Vertigo? Are you afraid of Heights?

I have a bit of fear of heights, but it depends on the situation. If for example I am driving through a mountain road and right by the side of the car there are incredibly vertical slopes, I don't mind it really. But looking out of a window in a 10th floor is too much for me! i can do it, but i don't like it, i don't like vertical heights that much, my stomach becomes tense, and it's not too nice, to be honest. Are you afraid of the heights? Any tips to get over it? How do you manage with your fear if you have it?

Hi LightninStrike! OMG, I have that kind of fear too. I just am afraid of it and it scares me big time. I tried to overcome it by riding once in a Mine Train (roller coaster) in Hongkong, and goodness, I was sweating cold after and I can't feel my knees, then I tried other rides because I really want to face my fears but all was in vain because until now I can't seem to overcome it. That is why when I went to london once and I have wanted so much to ride the London Eye, i can't seem to bring myself to take the ride, all because I know that if i am suspended up in the sky for a long time, I will get dizzy and I won't be able to really enjoy the sight. Sorry can't give you tips. I tried to face my fear, tried to manage it but with heights I failed to do so. With my other fears, I managed but not with this one. LOL! Take care and have a nice day.

No, not really.. I am not at all afraid of heights.. I have jumped many times from the 3rd floor of my school building when I was in school.. Even when we were living on the 12th floor, I was not at all afraid...

I am a lot like you Lightnin. When I am driving and on top of a mountain and it is really steep, I really do not mind and quite comfortable, really. But when I am, let's say on the 10th floor and it is like a rooftop and just leaning on thin railings, and to top it all off, there is wind blowing against me I am like, whoa! I just feel like I am about to fall off. But other than that, I am capable of controlling this fear of heights.

I am definitely afraid of height and I do become dizzy when when I am in higher grounds. Its just something that happens to me that I just can't control. I even start to sweat in an escalator especially if the sides are made of glass.

I'm not afraid of heights. In fact, I have danced on the edge of a roof of a skyscraper. :P It's called stupidity. Really. I am a klutz, so I should be afraid of heights, I should know that any minute I could fall and die. But I'm just not scared of it. I actually answered this discussion because the word "vertigo" caught my eye. I have vertigo. And yet I'm still not scared of heights. Weird.

I'm a lot like you. Steep slopes alongside the road don't bother me much but being next to a high window or even just going up an elevator to a really high floor gets my stomach feeling tnse. Luckily this isn't something I encounter very often because of where I live.

I love to fly. The fear of flying I think is not from how high an airplane can go, but how it can stay in the air being so big. I remember once doing some roof cleaning for a family down the street from where I lived. The man that owned the house was an Eastern Airlines pilot at the time. He hated getting on his roof. I asked him about his fear and he said that it was not of heights that he feared, it was the fear of falling off the roof which was easier than a plane falling from the sky. At the same time, my church has a 40' Christmas tree in which the choir sings from. I remember my first time in the tree and I was beginning to wonder if I had a fear of heights. I did not. It was more claustrophobia than it was heights. I overcame this by not thinking about it. My suggestion for your fear of heights is to look straight ahead (eye level) and continue to look straight ahead until you are "stable" and have no problems looking around. Most people who have fear of heights have a tendency to look down first realizing that they are extremely high up. I wish you luck in overcoming your fear of heights. It appears that you have a sense of humor since you have an interesting picture so I will just break out in a tune of "Wild Blue Yonder" for you and you should feel mighty fine after that. Have a great weekend.

I hate heights. I can't even look up at something that is very high up without getting dizzy and feeling off balance. One time a few years ago I made the mistake of following my husband up a ladder and into the attic of the apartment we were renting, well once i was up there is took almost an hour for me to work up the courage to let him help me back down.

I am not really afraid of the heights as so much as afraid of falling. LOL What I mean is that I would not be scared on the roof but going from the ladder to the roof is the part that would scare me.

Yeah i have fear of the heights. specially when i am on soem kinda rides, or on big fairy. I am trying to pretend I am not scared. You know it is interesting feeling if you are scared, it's like you are loosing your balance. I am sending you picture where we went with my brother. And he was scared I mean really scared. He was so pale up and when we came down everybody was laughing at him. Probably never seen someone so scared.

I am totally afraid of heights! I won't even climb to the top of a tornado slide I am so scared of them. I don't like laders at all. They say the way to get over a fear of something is to just do it but I couldn't my husband always told me he was going to take me up in a bucket truck that you could see the whole city I told him he was crazy.
