Picture a mountain in front of you. You have traveled the continents for 18 years before finding this fabled mountain of gems... and these gems are all yours for the picking... you will be RICH! You have journeyed long and far and your destination is just a few steps away (relatively speaking). Will you walk or dash these last 100 miles? In the real world, this is like you nearing the completion of your goal. You have labored long and hard and your goal is just within grasp. Will you slacken a bit and take your own sweet time or quicken your pace and dash forward to grab the trophy? Or...? Do share your thoughts. =)

Nice metaphor, very nice.I would probably dash. After much time of trying, nearing my goal would be such fascinating feeling.I wouldnt be able to resist the urge to rush and grab it.No matter if I'm tired or not, i would quicken my pace to achieve what for long i considered difficult to achieve.

Exactly, the momentum will be gained automatically and increasingly as you are nearing the goal. The nearer you get, the harder is it to resist, I believe.

If I Still have 100 miles to go I would still goat the same pace no used to hurring and mess every thing up. Then when I got to that mountain would also take time to look and find just the right gem to get me to where I am going

I would be elated that I was in reach of my goal, so I would heartily would gear up for a fast paced dash to my mountain of gems that would be mine for the picking..they would be plenty of time to rest afterwards when I am spoiling myself in a luxurious hotel with all the extra perks.

I would like to think that I would take my time so that I may savour the spoils of my victory and soak up the magnitude of what I had finally achieved! But I also think that there would be the impatient side of me that would see the end in sight and wish to embrace it sooner rather than later! What my main cincern would be (the more I think on it); is - Would me reaching this "destination" be all I imagined it would be? Sometimes all is not what we expected it to be. I would also hope that the reaching of this "destination" would allow me to see yet another place over the horizon that I would strive to move further towards..... Life is an endless journey; my fear I guess is that I wake up one day and feel no further desire to continue to seek.

I am sure you have heard of the chinese saying 'Xian ku, hou tian' I hope you get what I am trying to say. My han yu pin yin can be quite bad at times =X It means literally, 'First bitter, After sweet'. I am an advocate of that saying. I would dash the last 100 miles. I would want to end the 'suffering' fast and get it over and done with. Then after that, I can take my own sweet time to enjoy and savour the sweetness of success. =D

Your hanyu pinyin this time is ok but the common is unnecessary. The four words come together. :P So you are quite a cool pooh after all! ^^

Actually I have done both. It depends on how I feel, how big and how important the goal is and long it took me to get there.

If it's a goal that is really really important to me and that I have worked really hard to get to, I dash for the finish, regardless how long it took me to get to that point. If the goal is something that I wanted to do, but not at the top of my list of priorities, I usually take my time finishing when the end is near cause I know I will finish, but doesn't matter to me if I take a little longer to do it.

I can't help but wonder if the law of sod will come into play here, knowing my luck or anyone else's they'll make the last mad dash and finally when they get there have a massive heart attack! Or keel over and the gems will be just a dream! No if I have waited 18 years then another x amount of time won't make any difference will it? The gems will still be there tomorrow, but I won't be if I kill myself getting there.

i guess we've all heard that you don't follow your dreams but you chase them. so to answer your question i would dash to the mountain but i would be careful to reach there in one piece because my health is more important than anything else.

A 100 mile dash would wear me totally out but i do know one thing,i would get there as fast as i could ...You had me in fantacy land there for a minute thinking about all those gems.Lol.I do not think i would slaken my pace though after waiting all that long to get to my goal.My mind would be going wild thinking of all the things i could do with all those riches.I have often thought of what i would do if i were rich,i think that we all have at one time or another in our lives.I am not the type to be a money hungry person ever,i always think of things that i could do for others as well as myself.I know that i would never but a mansion or a huge house upon a hill, thats not my style.I have a few people in my life that i see have needs and i would full fill those needs for them,as well as a few for myself. They say that money changes a person,it that is true then maybe what i have in my mind is not what i would do.I live on a modest salary and i have always been satisfied just paying my bills and having a little left over for a little intertainment.

