Last year, I got sick and have been sick for over a year now. I tell you this so you will understand my comment to your question. We have become one of those homes that I have always hated. We still have our lights up from last Christmas. They still are not turned on but they are up.

Thats funny I saw some just before Halloween. I think they were just putting them up early but didn't intend to turn them on until later. They were on at the time and they were standing in the yard looking at them. I have been by there a couple of times and they were only on last week. So I guess people are starting the Christmas holidays a little earlier every year. Pretty soon the stores will have Christmas items out in August.

Christmas is getting out of hand with people putting up lights earlier and earlier. I know the stores do it, but they always get into Christmas before everyone else - it's expected. I think if we are putting up lights outside our house, the beginning of December is early enough.

We never really got into doing a lot of outdoor decorating. The small town we used to live in had a contest for decorating but we never bothered. I used to do a lot of decorating inside the house. Every room had some kind of decorations. But, sigh, this place is too small to do anything here.

We usually wait until the first week in December. If before that we have some real nice days, we do it earlier. I know one year we put them up the week of Thanksgiving, the weather was 60 degrees and sunny. It was alot better than freezing doing it.

I've always put them up the weekend after Thanksgiving when I put them up but I don't always and how many depends on my mood and the weather - really cold and wet I tend to not put up so many. I too noticed some people with them up before Thanksgiving this year.

Hi estherlou! We usually put up our Christmas lights on the first day of December and we do decorate our front garden with so many lights. But for this year, I think we will just be having to turn it on for an hour or two each night and just turn it on for a longer time on the 24th and 25th of December. We are trying to cut down on our electric consumption because it is rather getting so expensive or costly with electricity now. Take care and have a nice day. :)

I love christmas lights on peoples houses. We quite often will go for a ride at night just to see the lights. Our downtown is beautiful at this time of year. Last night we, my hubby and I, went for a ride downtown and it is better every year. We have lights on our house that we leave on all year long. We don't turn them on all year, but we just don't bother taking them down anymore. We start turning them on around the end of November which will be this week. We turn them on at night till after new years. It can cost a pretty penny on the electical bill but it's worth it.

LOL my mom puts up her Xmas decorations the day after Thanksgiving every year haha. Currently I live in a apartment building so I will not be hahing up outside lights as long as I live here. I do put up lights in the windows and a Xmas tree in the big window though. A couple years ago when I lived in a house my wife and I went crazy with decorations. We had the icecicle lights all around. Lights in the windows. We even put lights on all off our outside trees and had reigndeer sculptures in the lawn. That was somewhat one of my favorite holiday experiences.

I have seen some beautiful houses all full of lights before Thanksgiving..If i were to put up lights it would probably be after Thanksgiving, but the lighted houses that i saw took lots and lots of effort to put them up so maybe they want to enjoy them longer, i don't
know..I am not going to put up lights here at my house, because i would have to do it myself and take them down myself, my husband just likes to sit in his recliner and watch TV, it would be like pulling teeth to get him to hang lights...But i will put up my tree very soon.I should have already done that but i have been lazy..I have went all out in the past and hung lights and made it so pretty, but now i just put the tree up and wrap gifts.I do sit things around in the house for Christmas decor though..

When we do decide to put lights up outside, we do it in the early fall when it's still nice out but don't turn em on till after Thanksgiving. There were a few houses around us that had em on b4 Thanksgiving and thought it looked tacky considering.

I love it when people start putting christmas lights up. I for one dont care that they put it up to early. I dont know why but looking at all the christmas decerations makes me feel good inside for some reason. Im sure it makes a lot of people feel good to see them and knowing christmas is around the corner. But what I dont understand is why they have to take it down right when christmas ends. They put it up months before christmas but as soon as christmas ends all of it must come down. If it were up to me I would leave it all year around.

I have some that I leave up all year because they aren't noticeable, but we usually put them up the week after Thanksgiving. We line our front fence and rose arbor, and around our greenhouse-entry. I also have wrapped a BIG grapevine globe with white lights and it hangs in our outside entry. We use that all year... its great for summertime parties!

My family never puts lights up outside. It's too much work, and we don't want people to steal or damage them.
