Trying to stay positive while sick...

So today I made a post about positivity, got up to get ready for work... and fell down. I spent the next hour falling down and throwing up, and then went to bed instead of to work. Right now I'm sitting here with a fever, chills, nausea, vertigo, and a baby to watch... and still trying to be positive. :) So what do you do to keep yourself feeling positive while sick? How do you pamper yourself when no one else is going to pamper you?

I have what is referred to in the family as 'Mom's sick blanket' it's one I crochetted 30 some years ago and still have it. It doesn't match my decor so I keep it put up but when I'm sick I get it out or until the last couple years one of the kids would even get it for me. I curl up in bed or on sofa wrapped in my pink afghan and it always seems to comfort me just knowing it's wrapped around me.

I don't eat chicken soup, but right now I'm eating rice cereal, which is a very soothing thing for me. ;) Ah that's cool, that everyone has their own sick blanket. I should get a special one for me. My husband has one that his grandmother made that is his sick blanket. Thanks for the good wishes!

should have added, hope you are feeling better soon - chicken soup is the cure all in my house, you might try some of that :) Would offer you my blanket but even my kids don't get to use my sick blanket - they each have their own :)

It's difficult for me too, because I have chronic illnesses on top of this flu or whatever it is, and because I've had a really messed up life. But I can do it, because I'm determined to, and I'm just that stubborn. Though I suppose having a beautiful little year-and-a-half old son helps a lot too... little boy hugs are definitely a positive thing!

Rest, rest, rest, and more rest is the best thing to ride out the flu. Keeping hydrated is another key thing, but when you're that sick, keeping water down is a hard thing to do. Small sips occasionally of room temperature water helps alot, I've found. Hope you get feeling better soon!

Thanks, Sam. I'm trying to get rest, but it's a little hard with a little boy to chase. I'm drinking lots of water though!

You must be a really hard worker. I hardly ever miss work but i dont think i would even bother trying to go if i was that sick. When im sick i like to take a nice hot, relaxing bath. It always makes me feel better. Or i curl up with a good book. I hope you get to feeling better.

I am a hard worker, but I've also missed a LOT lately because of my vertigo, so I was pretty determined to miss another day. I didn't decide not to go until after the throwing up started, and even then I was like "Maybe if I sit for a bit I'll be able to get up and get ready". Thanks for your suggestions!

I feel for you lecanis, I never have anyone pamper me, while my husband gets a little sniffle, he has me waiting on him hand and foot.. I guess how I pamper myself when I am as sick as you is to just sleep as much as possible. I know that is hard when you have a little one. Is there anyone to watch your child, even for a couple of hours?

It's sad when you don't have anyone to pamper you, isn't it? Nah, I don't really have anyone to watch him. He's always with me or my husband. This morning when I got up and still couldn't go to work, I did get to nap for a bit while my husband watched my son, and this afternoon I napped a bit while Dusty napped... so I have gotten a bit of rest today at least. I'm definitely looking forward to bedtime tonight, though!

recently I have been working with walking pnumonia as a small business owner taking time off especially during the holidays is difficult but today I did indulge I stay in bed late, watched bad TV shows and went to work late. Also I let my employees do some things I normally do myself like deliveries.. It was great I also do alot of affimations and mantras.... It helps so much..... I also try to say as many gratitudes as possible.....I still struggle some times but it helps

Wow, I can't imagine working like that... but then again if I have such health problems already that I could easily be in the hospital from even a slight illness. Those sound like good ideas!

Awww, it sounds like you have the flu. Drink lots and lots so you don't get dehydrated. As for staying positive, try and get some rest, watch a lot of tv and just keep saying it won't last forever. I hope you feel better soon!

This is so sad ... But no matter what we can't pity ourselves because it is not the right attitude. I, sometimes feel alone even though surrounded by my family and I know that we are always alone in our fights. This is how I feel when I have a burden on my shoulders and I know perfectly well that I will have to deal with it by myself. Harsh reality and the possibility of getting stronger is the only reward in that case. Yes, be positive and think of this situation as a transition. You will be over soon. I wish you a lot of courage and I believe after the rainy days come the shiny ones. Look further... Best Regards Have a great day!!!

Haha, I've had an awful lot of rainy days in my past, and not enough shiny ones as of yet. But I do have a lovely child to be happy about, even if he is the reason I can't get rest right now! :P Thanks for your advice!

