Did your period change after giving birth?

After I had my first child, once my period started (baby was 9 months old, b/c I nursed) My period went back to normal. Every 28-30 days, heavy cramping, heavy bleeding, and it lasted about 4 days or so. After my second baby, My period began about 6 months in, and was sparadic, once it came twice in a month, then it didn't come for 6 weeks, and now, it's not predictable whatsoever, and I bleed lightly for one day, no bleeding for 1 or 2 days, then a heavy bleed day, then i'm done, no cramping, nothing.. now, I'm not complaining, certainly not, I love not having cramps, and not bleeding as much, but I am surprised. I thought it would be back to normal by now, my youngest is 15 months old, so i'm really surprised that it's still so inconsistent, and i'm hoping it will return to a predictable schedule but i'd like it to stay as easy as it is.. (: (I know, It would be nice if we could be in controll of these things) Did anyone else have similar expierences?

After my son was born my period were about the same as before, but with less cramping. About a year before my daughter was conceived I started having my period every 13-16 days. After she was born they have gone back to the same every 2 weeks or so.

Yep! I gave birth to 5 children and it was different after each one. After my laast one, my period was like you just described, but now for some reason, the last couple of months I haven't even had one. NO I'm not pregnant. I've had my tubes tied and my man has been taken care of too. We have 10 kids, we are done! My youngest is almost 3 and I'm still not back to normal. Being a woman really stinks sometimes. LOL ;-)

Well, at least i'm not the only one who has been affected so strangely. Yes, my initial thought when it began w/me was that I was preggers.. I took a test a couple months ago, and it has crossed my mind to take another.. but I don't have any symptoms.. I would be a little overwhelmed if I was preggers right now though, and I really don't think that's the case.. 10 children, wow.. you must be a very busy momma. Thanks for the response!

With my first son I didn't have my period again until he was 2 years old. With my second son it came back sooner, around 18 months later. And yes, this was because I nursed both my babies. My cycle varies anywhere from 25-33 days, and it lasts for 5 days. I've never missed a month (except when I was pregnant). Before I had kids I'd have terrible cramps a lot of the times I had my period. It would last for only a few hours, but sometimes it got pretty bad. Since having my kids the cramping has just about disappeared, though I've noticed that if I eat junk food prior to getting my period I suffer with cramps (in my stomach, legs, and in between) so I try my best to avoid any junk food a day or so before my time of the month arrives. I know this is not a fluke as I've been doing this for years now.

That's amazing that you didn't have a period for 2 years.. wow.. I wonder if my kids had continued to nurse, if my period would have been absent longer, it seems like as soon as they weaned themselves, my period began, although i haven't decided if the period was beginning then they weaned themselves or vice versa. Anyways. THanks for the response.

I use to have very light periods with no cramping at all and they only lasted for 3 days. Now after haveing my son (who is 10 months old now) I have these horrible cramps and they last around 5 days. I also have the problem with it being unregular.

birth control - picture of birth control pills
wow must be nice. i nursed my daughter and still got a period about 45 days after i had her. mine got worse after i had her. i am on birth control to control my period. it helps me be regular and helps it not to be so heavy. thats some thing you might be intrested in looking in to. i dont think it is normal for your period to be so speratic. good luck

I have tried some birth control, but it makes me so nauseous, and also, I forget to take it, and I really don't want to be pregnant again yet. (: I never was able to take it consistently, b/c I would forget what time to take it, or where I put it, as I can be a bit absent-minded at times (and it seems to have gotten much worse after the second kid was born) (:

I have my period every month without fail it lasts for about 14 days and I bleed very heavily and get really bad pains. I am on at the moment and right now I am up and down with my moods I keep arguing with my husband and have even fallen out with my mum I get such bad moods. It returned back to normal after I gave birth and then I had the implanon put in my arm I stopped them completely but, now they are back to normal.

I got pregnant at 18, so my periods had JUST started to stabilize and were pretty easy. I could tell you to the day when it was coming and how long it would last, no cramping usually, very little irritability, no queasiness. After I had my son, my period came in about a month and a half. It was heavy and irregular; accompanied by heavy bloating, cramping, mood swings, weight gain, odd cravings, etc. It was so bad I thought I was pregnant a few times. I've never had one sneak up on me and surprise me, but now it almost always does. It's gotten a little more regular, but not much, and the physical side effects are still there. I'm hoping the next kid will cancel all of that out. Blessed Be

YEah, I have noticed I get alot more bloated than I used to, but i don't have any cramps, which i'm very thankful for, b/c before, I was almost debilitated by them. I was always in so much pain i could barely walk.. but it is strange, now.. I always think that maybe i'm pregnant, b/c i'm having the wierdest periods.. Hopefully mine will even out or be more predictable before the next kiddo, b/c I still want to wait for another couple years.. (: Thanks for the comment
