It is not an income tax, but a tax on retail items. Some people want to trade the Fair Tax for the income tax. Here is a calculator to see if you would pay less income tax if you switched to Fair Tax. Check it out.

I do not think I had heard about this before, but I have heard strong arguments that lean this way. I think I would like it very much, because it would allow me to control my taxes by controlling my spending.I am certain, even without doing any calculations, that I would pay less that way. I am a great penny pincher and not a shop a holic.

In Canada, we not only pay income tax, but also tax on the items we buy called the provincial and federal tax. We are definitely getting screwed. They were talking abut ten percent tax, but here if you are married and declare separate incomes you pay less tax than if you are married and have one wage earner and the income is the same. You do get a lot of deductions that we do not. What we have up here is the Unfair-take-Canadians-for-a-ride-you-are- making- too- much -and- our- government- is- bloated-so-hand-it=-to=us- tax.

Yes we are taxed here in Texas on everything you buy that is not food.We are also taxed when we eat out or buy cokes ,anything that brings pleasure is taxed.. i believe our rate of tax is 8.5% at this time.If you go to Walmart and buy cloths they are taxed, anything that you by in the grocery isle is taxed that you can use like soap, toilet paper, paper towels everything.I don't know if trading the fair tax for the income tax is a good thing or not.We have both here..

I have been interested in a fair tax plan for quite some time. We would all pay equally this way. The rich person who buys a Rolls Royce and me who would have to buy a used car would be equal in tax. People and companies who have a lot of money would not be able to get loopholes to avoid things. Sure thousands of IRS employees would be out of a job as well as accountants. We would also pay more for goods and services but I think it would be an even playing field for everyone.

It has about $500 difference for me, but not sure it would be worth the change. They would just find something to add to get more money.
