I am 27 years old now.since junior high school, I have been keeping a diary.I like to express myself in this way. I keep doing this for I can't find other better ways to express myself. but now I found many of my colleagues and friends think keeping a diary is something young girls do.in their opinion,a lady like my age should get marriaged and give birth a baby and play cards with them after work instead of keeping a diary in my own apartment alone.I know maybe my character looks weired or unconcerned. But I feel comfortable in that way. there is anyone who have the same habit with me? would like to hear your opinion ^-^

Their is nothing wrong with keeping a diary. I am 26 years old and have been writing in diaries since i was 15 years old and I have never stopped. My life has been a bit of a soap opera so I figure it will be a good read for my children someday. lol Really it gives me a chance to express myself and write about my life. Now in a few days I am going to be giving birth to my first child so I intend to fill my new diary with my adventures as a single mother. I intend to keep diaries until I am old and gray and can no longer write.

It isn't weird at all. Sometimes writing what you feel eases you thoughts. Specially when you are angry and you can let it out. Or your sad and you don't what to do. It is also nice to have a piece of memory lane with you. You can read through the things you've done before. We have a diary in high school. And if I read through I sometimes laugh at the things I did before. I have known a married friend who keeps diary up to now. If it makes you happy keep doing it.

As long as you enjoy it than it's not weird. Even i have a diary though now I use it to write poems and stories (I'm working on one but I think that this story is too "fluffy" meaning too much fantasy and little reality, I have to find a balance there). Anyway if you enjoy expressing yourself in your diary than don't stop, as long as you like it it's good, even somehow it's pleasant you free yourself from everything without even exposing yourself. And in time your diary will become something holly because your children's children will learn about their grandmother or great grandmother. A book about you, making you immortal. This is how i see a diary.

I dont think its weird at all. I think its a great way to express yourself. I dont keep a journal. But i have a blog online. I try to talk to others when i have something on my mind. But when i cant i use my blog to vent. Its much better then losing your cool with someone. If you dont want to get married then thats up to you. You shouldnt let anyone force you into something you dont want to do.

Theres many different places you can use online. Theres live journal, xagna, etc. Many personal sites have blogs also. I have a myspace account and i use the blog on there. If its something private i dont want anyone else to know then i just do the entry as private. Its that simple. Good luck.

Nope I don't think its weird. Plus its your life. And I do see why people keep journals and diaries. It really does help to get thoughts down and days down for review. Especially because memory is taxed enough as is.

I din't write a blog. It's also strange that I can't express myself in front of the computer. and I keep a diary just for myself instead of sharing my feelings or opinions. I still prefer to keep a diary before sleeping under a lamp during the quiet night.anyway, thanks for your suggustion and approvement^-^

Well, if it were me, I would let them know that you find nothing wrong with it, and personally, I know myself I write a lot of things down in notebooks all of the time. Sometimes, they become things that I choose to discuss here, and other times just things of interest I hope I will look back on and reflect on later in life. Since I am wanting to be a Writer, and a published one at that in time, I personally see nothing wrong with anyone who chooses to want to Write things down. Sometimes looking back later in life, these can be some of our greatest strengths.

Absolutely not. Some famous authors kept diaries well into their adulthoods. And, they say writing is one of the best ways of expressing yourself and a good form of therapy. Your colleagues seem to have the opinion that anything they don't personally do is weird. Which is pretty conceited, when you think about it.

when I was a child, I always had a kind of daydream that I would be a real and great writer.but now I just keep this habit. I think it's good,I feel comfortble in this way.I guess I don't want to write for money anyway.I just want to write for pleasure.thank you!writing is a good therapy for me.

I've kept a diary for many years now. I use it not only to record day to day events but to act as a memory aid as well, noting down things that I need to do and so on as well as noting down what post or important emails I've recieved or sent, again as a memory aid - there's no chance that I'll be able to remember exactly when I sent a particualar letter months later for example so I have the diary to refer to if i need to know that.

