Apparently the mother lost custody of her child a few months ago because of her mental health. When she was given an unsupervised visit with the child, she drowned him. Why in the world was she given an unsupervised visit with the child? That is just crazy! Now the child is dead. This could have been avoided and is just plain nuts!

That is so horrible. Since the baby was taken away just a few months ago, you would think that they would have given her longer to get help and make sure she was on the right track. I feel so sorry for the family of the baby. I understand that we all can run into problems, but some need more help than others and need more supervision. It is sad that the baby had to pay the ultimate price. The mother is going to have to deal with this the rest of her life. My prayers are with all of them.

It's very sad to hear that. I am sure the mother did not know what she was doing and must be feeling very remorseful now. Whoever is holding the custody of her child should have been around during the mother's visit. Knowing the mother's mental condition, they should have taken the necessary precaution.
I've heard of an even more horrible case. A mother and her boyfriend (extra marital affair) killed her child (under 5 years old) because her child was making noise while she was with her boyfriend. The mother and the boyfriend burned the body after killing the little girl. This is pure absurdity and cruelty. How can a woman be so shameless and cruel at the same time?

I agree. She shouldn't been able to see the child alone! And she couldn't have seen the baby until she had and was taking medication for her mental illness.

Hi estherlou! I agree that could have been avoided. The mother has a mental illness and should never be left alone with the baby. That is very irresponsible! Things like this should be monitored properly and supervision is a must. Just my thoughts. Take care and have a nice day.

My pastor always says you can't ever judge..It really shakes you to your core when you read or hear of a mother doing such things..All you can do is place her into the Hands of God and pray for her.

In a case like this, I don't think the mother is to blame. She lost custody because of mental health issues which clearly states that she isn't in her right frame of mind. Any not in their right frame of mind should have custody of a child. Someone who is mentally handicap doesn't necessarly know right from wrong. In her eyes, what she did was right. Where in the eyes of some one not mentally handicap it was wrong. The person who authorized the unsupervised visitation is the one that should be held responsible. They knew her illness and knew she lost custody because of her illness. I don't think it is right to punish someone who doesn't know right from wrong. It is sad that this was let to happen. Truly sad.

I took pity for both the mother and the child. Maybe the mother have some bad past with her, bad experiences that trigger her to do it or maybe she forgot that she has the baby because of her too much depression. I don't know whom to blame. But I just pray for both of them. I hope the mother will be treated and the child will rest in peace.

That is really crazy! How could am other do that to her own child? What kind of mother is that and how come the meeting was not supervised especially when the mother has a history of mental illness. Some people should be charged for negligence here.

This is very sad news. Even the mother have mental problems, this should not be reason for not allowing her to see the child...=(

Absolutely idiotic. Seems the paperpushers didn't use much common sense! If she was considered unstable enough to take the child in the first place then why in the world was she given an unsupervised visit! *shakes head* I'll never understand the workings of our government agencies.

I want to know what possessed that social worker to give the mother an unsupervised visit with the child. That was very wrong and very irresponsible of the worker. It makes me wonder what people in those kinds of "power positions" have in the way of brains.

that is just awful i dont care what issues mentally the mother had that is crazy.. no mother in there right mind would drown there own baby. she was obvisluy sick in the head.. they should have never let her have an un suprvised visit with this child especailly if she had a bad mental state... sure she killed the baby but i blame social sertvices and the legal systems it was there job to make sure that baby was safe and they put the baby in her arms for no apparent reason this time.

This should have never have happened. What happened in only a few months to prove that she was mentally stable to have her child unsupervised is beyond me. It definetly was unavoidable situation that happened.

I don't know why she should do it but she shouldn't have had unsupervised visit with the child in the first place. She should go to jail to drowning her baby. It is not right.
