Dot, dot, dot. Drat! myLot doesn't like those!

Sigh. I just typed a rather lengthy discussion and hit "start discussion". I used dot dot dot a few times. Apparently that is against myLot guidelines. I'm not in the mood to retype that discussion right now. It was a good one too! lol Do you have the guidelines memorized cold or do you just know the gist of them and hope for the best when you start your discussions?

Weird, I use them all the time and neveer had a problem. Must be a new thing. I'll have to give it a try to see if it works for me. I thought I knew the guidelines well enough but I guess it's a good idea to check them frequently...in case new ones get added.

Why...do people... ...use ellipses so much... ...it...makes people sound... ... ... ... ... ... ...like William Shatner... ... ... just...post...succinctly!*weird 'desperate' hand gestures* :D But in all seriousness I use ellipses for all sorts of reasons. Even some members particular discussions elicit a "!?" or "..." Yes they are that bad, weird, out there, what have you.

It happened to me a few minutes ago, too. At first I thought it was because part of my comment was PG-13, but you just reminded me how we can't use the ellipses. And I really like them, too dot dot dot to show a different kind of pause. After all -- as you know, Miami -- it gets boring -- really quickly -- to use the same way too often.

A Shatner solution? As in "Beam me up, Scotty, there's no intelligent life on this planet?" I adore Ol' Bill. He's so very campy and so very very very Canadian. He's my most favoritest Canuckistani. Seems...for right now anyway...that there's no ellipsis problem here. Or the Mad Deleter is asleep at the switch. Either way, I'll take it!

hope the best when started new discussion always be my wish in here. it would be nice if my discussion can get reply by others. not only concern about more cents that i would have by that but also i love to see how is the way another member to give their comment on it. i can see which member is seriously read my topic discussion and which is not. about dot, dot, dot that you talking about, thank you to remind me. coz mylot doesnt support any emoticon, sometimes i use dot dot dot to express my mood. so bad if those kind thing being against the rules of mylot

Well now for todays mylot class. The copy/paste feature can and should be used as far as starting a du=iscussion. I type mine then copy them before I git submit. In case it doesn't work ou=t etc I can paste it again the next time around. That's the main way I use the copy/paste function. cOPY IT, THEN MAKE ANY ADJUSTMENTS ETC BEFORE SUBMITTING EDITING IT THE RIGHT WAY. cOPY IT THEN IT'S SAVED TO PASTE IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM. Class is now dismissed. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~

What a bummer!! If thats the case I know a few myloters that would get everything deleted!! I see it to many times dot dot dot dot. Why are there discussions still up?? Not fair!!I would write to mylot and see what they have to say about it.

I can't find anything wrong with what you did, miamilady, but myLot is a mystery unto itself. If the discussion was that good, you should probably go ahead and resubmit it. Good luck!

I think its more of a clown trying to get things deleted. Again I ask, what does Mylot and the members want? Should quality discussions be deleted just because of a few ellipses? I hope not. Even then, usually the dryer and weaker posts or people using excessive punctuation don't get much credit anyways.

That was really a crazy reason to delete your disscussion. I know I haven's made payout in here since this past July. Of course I am in other sites also besides just mylot. Hopefully i will make it this month.

That sure makes no sense to me. I do that pretty often myself and I never knew it was against the guidelines. I know it says "excessive punctuation" but what do they consider excessive? That's a shame, because it simply shows a pause... To answer your question, I sure don't know the guidelines by memory, I just hope for the best. I got nailed early on when I was writing about a recipe for chicken and it said I chose not to view mature content...HUH? I had to use "white meat" then it was accepted and I later changed my preferences. Annie

lol I hate it when they remind me of my preferences! lol It's like having crow shoved down! hehe So...if I ever have to talk about a particular version of the big C...I have to type "br3ast cancer"! lol Sometimes I just leave a space in the middle of the "offending" word! It's very annoying to have to remember to do that! Thankfully I don't use it too often.

