Yes, I do defragmentation every once a month. I believe also that it makes some significant improvement with regards to the speed of the computer.
I also have some other techniques on how to speed up your computer faster. It is really faster like a brandnew computer.
However, to do this, you need to disable some of the services that are running in the background.
Have a nice day!

Thanks shiloh.^_^… Nope. I don't use tune-up utilities. I only made some tweak in the system configuration utility. I have a complete list of services that are very safe to disable. These services are the main reason why the computer get slowed when incorporated with antivirus and other applications.

If I have noticed that my PC becomes slower, I either use scan and check for antivirus or run defragmentation to reorganize noncontiguous files into contiguous files and optimize their placement on the hard drive.
Defragmenting your PC once in a while would result to better performance and reliability.

i use my antivirus scan twice a week but I have to let it work automatically during surfing to be able to check and monitor any threats.

my antivirus just launches whenever it feels it needs to. i use avg, not for any reason, but because my husband has installed it on my computer. hehe anyway, it updates everyday, everytime i boot up the first time for the day.

i do, but not regularly. when i analyze my computer and it says that the drive doesn't need defragmenting, i don't do it. although recently, i did that on my drive E, because that is where my files are located. i use the drive C as the one containing the programs, so they don't get used as much.
so do you think i still need to defrag even if the tool says i don't need to? what do you say? i think you are more of an expert on this area than i am. thanks shiloh! :-)

Yeah you are right..defragmentation benefits our system to some extent and we need to do that alteast once a month or if possible 2-3 times a month. No doubt it increases the boot time but also reduces the opening time of softwares installed in ur computer because the files meant for the application is now ... more easily found by the OS and hence the time reduces..

I defrag the Windows section of my computer every time I use it, as each time I use it a lot of stuff happens. The Linux section doesn't need defragging so therefore doesn't have the defrag option. I live in Linux, there are a few specialty options in Windows that I do need so I keep a Windows section in my Linux machine.
