on a daily basis watching it. Even so, I admire those who do without, because so much TV today is not good for a person's soul.

LOL.. we know something is really not so good for us..but the thought of doing without it..cancels out all our negative feelings about it.. Tv will tell you ..that you need it;)

lol i have to admit i could not possibly live a day without my tv, cbeebies is my saviour im afriad. if i need to wash up or do housework i leave the tv on for my daughter (9months) else i would get nothing done. its not too much of an issue tho as i only let her have it for an hour in the mornings and i watch neighbours and eastenders in the evenings and its for nearly the rest of the day.

I use to have it on..for noise sake ..then I asked myself..what is this all coming to.. I can get news some other way..I would hope if there was some breaking news that someone would call and tell me;) Like if the sky was falling or something major like that.

I can go without my television for a while, like when we go on a camping trip, but not for that long. I have a dvd player and if I went without television, we would have to go out to the theater and watch the movies there, and with the cost of popcorn plus tacos and dips, plus the candies, it would be more expensive. I do regulate my TV watching. I do most in the evening, unless there is a good movie on =--either TCM, science fiction, action adventure, or woman in danger type plots.

I would die without my television. I don't sit down and watch it all day long, but I love my soaps and seeing as I spend most of the day in the flat by myself, it sort of keeps me company whilst I'm cleaning and whatever. I enjoy the background noise. I al so have a T.V in my bedroom and I pop a DVD on and it helps me fall asleep. My T.V must use one hell of a lot of electricity but I honestly could not live without it, I'd actually die of either boredom or lonliness!

I never watched much T.v and still don't. It doesn't run my life and it doesn't run anyone's life at my home. My mom used to watch all her favourite shows (but not to the extent of ignoring people who visited). My in-laws watch most shows on T.V and there have been times when they wouldn't talk to me when I was staying with them because they were watching their show. I would read in my room and they would watch tv. There is one show that is on once a week that I watch (I am a dancer and this is a dance show). But if I didn't have a tv...I'd just get used to not having a tv and not watching that one show. I never used the tv as a babysitter and all the shows my son was allowed to watch were monitored and so was the amount of time he spent in front of the tv...which was half an hour everyday.

We have no TV on the first year of our marriage, as per advise of our counselor..he said we should spend much of out time with each other so we did and I thin it's great, at home, we only read together or listen to music together..no TV to distract us from each other.. But of course we have TV noe, almost 5 months already and I admit, we do have conflicts about it sometimes, like how many hopurs should one spent in watching TV,or what shows to watch.. I know I'll be able to get by without a TV, after all we have internet and music players..but just the same,it's also fun to have TV at home..

I would rather have a TV in my home than without one. I'm not a TV addict though, and I only watch up to a few hours of television a day, especially news-related programmes. The TV area is the focal point of my home. Each night after dinner, the family will congregate around the TV to relax, talk and enjoy the shows together. To me, that's a good way to wind down for the day, and socialize as well. Imagine if we didn't have a TV at home, then after dinner, we will each do our own thing. I will turn on my PC and browse the internet, hear music or watch a DVD. Although I can entertain myself this way, I feel that's an anti-social activity because I just escape to my own private corner to relax.

i am confused on this although some time i am interested to watch eng movies and eng news as i love interviews programms. At the same time after my weekend over i came out with wastage of time on hindi movies and other programmes. So most of the time i think to get rid off my tv but till yet not successful. Dilmeet