Yikes. Is this true? Cause I do the dot, dot dot thing all the time too, just to make a break in thought rather than just a plain period. If this is true, all my discussions will be deleted. Yikes!

I guess it's considered excessive punctuation, but apparently (by the looks of some of the responses here) what is considered excessive changes.

Hmmm, I am pretty sure that I have used it in responding to discussions here in MyLot before, and I didn't have any trouble. Maybe it is is a new guideline. Maybe if you type your discussions in word and save them, then when this happens, you don't have to retype them, just copy and paste it instead!

You are right. It was posted already which is according to mylot guidelines that excessive usage of punctuation mark will likely be deleted. Even when you type all capital letters in your comments or discussions will also likely be deleted. Here is the link for further details – Please try to look at number 2. http://www.mylot.com/w/discussions/457762.aspx However, in my own point of view, if ever the originator started with a descriptive and quality responses or discussions, although he or she uses excessive punctuation mark, I think this will be considerate and will not be deleted. Have a nice day!

Mylot doesn't like a whole bunch of things, some of which is selectively enforced. I use ellipses from time to time. I think if you use a bunch of them in succession like my semijoking responses to responses on this thread then it should be an issue. But if you make a good, great or excellent post or discussion then it shouldn't matter! I mean, what would you rather have? Some good discussions and responses expressing what the person feels despite punctuation. Or having a well thought out discussion or post deleted just cause "..." appears once or twice out of 1000 words!?

Do they really delete your posts if you have too many "dot dot dots"? I didn't even think about looking at the guidelines...and I do use those things a lot! Lol Guess I better go check to see if my discussions were deleted (dot dot dot deleted here! lol) although (and here too! lol)I wouldn't know where to start! Seems to be a little bit nitpicky, just my humble opinion (and here) some people just naturally use that. It might not be the best thing, but a habit is what it is, why should we be forced to change our bad habits?! lol I think that would actually deter great discussions! It's better to have great discussions than well-punctuated ones that are not so great!

miamilady it only takes a few minutes to read the mylot 'rules and learn to use english words that we all know' rather then text message stuff we older people do not understand. if we do not know what you said, how can we make intelligent responses to your discussions? the rules are there for a reason so read them and follow them.

Wow, that seems pretty ridiculous to me. Thanks for the tip. I can't beleive they made a big deal out of that. Maybe a lot of people were putting it too many times in one discussion? Who knows. Whats their issue with that!

Hmmm... I use dot dot dot all the time and have never had a problem with it before... Now watch, this one wont go through! I know I tried to post once about openning a "l i q u o r" store and it wouldn't take that word - no clue why!! I was able to isolate the word and found out that was the word that was killing my post. I have skimmed through the guidelines, but I don't know that they cover every little infraction.

I often use dot dot dot as a pause that is different to a comma. It's called punctuation. I know we're not allowed to use excessive upper case or punctuation but, hey, c'mon, there is a time and a place. I'm not shouting and I'm not replacing an expletive with symbols. Does that mean all of my responses are being deleted...cripes, I use dot dot dot a lot!. Lol. Did it again.

It is so frustrating to write a long discussion and then not see it posted. I don't have the guidelines memorized so make many mistakes when posting.

I see the dot dot dot used a lot in discussions so I really don't think that it is against the rules. I think that maybe there was another reason that your discussion was deleted. I hope that you will retype it sometime especially if it was a good one. I have only looked at the guidelines a couple of times and I hope that I don't do anything against them.

LOL! I think you were using (dot dot dot) as a substitute for comma, right? Something as in the below sentence: I think...you were using dots as a substitue for comma....right? You could rather make use of hyphens(-) instead of commas and dots. That looks better and less confusing. Just see the usage of hyphens i've made in the below sentence Even this discussion you've started - it is quite interesting - you've componsated for your loss - don't worry. Cheers!
