I like to receive gifts .because i think the gift cards are not good .if others can give me some gift i like very much ,i will thank him/her very much.i always think the gift cards and the money means you don't respect the people ,and bad to the friendship or relationship, but the gift itself are not .i will give my friends the gifts not the gift card and money.

I would prefer gift cards but of course the gift itself would also be highly appreciated. Because with gift cards, i'll be able to buy things of my personal preference. But to be honest, it doesn't really matter what item is given to me because it is actually the thought that matters most. Even a simple verbal greeting for the occasion can be enough for me so long as i know that the greeter means well.

I like both! lolz.. whatever it is, whether gift cards or gift itself.. as long as the giver gives it to me from his/her heart, i would appreciate and love to accept it! :-) So far, i haven't received any gift cards yet but this year's Christmas, if anyone of you is thinking about giving me gift cards, i would welcome it! lolz.

I like both equally. I like gifts because it is fun to be surprised. Also because often times someone will get me a gift which I would have never thought to buy myself, but that I like very much. I like gift cards because I can use them to go shopping which is something that I enjoy doing. I also like them because as you said, I can buy anything I choose with them.

I much prefer to receive gift cards, as you can use them to buy whatever you want/need and you have a while to spend them, so you can dig them out when you are feeling down in the dumps and in need of a treat. Also, you sometimes choose the shop and the whole shopping experience is in my opnion an additional gift in itself.

Of course, you should always be grateful for a gift - no matter what it is. If I get gift cards, I prefer cards for a restaurant that I like or a store I go to frequently. My favorite is when my family gets me a Starbucks card.

It all depends on what kind of gifts. I do not like receiving soap sets, because I am allergic to some, but I do like receiving something for the kitchen like a Cuisinart, or something to do with computers. But I can get them just as easily with a gift card. I got one from Walmart and I got a bottle of Extra Virgin Olive oil, a cellphone holder, two packages of spaghetti, and some diet bars. I also got two Future Shop gift cards, I still have one, but the first one I got a Spanish language program and some cdrs. All to very boring, and I needed them.

It woulnd matter to me if i received a gift card or a gift because I still will feel special because the person thought about me to give me either one.

I recently received a gift cheque as a gift from my boss' wife..I appreciate it too because I can buy what I want..but I guess I would prefer it if she has given me the gift itself.. :)

oh, I don't know. I wouldn't refuse either one probably. I do like receiving a gift where there is the anticipation of what is in the box, the joy and texture of unwrapping the present - and then the exhilaration (or act of exhilaration) upon seeing the gift. It represents the person who gave it and for that reason can be very special even if you would not choose that item for yourself.
the world has become to superficial, and you know it bugs me.
I guess I much prefer a gift to a gift card, though a gift card can be very practical.

I like both, but I prefer gift cards because I can pick the right size, color, etc.

I like to give and receive gift cards. It's easier to give someone who has everything or is picky about what they like a gift card so that they can go and get what they want. That way I don't have to struggle to think of the perfect gift.
When I get gift cards, I normally hold on to them until I really need something and then I go get it.

Well.. I can't say that I don't like the presents but I do love the cards. However, I don't really like cards that just say:
To Karen
Merry Christmas
Love so and so
They have to say something special. Otherwise, what's the point in writing them in the first place?

I never give out gift cards, I like to be more personal when giving gifts. I like to see people expersions and see how they react when I give them something they wanted or something I thought they would like and get excited over. I don't mind getting gift cards since I have special taste and that way I can get what I want instead of having ot pretend I like something so I don't hurt anyones feelings.

My fiancee always say that gift cards are like someone doesn't care for you. I don't think is true, but sometimes we just don't knwo what the person need or alredy have and it is more practical to give them gift card. I recieve one, for calling and I use it for my grandmother and for my friend. I neevr really got normal gift card for choosing what i want, but I would probably buy some good book or some clothes.

Ah well, I think it all depends on the situation. If I've been waiting for something for a long time and someone buys it for me, I'm incredibly happy to receive it.
But I do like gift cards as well since I can pick and choose whatever I want. The last gift card I got was for a book store, which I am quite grateful for. I'm quite picky with what I want to read, so if they had bought me a book I wasn't very interested in, I'd be a bit disappointed.

well, it all depends on two things. one - if the gift is good. if someone knows what i want and they get it for me it's great. two - if the gift card is to a good place, of course. haha. if i get a gift card i wouldn't want one to a place i don't really care for or anything - although you can now get gift cards to pretty much anywhere! but gifts are always really nice to get.
