I was just watching hgtv and they had the top decorating mistakes....the biggest was using fake flowers! I have fake flowers...or should say fake plants. I happen to like them. I do not have a green thumb...I have tried real plants but for some reason they die! Do you have fake flowers or plant you use for decorating?

Mom did. I don't however.
As long as the plant looks fine and doesn't get damaged I really don't see the problem with using a fake one. Obviously fake ones though, they might be easy to spot, but not a lot of people really mind it either way.

They make silk flowers so lifelike today that I use them. No watering, not mess and they always look good. I kill plants also and don't like the mess of the leaves dropping off when I forget to water them. HGTV have some pretty far out ways of decorating too...that just don't make a hit with me. They don't have to water YOUR flowers either. haha

I like fake flowers, also. I can't even grow ivy without killing it. I was a big fan of Home Interiors and that got me started on using silk flowers on the wall etc.

I don't have fake flowers or plants, but my mom has them at her house in a wreath and an over hang she bought. It seems to be the popular thing to condemn fake things and push 'organic' real plants and flowers. It's supposed to create 'harmony' and more peace. I just like real things because they are prettier. However, most people can't continually buy real plants and flowers. Some are allergic. So I think fake greenery can be really good. Now if someone did their entire house in it, I'd wonder, but otherwise, I think it looks fine. Sometimes I can't tell the difference. I don' think I could keep anything alive, lol.

LOL! I just asked in your other discussion what it was. Guess I should have kept reading.
I have fake flowers, too, in my home. I like the ability to have colors in a vase, but not spend a fortune every 3 days to have it! I also have a lot of dried flowers around. They collect dust, and will, eventually, get tossed and replaced. But for now, they are soo pretty, I don't ahve the heart.
My plants are real, although, they are suffering. I have to remember to water a little more than once a month! LOL!

Dear jillhill, As far as I know all over India, fake flowers are used in while decorating. Of couse when decoration is on deity in Temples they would use only real flowers. Real plants are kept outside the houses for decoration and they are being looked after well. As far as the decoration is concerned for various purposes they use faked flowers and plants.

I fake plants are something people can easily overdo. And its not having one fake plant that is a faux pas. People's homes can overflow with very artificial fake plants which can be dust catchers, or limit someone in their decorating choices as they feel so obligated to keep them on display. Another factor is that real plants provide so much for our home enviornment. They help with stagnant air and I would argue having live things around just makes you feel good.
I think fake plants are aprorpriate in moderation where no plant would grow. If you have a very dark room with no light, or up on a high plant shelf. But even if you don't have a green thumb, there are air plants that are easy keepers, spider plants and others that don't take a lot of know how to keep happy.