I think the first inclination would be to run. Then on the other hand the prize is not going any where, if we have planned right and worked positively. So I would probably keep up the pace.It would be interesting if we were chasing a goal that could vanish at any moment as sometimes happens in life. We think we are ok and then something happens to change things. Maybe I should run?

How I wish it was a typo error. Why the last 100 miles and not 100 metres? Whichever, I would dash forward and grab it so that I can take a good long break :P It does not make sense to slacken the pace just when things are within reach. I just have to take extra care in reaching the last 10m...Who knows what obstacles can come up next? Maybe someone with super long body, hands and legs may bend forward and grab the trophy from behind.

Why use 6 letters when you can use 5? :P What do you mean about the typo error? Why do you want it to be a typo error? You are quite competitive too.

I've always been with the "DASH" moment but the end result is always disastrous. It was like, the saying"So near and yet so FAR".Don't know, always at the end stage Fate won't permit me.There's always a road block. Today, I made my walk with good and sure stride.Confident, Nice, and Easy.It made me realize that simple things are what the simple joys that made a person more happy and successful and good. Not missing something on it, but more nurturing and refreshing.Realizing infact that life in itself sweet when you don't miss the "TRAIN".That SUCCESS is bitter being Up there ALONE!That things are just but temporary and so make your walk in life a "JOURNEY", rather than a "RUSH"!!!

Hi lordwarwizard! Oh my, I wouldn't waste a single second..I will dash to the finish line, grab the trophy and bask in the glory of success. haha.. I think I am very impatient or just maybe, too excited to finally have it. haha..I think with all the effort, time and hard work even how tired or exhausted I am, I guess when you're almost there and you are seeing it happening right before your eyes, your strength will come back as if your spirit is renewed. I guess that is how I will feel and react if I will finally reach my goal. Take care and have a nice day!

I will dash forward to grab the trophy. In fact, I will push myself hard to conquer it as soon as possible. The world is full of competitors, people behind you will be keenly looking for half chances to grab and capitalize on to overtake you, so never give them a chance. You know this world famous tale of "Hare & Tortoise"...haha. Celebrations are always there for you, the whole lifetime is before you to celebrate once you have your gems in hand. Why lose your focus early and run through imaginary celebrations in mind, thereby creating chances for someone? Even though there is apparently nobody behind me, I will still run faster. "Anything that can happen, will happen" There can be someone in hide to obstruct you. So, I just can't wait to grab my gems(or reach my goal), once I clearly see where exactly it is.

I will walk that last 100 miles because I will want to savor the fact that I have climbed the hard climb and now I can see the end in reach. I will walk also because I want to make sure that everything is as it should be so when I reach the end there are no surprises saying that I skipped something that I should have done.

I don't need to picture a mountain in front of me as I have personally went through that experience while mapling, lol!!! I was all set to reach my goal. But before reaching my destination, I felt awful and restless. Many times, I like to give up. I can't be bothered to take a rest or drank a glass of water. In my mind, I kept telling myself that I can do it. That was how obsessed I was baby. But geez...the feeling!!! Its like winning a lottery when I turned 70.:P I needed to control myself from grinning too widely. =)

Thisis very difficult queston to answer.when you can see that your goal is just near you miht feel to just reach there but evntually it is better to go staedy & take our own time. What i might do in that place i can't answer now .

Well it depends if I can still run If I'm that tired. For me there is no matter if I walk or run sometimes if you run you can fall if your in a hurry. But if you walk smooth and easily you can reach the point with success and not tired. Here in my country there is a saying, It is better to get there even your slow than never.

I don't think I'll have enough strength to dash. I might die a few meters from my goal, and that would be a big loss, thinking how I've strived hard to get there, how long I've suffered, only to die at it's feet. ^_^