The most positive thing I can think of when I am sick is I know I will feel better soon. We both suffer from the vertigo, you know that will come and go but the fever and chills will leave and you will be well enough to go back to work. Another positive thing is your son will grow up and you will not have to watch him so much. That last one is positive and negative. I sure do miss my children. They are 29, and 26. I wish I had more time with them now.

*nods* Did you know that my vertigo hasn't completely gone away since June though? I've been having it on some level for months, it just gets better some days and worse others, but always there. Bleh. I worked today for a few hours, but I'm exhausted now. Still feverish on and off, so I probably shouldn't have worked, but my absenteeism is getting to "might lose my job" level, so I didn't really have a choice. Awww that is both positive and negative I guess. Already with how old my son is now I look at him and then look at his baby pictures and think how I used to hold him so easily and such. Hehe, your older kid is older than me. ;P

I've been sick for over a week now, my s/o started it! lol Anyway, the past two days I've run fever off and on, so I opted to stay home from work, I really don't want to get someone else sick. Since I really don't do sick well, in other words, it really bugs me to be sick, I usually try to sleep and get over it. However, I usually end up, doing laundry, dishes, etc, because they 'need' to be done, not that he wouldn't do them when he got home from work, but just because I can't stand just sitting or laying around. Of course, this usually doesn't help me get well any quicker lol. Thank goodness I rarely ever get sick, this is the first time in 3 years.

Aww sorry to hear that you're sick too! I have to do things here because my husband works nights and then comes home and sleeps, so he really isn't around to take care of things for me so I can rest. So it seems that no matter how sick I am, even if I stay home from work, I wind up at least taking care of my son. Lucky you not getting sick often though! It seems like I'm sick a lot unfortunately.

Sorry to hear that you're not feeling well, or wasn't hon. Are you better now? I alway's grab some pillow's off the bed, my favorite quilt and a crisp clean sheet and curl up on the couch and sleep or watch tv. I just feel more comfortable on the couch when I'm sick than in my own bed. I guess because when I was a kid that's where my Mom would have me so she could keep a better eye on me instead of running up and down 2 flight's of stairs. lol Bay Lay Gray xx

I'm still feverish off and on, and I hurt all over and am covered in bruises from falling. Whenever I get sick my vertigo gets worse too, so it's no fun. I did manage to work for five hours today, but now I'm pretty beat. Aww that's so cute, that you would feel more comfy on the couch because of your Mom like that. My favorite place to be when I was sick used to actually be my first love's house, and I would wear this red cloak of his that I loved, and curl up on pillows piled in the floor... tons of them. I don't really own enough pillows to make a proper nest these days... I'll have to get some more. :P

Sorry to hear you were sick yesterday lecanis. I'm so behind with the kids being home yesterday and hubby being home today. As a matter of fact, I'm getting ready to go Christmas shopping with him right now! Hey, are you feeling better today?

Good luck with your shopping! Nah, still feeling really bad. My hubby brought home some flu medicine for me, and I've been taking it, and trying to relax as much as possible, but I'm still trying to watch my son as well.

I just like making myself something good to drink, something that I know will help make me feel better, and I curl up with a blanket for as long as I possibly can, even if that means a few minutes. Then, I just relax, and do activities that I know won't make me feel worse.

Der lecanis, I am sugar patient. Everyday when I get up from bed I used to feel completely drowsy. I used to feel why should I get up from bed at all. I have a heart problem also. All the problems made me insane. I always used to feel as if I should sleep for ever an ever. I was suffering like this for a long time. Ultimately one day I decided why should I allow this sick feeling take over me all these years. Why I should not get up at 5 am every day and start the day. From the next day I got up at 5 am and went for a long walk. From that day I am feeling myself.

Wow it's great that you were able to overcome illness in this way! I've been trying for years to find some way to deal with my own, but nothing is really working for me. I have managed to stay alive far longer than the doctors ever guessed I would, but my quality of life still isn't what I would prefer. Still, I'm doing my best.

I just rest up and try to sleep it off most times. Other times I just stay comfortable with a nice drink (usually a hot tea). Doing either of those helps me stay positive while ill. Even when I had my major health problems years back, I just took it easy and lived life as I could. It maybe hard to describe, it might even be stupid, but thats how I lived it and its what I believe.

Sorry to hear about you getting sick....Definitely not a good feeling.... Well, I just try to think of nothing but rest...so that I can get well faster...To me, that is just motivational... It can be hard to feel positive as you feel lousy when you're sick....just think of all the good things in life and that will feel better