I did have a lot of letters 15 or 20 years ago but that was in the days before e-mail. I was not only corresponding with my relatives, but I had several penfriends as well. and there was also the usual bills, paper bank statements and junk mail. Now I correspond mainly by e-mail, all of my banking is online and I've signed up for paperless billing so the amount of paper coming through the letterbox has greatly diminished.

weird? nah. i don't think so. it's entirely up to you if you want to keep a diary. you're never too old for one, and having a diary is just as same as having a blog, the only difference is that yours is like a "real" diary and not online ;) so don't worry about it and keep on writing! :D

I don't know anyone who thinks keeping a diary is weird or for young people. I'm older than you and I keep one off and on. I'm not consistent with it at all and sometimes I can go for years and not update anything. It's good to keep a record of your thoughts and what's going on in your life. When you're 80 years old you can look back on it and remember the person you once were. Keep it up and don't worry about what other people say. It's your life, do what you want and live how you want no one can live it for you.

I do not think that being weird is not good, also I do not thing that keeping a diary at the age of 27 is also not good. People who have diary I guess has better appreciation about life, because the diary in a way tells of where the person is right now and how has that person improved.
If you read your old diary, you would learn that either you have worsened or you became a better person. I found my 2003 diary and when I started reading it I have so many things to thank for about life. :)

I think it is perfectly fine to keep a diary or journal, no matter what age. Don't let people tell you what you 'should' do. You should do what works for you and what makes you happy. Writing down your thoughts and feelings is a very effective way to sort through things and release things you don't feel comfortable telling to other people. I am 31, and I write in a journal, though not as regualarly as I would like to.
Besides that, you Can get married, have a baby And write in a journal. There is no reason to stop if it makes you happy.

I know people should not care others' opinion too much or do what others think you shoul do .sill, you know,it's not a easy thing to do.because, sometimes, families, friends, or someone you realy care, in this cases, we have to change ourselves.
by the way,I like your words:"you can get married, have baby AND write in a journal" I think I will do it

I dont think its weird at all. I know lots of adults who keep diary's. I personally have kept one on and off since i was a teenager, i just am not as dilagent as you I guess! It's good to keep your thoughts organized and your memories in a timeline with. besides, If you ever want to look back at your life and find out what you were doing, You can! Also, someday someone close to you may want to read them if you allow them to. It's perfectly normal thing to do, keep doing it :)

Hello again dear seared. Everyone has his own hobby ever developed since he was young. I think that you don't have to care too much about what others say about your having the hobby of keeping a diary every day since you feel happy doing so. There is nothing wrong about it so long as you are happy and it is a healthy habit.
Well, I used to keep diaries when I was young, but never since I got married, as I didn't have enough time for that because of my busy work and having my own family to take care of. Thanks for your discussion, dear seared.

Hi,there! I never think keeping a diary for a person would mean he/she is weird no matter how old this person is.I think writing a diary is a good way to express one's feeling.Sometimes we don't feel very well and maybe we also don't wanna talk with others about that, then we can easily write that down in our diary. In this way,one won't feel any pressure cause that's like you're talking to sb that you truly trust:) I also write diaries, but not every day, depends on my emotion. But I do agree with this way.So don't care too much about what other say about it.Just be yourself and do what you really like to do as long as it's not illegal.Best regards and have a nice day^_^

Well in that case I am extremely wierd because I have kept a diary since I was 10 years old and I am in my late thirties. I keep my personal feelings in my diary, the things I can tell no one else the feelings I dont necessarily want to share, just a way to get it off my chest.

well i dont think so that keeping a diary is weired or odd.however i am impressed and admire that since long time you are maintaining our passion and that should be acknowledged. and moreover i just want to add that every person is different and hence their passion and basic elements are different so you should do whatever you like to do as you like for yourself. Moreover when your thing is not hurting somebody then you should not drop what you like to do.
