I wrote this when my lover and I were just meeting once a week for our dates. Now we are already married and i still continue to cook for him. I just want to share this story with you. :-)
*******
Yesterday, my boyfriend sent a text message asking if he could buy eggplants. I told him, "okay, I can cook them for you tomorrow." And he replied, "Yippee!"
He was trying to find out what I would say. I love cooking for him. He is such an appreciative audience. He watches me while I prepare in the kitchen and tries to lend a hand if necessary.
Tonight, I cooked at their house, not only for him but for his entire family. But it turned out, it was only his mom and dad who were eating for dinner. There were only two things in the menu: sauteed mushrooms and battered eggplants.
I chopped a whole head of garlic and two onions and sauteed them in olive oil, added the mushrooms, and seasoned them with a flavor mix, pepper, wine and
a little sugar. Oh yes, soy sauce...No salt...
Next, I sliced the eggplants thickly, dipped them in egg and coated them with seasoned flour. Then I fried them until golden brown. For the dip, I choped more garlic and mixed it in the mayonnaise, and seasoned the mixture with
salt, sugar, and pepper.
The maid the prepared some sliced pork thing with sesame seeds and sauce.
My boyfriend ate with gusto and his parents liked the food, too. His father said he liked the eggplants but that the mushroom was little salty for his taste. My bf just ate.
He said he was so full and happy. He thanked me and said "I love you" many times throughout the night, until we finally parted for the night.
It feels so good to be able to prepare meals for him. He loves my cooking and I love to cook for him and serve him. It's so good to have bonded with him over our home-cooked meal.

That was sweet. I have always hear that the way to a man's heart is through his stomach. The whole cook for your man and you will have his love thing. Personally, I think the quickest way to a man's heart is through his chest with a saw. (That was just a little humor)
I cooked for my husband too when we were dating. I even cooked when we first got married. But after a while he stopped saying thanks and started asking when I was going to cook something good. I stopped cooking. I still cook for hte holidays but I don't go out of my way to cook for just everyday cooking. The only meal I still cook sometimes is dinner. And then I only cook because my son is there.

"I actually get orders for certain things I make during the holidays. So I know I can cook."
oh that is so cool! earning from what you enjoy doing. you must be earning a lot during the holidays! :-)
that is right, motherhood can reduce your culinary adventures. maybe you can find do something special again during special ocasions? maybe during his birthday?:-)

Oh, I can cook. He just got tired of the foods that I was making. He wanted fancy stuff like I used to make BEFORE our son was born. I just don't have the time to devote 4 hours to making a fancy dinner. He got tired of the normal family meals that most families with kids eat. You know, meatloaf, mac & cheese, spaghetti & meatballs, chicken, things like that. He wanted stuff like rack of lamb, souffles, fancy food. I have a 5 year old child. I don't have the time to make food like that. He started complaining so I stopped cooking.
I actually get orders for certain things I make during the holidays. So I know I can cook. People don't pay my kind of prices for bad food. My cornbread dressing goes for $25 a pan. My pies go for $20-$30 each. And if you want one of my roasted turkeys for Thanksgiving, you are gonna pay $50 if you provide the turkey, $85 if I have to provide the turkey. People who buy from me, never complain or try to haggle the prices. That is proof enough to me that I know what I am doing in the kitchen.

i think we are similar... i also love to cook and i always cook for my hubby everyday... i feel good because my hubby also appreciate my cooking and he also helps me in washing the dishes after i finish cooking... he always tells everybody about how good my cooking is and it makes me feel even better... i sort of agree with you that it is one of the many ways to win a man's heart...

oh that is nice of your husband...we have a maid so we don't do the dishes. but sometimes, my husband does help me with the cooking, such as slicing ingredients, measuring them, etc. :-) it's nice when they help out with chores, right? especially when they are not asked. :-)

Cool story. It is good to hear that you love doing things for your man but I suspect it is becuz you love each other and he loves doing things for you too. I'll bet he'd love you whether you were a great cook or not. i do know what you mean by the "appreciation". I tend to put more effort into things when I know it is appreciated.

It depends on the guy. Sometimes you don't even have to cook to get him.
Fun story though. Seems like you were really happy with all of that.
Personally, for the old saying to work on me, she definitely has to be a better cook than me, or at least able to cook good things I've never even tried. It'll be tough to do, trust me; but at least I have much more criteria to choose a lady on than just this small aspect.

My husband is the same way, he is always very appreciative of me when I cook for him and he will offer help while Im doing so. I dont think there has been anytime that I was cooking for him that he didnt ask if there was something he could do to help.
He always gives me a kiss and tells me that what I made was delicious! Such a nice reward for doing something that you would be doing anyway! We have to eat. lol
Those eggplants sounded really good, I think Im going to have to try that. I really enjoy fried zuchini, and I enjoy eggplant lasagna so I think I will like this too. Thanks!
