Oh great! Now I have high blood pressure!

Here I am, getting close to the end of all the tests required for my gastric bypass surgery, and now all of a sudden, I have developed hypertension. Grrrr! Although maybe it might be a good thing, in a way. My doc says that this more than likely will get me in for my surgery sooner than expected. I was doing really well up until about a month or so ago. During the last five out of six doctors appointments, my pressure has been bordering on being on the high side...today was 150/90. The doctor put me on a low dosage blood pressure medication, and hopefully it will help. This actually scares me a little bit, since both of my parents had high blood pressure, and my mom died from heart problems, and my dad died from a sudden massive heart attack right after being given a "clean bill of health" from his doctor. Will you all please do me a big favor? Will you please pray, meditate, or however you do it, that this will get better and not worse? I would very much appreciate it. Lots of love and big hugs to everyone.

I will say my prayers for you. Think positive that it will come down and you will be able to have your surgery. Take it easy, maybe it might just be nerves getting to you wanting this surgery so bad and getting so close to it...plus with the loss of your poor kitty, you have had it ruff lately...it will come down!!When do you go back and get it checked again, so I know when to really pray that day. Hugs to my Kat!

Love your Cheshire!!! Will hold good thoughts for your blood pressure and surgery. One reason it may have spiked is worry over the upcoming surgery and the fact that you probably have not been getting much exercise recently. That should improve when your health improves right? Keep the faith take your meds!

Thanks for the compliment on my pink kitty. I'm kinda partial to him myself. LOL! Yeah, the worry is part of it I'm sure. And I haven't been able to exercise much because I'm always in so much pain. Hopefully it will all improve soon. Thanks so much hon.

Thank you so much Sara for that information. The med I'm on is an ACE inhibitor, and so far, no side effects. Keep your fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Wow! I'm so glad you are still with us hon. That is so scary. I've gotten so skeptical over that phrase "clean bill of health" anymore, that I just don't believe a word of it. And you're right...one never knows. Thanks so much hon. (((((BIG HUGS))))) to you too.

I'll end the night here then Katlady. Keep taking your multivitamin or required vitamins. Try to boost Vitamin C intake too that helps BP. B complex vitamins help with blood flow so there is something. You've got my thoughts and prayers.

I'm being a really good girl. I've cut out the salt, and I've cut way back on the caffeine, and it seems to be helping. But these meds are just wiping me out. I'm so sleepy all the time...and I take them at night too! Oh well. If it helps to lower the blood pressure, it's worth it. Thanks so much hon. Hugs to you too.

Sending good vibes your way! I think you are a bit stressed right now and part of the reason your blood pressure is up. Try to relax and take it easy. Keep us updated.

I'm wondering if all the stress you have been under with having to go thru all the tests b4 the surgery might be causing your high bp. I had high bp for almost a year but when hubby left us last year, it dropped like a bomb to normal. My dr. told me it was the stress that caused it. Mine topped at 200/105. When I say it dropped, it literally dropped 2 days after he left. I always tell ppl that when he left, it felt like the stress went with him. We have since reconciled and gone thru counsoling. We still have a ways to go but I've set some rules he has to live by so we both can live at peace and it's really working.

I am thinking the same thing...that it could be all the stress of going to the docs, losing my kitty, and bills. Hopefully it will go back down soon. I'm glad things have gotten better for you hon. Good for you. Big hugs to you my dear friend.

Thanks for the advice hon. Fortunately my doctor is keeping a close eye on the meds that I am taking, and he is making sure that what I am taking meshes together. That and I stick with the same pharmacy, so they know really well what I'm taking too. Thank you so much my friend. Hugs to you sweetie.

Oh--as a PS..are you taking any other meds?? Some medications can bring a rise in blood pressure. For awhile there I was taking low dosages of theophylline which is actually an asthma med...since I couldn't tolerate allergy/sinus meds well, my doc thought the theo. would at least keep the congestion out of my system. But as long as I took it, and like I said low dosages of it, my blood pressure went sky high. Now that I no longer take it, my pressure is normal--just a thought there

I'll concentrate on it for both of us... in the last six months mine has gone from the low 120's to the mid-150's... no meds yet, but I'm really watching the salt intake! Guess we'd both better be doing a better job of taking care of ourselves!!Hugs!

well bloodpressure is basically due to excess of sodium ions in the body whose number is controlled by a chemical complex called renin angiotensin aldosterone complex in the kidneys. So BP can be due to disfunction of this complex....First thing i would suggest is cut down on sodium ie use less r no salt in food and eat foods rich in potassium.this should help a lot

I thought about the lap band, but I guess I'm the opposite of a lot of people. I figure if the doctor is going to cut into me, I might as well go all the way. Plus I just don't feel to comfortable about the lap band. But that's just me. If you decide to go for it, you have my support and any help that I can give. Thanks hon.

Congradulations on your choice to have the weight loss surgery. I had mine in August of 2003. I was on 3 different blood pressure medications at the time. Within 2 weeks, no more high blood pressure. Just because it was high this time ,doesn't mean that it will be high forever. I will be praying for you and your journey.

Hi Katlady, Sorry to hear about your BP being on the rise. Hopefully it is only from the anticipation of having your surgery. You have been through some rough times lately, so that may be part of it too. Look on the bright side, after your surgery, so many things will get so much better for you. I will keep you in my prayers from now on. You will get better.. Happy posting..
