Orbs

I'm posting a picture of a house we are considering purchasing. I sent a few pictures to my daughters and one wrote back saying the house was haunted, there is an orb in one of the pictures. The orb is in the picture I'm posting below (or what she believes is an orb). It's located above the dresser. You can see reflections from the window in the mirror but this orb is above the mirror.
Any thoughts? Do you think it is really an orb?

I dont believe in such things. i have seen myself my digital camera causing the most weird of results when taking pictures. Once i had taken the pic with friends and had it on pc at once, saw a huge thing like that above the door.It was funny in fact. Its like mirroring effect or something like that but definitely not sign of paranormal activity

I dont think its an orb. I would say its a piece of dirt on your camera. I have taken pictures like that before. Here is a picture of my sons on 4th of july. Notice the purple spot. I have no Idea what it is! It appeared in all the pics I took that night. But in diffrent spots. I loked outside and couldnt see any purple light coming from the neighbors. I really dont know what it is. Maybe its an orb or something imilar. What do you think?

Here is a picture with dirt on it. I took a picture of the moon and zoomed in. When I did I saw the piece of dirt. Atleast thats what I think it is.

Im sorry Kareng I dont see any orb in the picture I think its only a reflection from the mirror. It looks like a great house. But if your afraid there are ghosts in that house I wouldnt even considering buying it. I just came from a house that had ghosts and it wasnt fun. And people wont believe you. Good luck honey!

Since all the furniture was removed, I have no idea where any mirrors were or if they had any in that room. We have decided not to pursue this house though, because my hubby can't drive his work vehicle over the state line. Grrrr! I'm still in love with it!! Happy holidays!

If you turn up the brightness on your monitor, you can see that there is actually something piled up on top of the wardrobe (it looks like cloth or clothing of some kind) and the "orb" is something sitting in the pile. I'm thinking it is a belt buckle or some decorative item. I wouldn't call out the ghost hunters yet, based on this photo.
Looks like a nice house, BTW.

If you change the brightness of the picture (which I did in Irfanview quite easily), you can see that the bright circle above the mirror is something in the shadows on top of the dresser (wardrobe). Because it is small and high up, you may well not have noticed it as you took the photo. I am almost certain that it is a small clock. The picture is small and enlarging it does not really bring up details that are too small to show but I fancy that I can see a dark dot in the middle where the hands would be and a faint gold bezel.
Orbs in photos are most often internal reflections from the lens, which is generally made of 3 or more separate lenses. Light from bright objects in the picture can be reflected more than once and the resulting reflection shows up as a circle on the photo. If you study these closely you find that they are often on a line from the centre point of the photo to the bright spot (because the lens is circular and symmetrical).
Here is a good article which talks about orbs from a ghost hunter's point of view:

I'm not an expert by any means about this stuff but I do watch a lot of shows about these things. To me it looks like a reflection or like a speck of something, but it doesn't look like the orbs that I have seen in pictures before so I don't think it is one of those. Nice looking house though.

Hi kareng,
Are you reconsidering purchasing the home, because of all of this? The 'ringing bell' mentioned in your previous discussion could be many things, and could have a perfectly natural cause. Did you ask your real estate agent about the house's history? It sounds like an amazing place, with mention of the Civil War, possible Underground Railway connections etc.
The house I grew up in was 'unusual' to say the least, but I won't go into that here. I believe there are certain things in life that just can't be explained. Take care.

I have to agree with some of the other posters here that it may be some kind of reflection of something that may have been on top of the dresser. But I did read your other discussion about the bell type sounds, and that the home may be indeed haunted. Heck, I think I would like to be in a home that was haunted, as that would sure give the place "character" Since the home was built during the Civil War days, who knows...maybe it's the spirit (s) of a soldier?? And gee, the idea that it has a hidden passageway..perfect!
Have you gotten the home yet??

Love the photo and the painting on the wall. I hope you get the house. I did see the orb but I do not know what the orb is.
Good luck with the move or not move. I hope you do not get your heat broken if the deal does not go through.

Yep, I am not getting my hopes up too high. The house is in neighboring state but only hour drive to work for both of us but he will be getting a state vehicle and won't be able to drive it over the state line. This is a major factor along with repairs that would be needed.

Did you buy this house? When you send your email address to me, I'll give you my husband's email - he used to like to investigate this kind of thing. If you want you can write to him, explaining how you know me and ask him to look at the pictures and give his opinion.

It could be an orb or dust. Orbs don't always mean ghost either. They are just energy balls that are often found where ghosts are. If you have a religion you could always bless or cleanse or bless the house, or have someone else do it. The way you feel when you walk into a house is also something to consider. Do you feel hesitant to go into a room or do you feel at home. Your instincts are one of besst determining factors.

Yes, it's an 'orb', whether or not that actually means something is another story. I do believe in ghosts and spirits and everything but the whole orbs in pictures thing never really set right with me. All kinds of things can cause those shapes in photos so I prefer actual shodows or shapes to orbs and mist...although even shadows are tricky. I still think your house is haunted based on the other evidence, I'm just not sure if an orb really means much.
Beautiful room by the way!
